I did a lot of research on the reasons for the Second World War. There are basically two angles to that one.
The first angle started with the victory of the allies In the First World War. During the Versailles negotiations there were two issues that caused endless problems in Europe.
The first one had to do with dismembership of existing states in Central Europe and the second one the funding by Western Capital of the Communist uprising in Russia in 1917. So lets start with the second one first:-
The Rusian Situation
The Partners of Russia in the War effort betrayed the Tzar and his family - they refused to even let them go to any English colony and any of France or the UK. The ruling family was killed in Ekaterinburg in 1918.
It left the Communist in total charge in Russia and some of the great American Corporations - who invested heavily in the Communist takeover was the real beneficiaries of the regime that was installed,
In the 1980's three fiercely anti-communist leaders took over the Governments in the USA (Reagen), the UK (Thatcher) and West Germany (Kohl), They stopped the flow of money through what they themselves called "The Gnomes of Zurich" to the USSR. The USSR at the times had a serious drain on their economy through their involvement in Afghanistan.
Within three years the Communist Regimes in eastern Europe started crumbling and they finally fell in 1992. The involvement of major Western Commercial institutions in getting raw mining material and other assets from the Communists during the period 1918 to 1985 thrived and was exposed during the 1980's.
The other industrial giants that thrived in that period was the Armaments Industry that needed Wars to flourish and the Cold War after 1945 suited them to the T.
When I visited Russia in 1993 - they were still discovering mass graves in the USSR where an estimated 52 million people were slaughtered by the Communist Regime under Lenin and Stalin lasting from 1918 to 1953.
The total result was basically to get a regime installed in Russia to benefit the major "western" financial and commercial interests.
The Creation of new Central European States
At Versailles the wonderful concept of freedom f Central European states were advertised, What was for real was the creation of a string of states in Central Europe and see what the impact was:-
* Poland - the part of Poland where the Poles were in the majority were fully justified - but there were used areas with minority Polish populations made part of the new Polish state and the German city of Danzig was supposedly a free port - but effectively run by Poland. Major parts of the totally German Silesia was incorporated into Poland. After World War two the whole of the German populations of Silesia and Danzig was expelled from what is today Poland and the Polish border was changed with the USSR given part of Poland and the residents and sent to what as Silesia, Be it as it may the huge German populations in part of the then Poland as partly the reason for the start of WW2
* There never was any justification for the creation of Czechoslovakia. The area was for many centuries Part of the Holy Roman Empire with in parts of the newly created countries having large German communities, Even Prague was centuries the capital city of the Holy Roman Empire, However, there were major Austrian and German populations included into the new state - eg Brunn a total German City became Bratislava. At the outbreak of World War 2 Germany had already incorporated the German populations into Germany proper, but after the Second World War the Germans were expelled from Czechoslovakia and the Communist Regime took over, Never really sustainable the union of the Czech and Slovakian areas fell apart in 1992.
* Romania was given the Hungarian area if Transylvania and is still a source of serious discontent,
* The main monstrosity created was Yugoslavia made up of totally different language and religious groups. No need to go further about that one at all, What happened since the fall of the Communist Regime was to be expected and wars erupted,
The Economic Factor
Aside from the incorporation of major parts of Germany into other fringe states - there was a determined effort on the part of the Allies to destroy the German economy. The industrial parts of Germany was occupied by French and English armies and the succeeding Weimar Republic was saddled with a massive war debt, As expected the Mark as a currency was destroyed - first by the period of limitless inflation and secondly by the Great Depression of 1929 to1933.
As to be expected the above encouraged major fringe political groups - the socialists were particularly strong with tw o wings which hated each other - namely the communists on the one side and the fascists (Nazi's) on the other side was fighting each other openly. In desperation the Germans elected Hindenberg as President and authorized him to re-install the Monarchy, The majority supported monarchists did not have the majority needed to govern on their own and was forced to choose between the Communists and the Nazi's to form a Government. The aristocracy and even the later King Edward VIII of the UK - remembering what happened in Ekaterinburg - picked the Nazi's to the disenchantment of the commercial interests of the UK, France and the USA.
Despite everything not favouring the Germans there was a massive economic recovery in Germany in the years following the Great Depression and the German Economy did what happened prior to World War 1 - it became a serious competitor for especially the UK and USA industries. I mentioned the vehicle industry - but it covered other industrial fields as well.
The Jewish Issue
This issue was after WW2 given as a major reason for WW2. What really happened was that the Jewish population in Germany benefitted massively from the hyper-inflation of the 1920's and in the 1930's was the mainstay of the Communist Party in Germany,
When the Communists became under pressure after 1933 the Jewish population was bound to suffer as well. However, initially the Governments of the later allies could not care a hell about the Jewish in Germany and it was only towards the end of WW2 the Allies pretended that it was a reason for WW2. Was it real reason - I doubt it very much. There never was any demands made to Germany about that issue before the War.
IN THE END THE FIRST AND SECOND WORLD WARS WERE ONLY FOUGHT FOR ECONOMIC REASONS NOTHING ELSE.
