I was thinking hard and long before writing this piece.I was not sure about how to word what my emotions were telling me.I am faced with my own work ethics:courage,respect,discipline,selflessness...the likes.Then looking at our national setup and reviewing the devastation caused by money and politics.One voice is not enough money and the other is not enough players of color.In the melee of words the Bokke have lost focus on the prize and the lack of pride in the jersey has become evident in the performances of a few players.So I want to word it simply and away from statistics.We know what stats mean.If your a numbers guy then you will poor yourself over it time and time again.That is not my aim.My aim is to create a clear cut set apart piece for what fundamentally is the root cause of the issues with the numbers that I feel count. At first glance past 2011 it was clear that a change in guard was immediately required.We were faced with issues at lock and flyhalf.Meaningly Steyn and both Botha and Matfield have served their time.Needless to say we all knew that Smit would not stay a day longer.So in came the new coach and out went Crazy Pete.We all had great expectations.I for one did not see him as a Blue Bulls only coach.Manny feared that only Bulls would be chosen.I think its pretty clear that this has not been the case.The team even now is pretty well balanced and if anything I think the selections are pretty even. Now we all question the performance of Steyn.He is not the most visionary play maker the likes of Carter or Cruden. But then again,have we eve had the likes of a Carter in the Bok team.Maybe Honiball or Naas but hell I cant see anyone else being better.Koën?Van Straaten?De Beer?Stransky?Pretorious?Vanderwesthuizen?They all seem like flops to me.But the past is the past and our focus needs to be here and now.Handré is good.Young and willing and gutsy.But it shows that he is out of his depth.Steyn in this case is the better option.But not a permanent solution.My point id we have never really had a brilliant flyhalf.The reason being because Bok rugby is forward rugby.But money is clouding judgement.The main role for me as I see the coach needs to have is the ability to instill confidence in his players.We lack a solid playmaker because HM has chopped and changed to heavily at this frontier.In his tenure we have had five flyhalfs.Lambi,Goosen,Steyn,Pollard,Boshoff.Stability will never thrive with this sort of mindset.I wonder,are we as SA'cans to stubborn or stupid to take a leaf from the All-Blacks book.How long has Carter been the man at helm?How lo g did Muliaina serve at fullback?Consistency is what is lacking. Then in our other plays.Joost was an international bench mark and in many ways he still is.He set the bar high and I dare say Du Preeze has come close to the enigmatic player that Joost was.It is evident that we are now in hot water a out this position.We lack a player with x-factor in this arena.Reinach is putting up his hand.And yes he is rough around the edges.Clearly not a finished product but let us look again at the inconsistency that has plagued the number nine shirt.We have had Hougaard,McCloud,Du Preeze,Pienaar and Reinach(yet to make his debut)Again it is coaching that will instill confidence in the players selected to perform.Example of this is the selection of Nic White for the Wallabies.Not the best at what he does.I think Phipps is better but McKenzie knows how to bring the best from a player that has the potential to b great.Inconsistency yet again. At 2&3 the only thing I can say is these boys are knackered.They need a break.End off.No player can consistently be on top form all the time.These brothers deserves a holiday by the beech.Also one and only one visible consistency by Meyer in the forwards.Nyakane,Struass and one of the Lions star forwards needs be lined up.I don't see why Steph du Toit can not have a go seeing as Pollard is given a chance at such an early age. Last of all.This breaks my spirit.In 2para there is an officer called Bob Mckye.Brave man.Very fit and some one that I would go to war with tomorrow.But Bob has a problem.He is turning 38 and his next promotion will give him a desk job.It hurts.You can see the fight in the man.He still runs his 1.5 at 8.40min.But its time...Same for Jean.Its time...time to call it a day.Jean needs to retire.End off.His lack of connection with the players in the team is causing disruption and he is well of pace.I don't care what you Stormers fans have to say.He is past it.But it brings me back to another door wound.JJ Engelbrecht.It was and.is bad coaching by Meyer not to perfect the player who n his skills and abilities(makes you wonder what happens at practices)In the army it is the duty of the officers to bring a platoon together to fight as one.To turn weaknesses in to strengths.This is a big failure by HM.HM failed JJ Engelbrecht.I believed JJ has it.I still do.But now we.sit with more wait for it.....inconsistency.We have had JPP,JJ,De Allende and Fourie.Cant build a winning combo like that.Ask Nonu and Smith. It hurts to admit to this one point:We wont win the next RWC or the RC or anything.I believed in HM.He had a track record.He took a rag tag Bulls team and made them a force to be reckoned with winning Supper rugby titles.I as a Sharks fan was proud to support a SA.team against the NZL counter parts in a final.But beating Argentina with two points has made me seriously question if Meyer is still the right man for the job.His inconsistency is destroying this team.He has a lot to prove now.Loosing to Australia will be a hard felt blow.Not to mention the cricket score that awaits us in NZL. I don't have a solid solution.For fuck sake I am a soldier lolololol but let me tell you all when the chios are down you dig in deep and search your soul.The Bokke needs a new captain desperately and JJ needs to be recalled together as a combo with DeAllende...who himself needs to prove that he belongs.In the front row we need to change 1;2&3.They are knackerd and we seemingly don't have a plan B.More bad inconsistent coaching by HM.To be fair Nyakane and Strauss will do just fine with Du Toit.Dont know how far Matfield is going to go...Its sad seeing him there but then gain,Loodt should have been selected a year ago.More bad inconsistent coaching by Meyer.

