‘After months without action due to a shoulder injury, Du Toit will start at blindside flanker against Tokyo Suntory Sungoliath at Ajinomoto Stadium on Sunday.

The fixture will act as Du Toit’s first match of competitive rugby since South Africa’s first victory in their series success over the British and Irish Lions in July.’

Says the reporter. He could have said ‘since the Lions’ series’ or more informatively ‘since the second Lions test’ , or even more informatively since the Lions test and given the date.

To make it even more misleading, the Boks were behind when Dud Toit left the field and looking like losing the test. What was this reporters intent in conflating Dud Toit with the Lions win? I think we all know the answer.

He does not live rent free  in anybody's head the way he does in yours since 2013.   9 years is a long time suffering from such an obsession.       .

My obsession, if it even exists, is with a sense of fair play. The honesty that can  admit Dud Toit was never missed during the Lions’ series.

That can admit we were losing while he was on the park and immediately turned things around when he left ….that the score was 3 to 6 to the Lions for quarter of the match he played.   .and 24 points to 3 for the Boks after he left.

So to bring that up as a Bok win and conflate it with Dud was intentional and dishonest,

You certainly mean not a sense of honesty - but a extreme sense of prejudice.

Actually he doesn’t. He can’t tackle in space, he is rarely used in lineouts because he’s unreliable, he’s a hard yards runner with no penetration or offload.

The three things he does are process tackles, process runs and pick and goes which he executes very well. The process runs and tackles can be done by any lock/flank hybrid.

Dud gets a lot of accolades because of his ‘big engine’ but all that means is he is assigned to first tackler/first runner so his name gets mentioned a lot. A vastly overrated player who has wonderful press as the article I cited exposes.

He was not missed in the Lions’ series, quite the opposite.
