Ardie Savea is a little unlucky. He has been excellent since his debut.

 ...the headline is a little misleading...Ardie's on the bench and back to being used as an impact player...fair enough Matt Todd getting a start, he's been solid all year and will be eager to impress - one of the great things about players vying for the same position...they know they have to lift their game or be replaced...

Yet another French ref for us, undoubtedly in awe of the mighty ABs .

 expecting some other changes,..... like Naholo for Dagg (instead of Savea),.... or Todd on the bench,..... but a very strong side and the changes have their sense

good to see Todd having his opportunity, he's been excellent for some seasons now,.... and, as Brycy said, it's good for the team to have this rivalry for the spot

it has sense to field 2 of the bests aerial players in the world, Smith and Dagg, against a bok team who are announcing are going to kick every possesion they have

"Why was Julian dropped I thought he has been playing brilliantly . . ."

Does seem a bit strange especially as he's just got his confidence back. They obviously wanted to give Naholo a game so they had to choose between dropping Julian Savea and Israel Dagg. I suspect ABasque is right and they've kept Dagg because he's the better aerial player and they're expecting the Springboks to kick everything.

Bit tough on both Saveas.

 @cloudy,
I don't think Julian has been "dropped" (in the full sense of the word),..... i think they are rotating players,.... as you said, Savea was playing brillantly (as Smith and as Dagg),...... having such a long season seems that the coaching team opted for having a group of players for each position and rotate them,.....

they have Smith, Savea, Naholo and Dagg for the ourtside back (and NMS when recovered),.... they were saying that Smith needs some rest so probably for the 3rd bledisloe they can rest him and play with Naholo, Savea and Dagg,..... while the next game against the Irish they'll field another trio

same for the midfield with Crotty, ALB, Feikitoa and Moala,..... I think in the next games we'll see different combinations

as well for the second row,.... rumours say that Retallick will be resting and Romano starting for the last bledisloe

I agree with you Cloudy, just trying to guess what the selectors are thinking.

If it was me, my AB back three would be B Smith, J Savea and Naholo, no question. That looks like one of the most destructive back three combos in rugby history!

.. like Abasque has said having two fullbacks at the back is smart...

but there is only a finite number of positions available so there will always be players that miss out given the quality of players available... if the ABs stuck with a set team there would probably be more players leaving for Europe and Japan..

...rotation is a necessary evil that keeps the team on their toes competing against each other for positions...and gives new players opportunities to be blooded and impress like last week against Argentina...it's also about thinking ahead to the future, continuity and succession planning..
