A younger Bok side
Wot no Duds? To my way of thinking the most critical position is backline coach. Appoint Jean, he’s a smart bloke, understands backline play and the Bok mindset.
Pollard is not going to change, but he is a competitor and an ice man in big games. The spark needs to come from 9 and 12. The most obvious change is Willemse for Dud. Faf is still our best 9 but he needs some coaching help….free him up to play the natural game he played for the Lions.
The outside backs are okay with Willie at 15.
But we also need a running threat at forward…..remember Skinstad, Big Joe, the young Juan Smith. We can’t have this bankrupt running by Dud Toit and Kolisi’s once every 4 game brief spurt of effort.
Bring in Roos, Kwagga is too flawed in tight games, Vermeulen should retire he has been phenomenal but is now done.
It really should be done this year..the evidence is increasingly clear the 2019 WC team is beginning to fade away.
Yes ... it is rather interesting ... De lindy, from the best 12 in the game today, to not even making his match 23.
Stupid's state of confusion continues.
We have players ranging from 22 to 30 years old … with De Lindy coming in at 30.
Kolisi is 31. Supposedly being the best openside flank and captain on the planet one would have thought that Stupid would make room for his hero in the starting 15.
I guess he’s had a change of mind.
Kwagga is not a test rugby player … however he is a vast improvement on Kolisi at 6.
I am not in favour of playing a retreated loosehead at tighthead, however I definitely prefer Tank to both Nyakane and Malherbe. My choice would be Wilco Louw.
I prefer Hendrikse over Faf. Faf is set in his ways and to be quite honest, the much needed coaching you were referring to isn’t going to happen with our current coaching staff.
You can’t teach old dogs new tricks.
Fully agree with you on the back row.
Thing is though … do we have a better option at 6 than the lightweight Kwagga … and is their a Juan type to select at 7 or are we stuck with the over rated PSDT?
I don't think Rassie and co have any intentions of changing things up for the coming WC.
I doubt they've even thought of the WC to be honest ... so prepare yourself for the same old player mix we see today.
I don't Hendrikse is the best 9 that we have in SA. He is good, calm, but can have brain farts. Doesn't offer any threat with ball in hand or ever snipes. Neither has the pace like some of the best 9's out there. If you look at Du Pont, runs great support lines, doubles up as an extra support runner as well as lethal with ball in hand. Hendrikse can just kick and pass.
That is why I think Zac Burger from the bulls is the best young 9 today in SA. So many of the bulls tries came from him breaking around the rucks and getting players away.
Why not have Thomas at 1 and Wilco Louw at 3
I like Nama Xaba as an opensider, but he has been kept of the stormers team thanks to Deon Fourie playing out of his skin for the Stormers. Hopefully he can force his way through next season.
But we need a proper 6, not these half bake back line players posing as loose forwards.
Agree with all.... Johan Grobelaar must also be in the mix....Wilco must start and Thomas of the bench....Vincent tshituka for Kwagga, ...Zac Burger is also a must, with his creative running, he bring something extra to the table....Jean as backline Consultant, with Dawie Snyman as the Back/Attack Coach, will be a good combo....this is definitely our biggest problem.....not able to strike more Accurately with our Backs, is a big disadvantage....it will cost us Big Time.
Well, both Roos and Louw are only 22. How awesome would it be to have both in our World Cup squad. They are young, athletic and recover really fast. But we don’t have any real 6 under 25 that is knocking on the door right now.
They could have been up to 12 caps by the time the WC and ready to start any game. It would also set the boks up for the next cycle.
But instead we are stuck with the Wiese, Elstadt, Kolisi, Fourie, Vemeulens. Most of whom are over 30. Duane is unfortunately on the wrong side. Good to have in the wider group, but should be taking up any more caps that should go to youngsters. What can a player of 36 learn with 70 caps when we still lose to the All Blacks.
Nothing wrong with youngsters losing badly, rather them then veterans. Look what Jake did with players that bombed in 2003 to becoming world champs in 2007.
Woodward did the same. That English team got hammered by the boks and All blacks only to become one of the best English teams in modern rugby. Even winning ugly in New Zealand just before the World Cup.
That is why I believe Rassies and Nienaber time is up
Rassies pushes for quotas to represent South Africa ... that in itself is all he needs to keep his spot as top dog in SA rugby.
He's going nowhere ... and neither is his jabroer puppet.
Same sh!t different day...Meyer disappointed when he persisted with the old...had Bakkies not stood back, Eben would have 4 years less test experience today...think about it...
