I just watched the highlights the other day of the 97 lions tour to south africa. I can't believe that we actually lost that series. They had the entire springbok line up. The boks completely dominate the lions accept for 2 key mistakes. 1. Lack of goal kicker and 2. Matt Dawsons dummy pass.

Just looking at our pack and back, i just don't know how we lost that.

We had Os, Drostke, Venter, Teichman and in the backs we had players such as Joost, Hennie Le Roux, James Small, Andre Snyman, Andre Joubert, Henry Honiball.

So my question is, is it the coach or the players? I see the same pattern over the years, we have great players but a coach that doesn't know what to do with them or a coach with know players but some how get the best out of them.

Kingcorn I think we scored 9 tires to their 2. We couldnt land a goal kick in front of the polls. It was a bit like at Dunedin where we were much the superior side yet contrive to lose through attrocious goalkicking and butchering try opportunities.

It was however a very domiant Bok side. The score doesnt always tell the story.

Carel of course took the blame but its was unfortunate as the Boks in their last test thrashed the wallabies and that team under Mallet performed very well.
