It almost brought a tear to my eye it was so old school. It was Fergie McCormick on Sydney Nomis. The Blitz Bokke scored from the move before the card….putting them ahead. The card should have sealed Oz’ fate with another try immediately after.

But the Blitz drop the kickoff with a minute remaining and Oz score….the winning drop misses by a foot.

Then the  match turns  on another bit of David’s magic as he beats his man on the outside and unselfishly gives the ball to a team mate to dot down.

Bronze for the Blitz.

Well done Blitzbokke on getting bronze but the congrats are for France on winning their first gold of the Olympics and particularly to Antoine Dupont who made the decision to put his 15 a side career on hold and switch to 7s to try and win a gold medal for France . . . and then scored two brilliant tries in the final to win it for France.

PS Congrats to Fiji as well on their silver medal. For a tiny nation like theirs to win any kind of Olympic medal at the expense of countries with populations of over a billion is quite phenomenal.
