Mozart

I looked at the game today and pointed out that as per normal Jantjies was way below par - Coetzee made a serious mistake by bringing him on and as expected he buggerd up badly.   Saffex has alredy inventedd an excuse for the missed drop goal straight in front that ended up halway between the goal post and the flag.   As to Kolisi he destroyed one serious move by the Stormers by knocking on a ball for no reason whatsoever.   Both are definitely not Springbok material.

Now lets get back to the backline tackling - De Villoiers was phenominal today - really by a hundred miles the best no 12 in SA at present.   So what happened to his center partner - your gret hero De Jongh.   Lets look at his stats from ESPN and see whether he should have played at all today:-

de Jongh 0/0 0 1/0/6 19 1 2 1 2 7/3 0/0 0 0/0

The man did his usual - but he did not give away ant penalties.  He lost possession of the ball twice - par for the course.   He managed to make 7 tackles and missed 3 - a missed tackle ratio of 30%.   That for him this year is also normal.

Still your favourite for Springbok selection???????

i felt real sorry for janties, to come into a such a high pressure game with all the things that went on before and then be put in that position??? phew, o_O
janties was like 8meters from the halfway line, that was going to be a tough ask for ANYBODY and the probabilty of failure was in the 90 percentile for anyone.
stormers should of kept going and trying to make more meters, they were making such  good progress in term of sustained pressure, but thier forwards for some reason in those last couple of phases stopped working as if they were expecting a drop goal now.

stormers have an awesome backline, but even though they scored two tries to none, they still have a very 10 man orientated rugby game.
the only time they ran it with conviction was when they were under the pum with less then 15mins to go and penalties and drop goals were out of the equation.
stormers could be one of the best teams in the comp easy if they backed themselves a little bit more on attack, luckily for everyone else, thats not going to happen under coetzee.

i like de jong, those stats arent good, but theyre not bad IMO. blues scored no tries so thats a big tick on the defence side of things and de jongs oppoisite im sure did a lot worse, including that miss tackle on JDV which led to the maestro scoring a try.
Boks could do a lot worse then de jong, but i do think there are better possibilties out there.
wont tell u who though, cos u might lose the plot, LMAO, :oP

Tobe quite frank - if they aimed to have a dop goa;l - I would much rather have used Pietersen for the purpose than Jantjies.    Bad organisation on the part of the Stormers - they should know that jantjies not once convrted anything this year.   However, he remains bad nws insofar as the Stormers are concerned.  I am just needling in this case.  Saffex blew his top and went off mad as hell at me.  o the next one is aimed at Mozart.

Mike we blew 2 certain tries. Came within millimeters of another ( I note we never saw a close up of the grounding?) failed to take some penalties missed one from in front. It was as if we were jinxed.

The ref also made acouple of blunders and the last one by the touch judge cost us the match.

The outcome of the game, crow as they will, was a travesty.

De Jongh is not an international class center as matters stand.  Allende and Van der Heever need to start. Pack needs Liebenberg with Deon Fourie at 6. Grant at flyhalf and Groom at scrummie.. Back that side against any team in the comp.

The two young Stormers props are begining to dominate. Shove in Tiaan there and the scrum will be immense. Bekekr and Etezebeth - excellent locks - and loosies, Fourie, Vermeulen and Elstadt/ Rhodes.

Fourie is a superb linking opensider he is extremely dangerous and adds a great deal on attack.

I too fail to see what the fuss is about Kolisi right now. He is not remotely in Fouries class. Fourie is creative. Kolisi puts in tackles but what else? Carr is a waste of space and Armand should be there. Why is Scurra ahead of the very usefull Bezuidenhout!!!! He is like flotsum and jetsum bobbing around ineffectually.

I fear quotas are playing a part in the Stormers camp. I have to say I am not a Coetzee fan. Its not becasue we lost it was a game where we were clearly the better side. However he is not putting it all together correctly.

Jantjes was near enough to make the drop. Was the blues defence off sides is a question.

From what we see our two best centers are Jean and Jan. But as snaspter pointed out there are some excellent youngsters arriving on the scene. For the June tests try these two though.

Beeno

I agree totally with you about De Villiers and Serfontein - as well as the suggestions as to the Stormers performance.  I have a problem with the Stormers flyhalf set-up.  I said from the start that Jantjies is the poorest player the Stormers could contract and felt that he should have been sent back to Johannesburg a month ago.   Van Aswegen is solid - but not a house on fire, so they need Grant back urgently.   When will he be ready to start playing again?

The sooner they play the backline suggested by you the better.  From being a reasonable defender - De Jongh has turned into a very poor defender.   He loses posession far too easily.

I also agree about Kolisi.  His defence today was good - but that is where it ended.   That one knock-ob of his was a shocker.   I also think Fourie is better as a loosie.

Saffex always carry on about career- defining occurences in games.   Whn I mentioned Kolisis and Jantjies in that category - he went ballistic.  However, I am serious when I say that Jantjies is a disaster and Kolisi at best is average.

Etzebeth needs more game time to get back to his best.

You guys obviously missed de Jongh's excellent break which set up Jean's first try and got the Stormers back into the game. Why de Allende "needs to start" baffles me....when in effect he blundered and gave away a crucial penalty. It wasn't de Jongh's best game, there were a few wobbles, but  he was way better than de Allende.

moz is right, de jong was brilliant in the lead up to the stormers first try. he hit that gap at full speed which put the blues on the backfoot, he broke twotackle and a phase later JDV scored a well earned try.
full credit to JDV for that nice short ball to de jong too.

@mikey,
given pietersons wayward kicking perforamnce in that game, janties prob would have been a better option.
IMO the problem with that last droppie was the stormers forwards had zero intensity the last three phases. they needed to pull finger and work it up and give their designated drop goal taker a better position to shoot, i mean inside the blues 10mtr??? o_O

Mozqart

Your defence of De Jongh is a classic.   It was not De Jongh's best game -  but he must remain.   De Allende got a very poor pass from Jantjies and knocked it on - so condemned for life.   At least De Allende if given a full game does not lose possession as De Jongh does  and bearing in mind De Jongh's defense stats this year - he did worse than normal yesterday.   Normally he missed roundabout 25% of all attempted tackles - on Friday it was 30%.
