Not sure if the news has even broken yet but reliable sources tell me that Nelson Mandela passed away about an hour ago.
RIP Madiba.

Must be true. At 10.45am here (11.45pm SA time) all radio stations had a breaking news alert that said Nelson Mandela has passed away.

I dont think they could say that if not 100% sure but after these match fixing allegations and their refs, you never know what to believe from these damn Kiwis ;-)

Can any honest (South African) people confirm for sure?

RIP Mr. Mandela. It's a sad day...

"No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”

May the great man rest in peace.   For  me he was the symbol of decency and humanity that set an example of real leadership to people throughout the world.

"In the end, Nelson Mandela showed us how to love rather than hate, not because he had never surrendered to rage or violence, but because he learnt that love would do a better job. Mandela played with the highest stakes. He put his family, his country, his time, his life on the line, and he won most of these contests. Stubborn til the end for all the right reasons, it felt like he very nearly outstared his maker.

"Today, finally, he blinked. And some of us cry, knowing our eyes were opened to so much because of him."

RIP Mr Mandela

This is a day for celebration, not sadness! 95 is a bloody good innings. Probably the greatest leader of the last 100 years, and we have the honor of claiming him as our own. NZ, you may have the world cup....for now, but Nelson Mandela will forever be ours!

Yes, he is a man whose life we should celebrate. An amazing man who was was born in the right time - his leadership was needed in so many ways.

One of the greatest africans is gone, he'll be in our memories with his fellow fighters for african people's freedom Steve Biko, Patrice Lumumba, Thomas Sankara,...

"I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die."

Adieu to the great man, despite the AB's  losing the 95 world cup, that image of Mandela and Pienaar with the RWC trophy will be forever a defining moment in rugby and the unification of a nation.

very sad news this, thoughts and prayers with madibas family.

its hard not to admire one of the greatest individuals to ever grace the world, a wonderful man who had such love for his country south africa and worked tirelessly to unite it after such dark and turbulent times.

while fighting oppression and then uniting south africa was madibas life long mission.

south africa and the enitre world have been very fortunate and privileged to have had u in this world.

RIP Nelson Mandela and on behalf of the uzumaki and uchiha clan, thank u.

RIP Mr Mandela.

Great to read these messages and for once we are all on the same page.

This man on his own saved RSA from civil war with his leadership.

In my humble opinion he is one of the greatest statesmen of all time.

Trust that the people who are in power now and in later years in RSA adhere to his principles of common respect for all.

I have my doubts though.

Hope time will prove me wrong.

I salute you Madiba.

RIP.
