Personally I love Afrikaans and Malay cooking but my wife being Welsh/English has no clue. Worse she and my daughters are vegetarians now! Its really a dogs life  - without a bone!

Not trying to diss you, but bobotie without raisins?????????? I know that it is much the same as raisins, but you can replace the raisins with sultanas. That is the way I prefer it. Many people don't like the raisins because of the seeds in it, and sultanas are seedless, and they are a bit sweeter than normal raisins.

@Cloudy. Custard? It is not really custard, now is it? Custard has vanila in it. Check this recipe. That looks a lot like the one my wife makes. The one thing that does make a difference though is the chutney. If it is at all possible to get real Mrs Balls chutney, then that is what you should go for. Any Saffer would tell you the one thing that they miss is Mrs Balls chutney, and most expat shops (over here in, in the UK, any case) stock it. You can even buy it at some of the Supermarkets in the UK.

There is one very nice lady who posts there - Mata - the only one I think and it couldn't be her. This is a ss mole with gender problems - makes me think its taipansy.

Do you have an inferiority complex that as soon as someone makes a post you suddenly assume that they are moles...If this board allows you to behave in that way I can only assume that you are either an owner or a moderator, otherwise someone like you would have been removed long time ago with that behaviour.
