If a Springbok team is selected with more than 30% black players- i do not think the team would be able to win a test against a top 6 rugby nation with the "current" talent pool that is available.
Many of our best players are coloured who like the white players are merit choices. This is obvious progression since the bad days of Apartheid.
I expect the government will soon drop the guise of using coloured players as part of quota selection because they are all merit players.(Habana, JP, Paulse and Chester Williams are some of our best players of the professional era to just name a few examples)
To be more- blunt- the politicians want a minimum of 30% black Africans in the team. They don't really same to care about anyone else. As a result, our team started with players who are not currently merit selections.
To win the game, South Africa finished with a team that would not meet the quota target. This is worrying- because without the change in the colour makeup of the team- the Boks would have been lost. Is the quota for match day squad- or for all duration of the game. If so- the Boks must have already breached the quota target to win yesterday against the Irish.
The ANC are closing to banning the Springbok team from hosting global tournaments- and perhaps even competing in them.
Many petitions to the IRB have been created by South Africans- where the contradiction of laws has been made. The IRB will have to respond to these- and it will be interesting to see if they put pressure on SA to field merit-based teams- given it is now 25 years on since Apartheid. If the IRB excluded the Boks in the past (and rightly so), what choice do they have now- if consistency is going to be applied? It is 25 years on now - many of the players were born after Apartheid- so surely by now it should be a fresh slate.
The merit selections are- BeastTrevor Nkalana--Kolisi is not good enough- and Mvovo was targeted by the Irish as the weak link. Mvovo missed routine high balls that put the Boks under massive pressure and Kolisi is a one man band with no effect at the breakdown
