A side of non squad members:
15. Andries Coetzee 14. Senatla 13. Vorster 12. Serfontein 11. v/Wyk 10. Jantjies 9. Hougaard 1. Kitshoff 2. Malcolm Marx 3. Marcel v/d Merwe 4. Willemse 5. Jacques du Plessis 6. Coetzee 7. CJ Stander 8. Arno Botha
16. Scara 17. Thomas du Toit 18. Koch 19. Ruan Botha 20. Jaco Kriel 21. Faf 22. Goosen 23. Odendaal
Useless Meyer's side:
15. Willie 14. JP 13. Jean 12. de Allende 11. Habana 10. Pollard 9. du Preez 1. Beast 2. Bismark 3. Jannie 4. Etzebeth 5. Matfield 6. Louw 7. Alberts 8. Vermeulen
Meyers side is better at 15, 10, 2, 4 and 8 and that's where it ends..........the difference at 10, 4 and 8 is marginal.

Dave
I am more inclined to say that Meyer would play Morne at 10 than Pollard - he would have played Morne in the latest Argentina test if Morne was not on leave from the squad for personal reasons. So the Meyer team would look like the following:-
15. Willie 14. JP 13. Jean 12. de Allende 11. Habana 10. Steyn 9. du Preez 1. Beast 2. Bismark 3. Jannie 4. Etzebeth 5. Matfield 6. Louw 7. Alberts 8. Vermeulen
16 Strauss, 17 Nyakane, 18 Malherbe, 19 De Jager, 20 Burger, 21 Pienaar, 22 Lambie, 23 Kriel.
There is but no chance that another team as listed by you would not beat the Meyer team as listed above. Another interesting thing would be to see the age distribution as per the above team as discussed in a thread elsewhere - where Mozart and Ceradunce did a jittery dance to hide the obvious so lets look at the age issue as to the above Meyer team:-
Willie le Roux - 26 years 1 monthJP Pietersen - 29 years 2 monthsjean de Villiers - 34 years 7 monthsDamian de Allende - 23 years 10 monthsBryan Habana - 32 years 3 monthsMorne Steyn - 31 years 2 monthsFourie du Preez - 33 years 6 monthsDuane Vermeulen - 29 years 2 monthsWillem Alberts - 31 years 4 monthsFrancois Louw - 30 years 3 monthsVictor Matfield - 38 years 4 monthsEben Etzebeth - 23 years 10 monthsJannie du Plessis - 32 years 10 monthsBismarck du Plessis - 31 years 4 monthsTendai Mtawarira - 30 years 2 months
The total age of the above players are - 458 years (rounded off) for an average age of 30,5 years.
Now lets make it more palatable by adding in the bench players:-
Adriaan Strauss - 29 years 10 monthsTrevor Nyakane - 26 years 4 monthsFrans Malherbe - 24 years 6 monthsPieter-Steph du Toit - 23 years 1 monthSchalk Burger - 32 years 5 monthsRuan Pienaar - 31 years 6 monthsPatrick Lambie - 24 years 11 monthsJesse Kriel - 21 years 7 months
The total age of the above players are - 215 years (rounded off) for an average age of 26,9 years.
The total team age looks like follows : 458 + 215 for an average of 29,3 years per player.
I would also change your alternative team slightly:-
15. Gelant 14. Ulengo 13. Swanepoel 12. Serfontein 11. v/Wyk 10. Jantjies 9. Hougaard 1. Kitshoff 2. Malcolm Marx 3. Marcel v/d Merwe 4. Willemse 5. Jacques du Plessis 6. Coetzee 7. Lappies Labuschagne (c), 8. Phillip van der Walt
16. Scara 17. Thomas du Toit 18. Dreyer 19. Ruan Botha 20. Jaco Kriel 21. Faf 22. Goosen 23. Odendaal
I left out Vorster in view of his injury - but when available select him ahead of Swanepoel at 13 and move Swanepoel to the bench in that case. Philip van der Walt is red-hot for the Sharks at present.

Snapster is you think that lot would beat meyer side please join fantasy rugby!
15. Andries Coetzee 14. Senatla 13. Vorster 12. Serfontein 11. v/Wyk 10. Jantjies 9. Hougaard 1. Kitshoff 2. Malcolm Marx 3. Marcel v/d Merwe 4. Willemse 5. Jacques du Plessis 6. Coetzee 7. CJ Stander 8 ( I am uncertain as to how he is playing but Saffex rates him). Arno Botha
16. Scara 17. Thomas du Toit 18 (great prospect but this RWC came too early for him). Koch 19. Ruan Botha 20. Jaco Kriel 21. Faf 22. Goosen 23. Odendaal
The strike outs are player players not better. The guys not struck out could have made the squad being of test material - in some cases a toss up.
Guys that one wanted in the squad - Willemse, Kriel, Coeztee and Du Plessis. Backs - Faf and perhaps Van Wyk who has been out for some time.
Worst picks are Coenie, matfiled and Kolisi.
Backline could have been shaped differently. Fourie Du Preez is Meyers dream scrummie but is he up to it. Was Kirchiner needed and did JP desereve a spot given his poor play.
Meyer is gambling on some players getting fit in time. Hope he is right.
Its impossible to know how things will go. Our backup side is far from our best given injuries, quotas and poor selections.

In World Cup playoffs, against experienced international sides with sudden death pressure on, that team of test rugby rookies will crumble. I'd back Meyer's side every time.

Much better to be as stupid as Meyer, than as stupid as Saffex.
Not necessarily a huge compliment, but a compliment nonetheless.
