ABs oldest yet
Carter has always been world class and still is....Morne has never.
Our old players are not the best in their respective positions other than at hooker....therein lies the difference between the Kiwi and Bok squads. There is a reason they are number 1....its because they select their best players regardless of age.....we don't
This is your opinion, one you can't back up in any meaningful way, except you supposedly know better than HM. Give me a break.
The big difference is that the AB's pick players on the basis of PERFORMANCE while in the case of the Springboks performance counts for nothing.
They also have their questionable cases like for instance Piutau not being selected.
However, the age factor is to my mind the one major problem where the AB's c an get unstuck in the upcoming tournament and I do not think they are going to be the champions this year again because of that factor.
This is in line with what Meyer said about some of his dubious selections. He knows what players are capable of - but he never considers present capabilities so of what vcalue is past capabilities in any event if they are not in practice at present?
I prefer to be optimistic. Life is mostly good. The Boks are in with a good chance. We have exciting young players like Etzebeth, Kriel and Pollard, and some legends of the game like Jean, Bismarck, Schalk and Duane. The team that ran through Europe in 2013 is embedded in the squad. We won't be easily dismissed.
Half empty...half full. Two different philosophies, hell two different lives.
This happens to be 2015 not 2013. You have forgotten that the team did not exactly run through Europe in 2014 - now did you.
The record of the team over the last 18 months was atrocious with only 1 and a half decent performances by the legends of the game you mentioned during that period. I would be optimistic if Meyer did not have to empty out a hospital ward in the Umhlanga Hospital to select a squad and have to play players who have not had a decent game for up to 14 months.
If Meyer had a plan in place to groom a decent squad into playing in the WC one could have reason to be optimistic - but he did not and in the end have to select players who are totally out of form and coming back from injury without any game time for many months. Bluff yourself and be optimistic about the Boks being in with a good chance. Don't put any money on that though - you are going t o lose.
We will talk about this one again in two months time.
Nope I am not banging on about age for if I was Bismark and Strauss would not be my hookers......I will say it again, our old players are not close to being the best in their respective positions and that's why their continued selection has us losing more than we win and slipping down the rankings.
The AB older players are the best they have.
Without a doubt, I know better than Meyer, that would not take much, much like I know I know more than you do - I have the results to confirm that.
There are no better 12's than Nonu and SBW in NZ - Fact, no better 10 than Carter or loosehead better than Woodcock and Cockett
In SA - de Allende, Serfontein, Frans Steyn, Frans Venter, Mnisi and Odendaal are all better than Jean.
Etzebeth, Lood, Willemse, PSDT, Ruan Botha, Lewies, Jacques du Plessis are all better than Matfield
Kitshoff is better than Beast
Malherbe, Marcel, Coenie and Koch are all better than Jannie
Hougaard, Faf and Reinach are all better than Pienaar
Brussouw, Coetzee, Kolisi and Jaco Kriel are all better than Louw
Jantjies and Goosen are far far better than Morne
You get the picture? No you don't and nor does Meyer, hence the results and our current ranking