It is by no means my aim to just attack and pull everything apart, nor to start defending HM. I do think that we should not loose sight of a view things:

It was actually six. You have forgotten about the great Silky Hands Jantjies. More serious though, we have to bear in mind that HM's hand was more or less forced into that situation. Morne Steyn was played into the ground by both PDV and Frans Ludeke over a long period of time, when HM took over. Goosen was part of his plans from the outset but before HM could even think of using him, he was injured. The moment he was fit to play, he did play him. And Morne got his rest. Some wise-cracks believe that he was dropped. While waiting for Goosen, he was using Morne and Jantjies..... and then he (Goosen) got injured again. Lambie meanwhile had certain areas that HM wanted to improve on, hence HM keeping him in the squad and involved without him taking the field. HM threw the mantel over Lambie's shoulders at teh end of 2012. In 2013 Goosen was injured again and Lambie started going backwards again and Morne clearly had the upper hand, while Jantjies was having a nightmare season and Goosen remained injured.

NZ, and I mean the NZ rugby set-up and not only the ABs, have always managed their top players way better. Not in good old R of SA, mate. We play them into the ground ate every opportunity. Had Carter and Mills been SA players they would have been on teh rubbish dump long ago.

Exactly. See above. It is however not the national coach who should rest and manage those players. It is their unions/franchises. When it is time for national duty that should be at their peak and ready to give their all. The unions/franchises are effectively as much part of the Bok set-up and preparation as is the Bok coach and his side-kicks. That is what NZ has realised and that is what our clowns refuse to realise and understand. When Jake was the Bok coach he was forever crying about player management by the unions/franchises and now that the shoe is on the other foot he has been doing exactly the same. Jannie du P and Beast's form and conditioning has nothing to do with age and all to do with poor conditioning and poor player management.

Meyer, more than may other coaches believe in consistency and he has proven it in the past. Fact is that he has had his back to the wall virtually from day 1 with player getting injured and losing form. Ou Sad Sack Dave's big hero JJ is an example. He burst onto the scene in his first number of tests and then disappeared. There are a number of examples of that as well. Look what happened to the locks. I think that his ideal lock pairing at the start of his tenure was Bekker and Etzebeth. Look where that ended up through no fault of Meyer himself.

 Forever A, mostly agree with your problematic positions, but not with whom to replace them with.No clear winners there.
