A Cruel End

to a brave and inspiring Brumbies performance. This is quite possibly the most daunting challenge they will face all year and the manner in which they faced it was incredible. The team was virtually unbreakable on defence, very savvy. It took the Chiefs until the 57th minute to notch up their first linebreak. A lot of credit must go to Jake, but so to the players. You cannot coach character, and that they have in abundance. This was a landmark performance. They do look very vulnerable under the high ball, but no doubt it's another area of their game that will get better. They've had to resuffle their team for each game,the result of unfortunate injury set-backs, but still they get better and better.

Surprised Brumbies kept the score to within 7 points.

The Chiefs were let off the hook. The Brumbies blew three try scoring chances, even crossed the line in the first half. I even saw a maul from the half-way line drive the Chiefs into the own 22! They are a very good side, best defensive display I have seen in a good few years at Super level.

To put this into perspective; the Brumbies lost 16 players, and started their opening game of the season with six debutants. It's the least experienced Super rugby side I can recall. Not only that, but they have had to shuffle their line-up around every week to accomodate injuries. It's incredible how far they've come already. Utterly shambolic that SARU let Jake go so easily. Anyone who had any doubts about his coaching ability has been given a generous helping of egg.
