On the first Aussie try there is a suspicion of interference. In truth two Aussie players cut between Steyn/ Step and the running player. It was close.
But it ends with Step and Hendricks on two Aussies .....but Step stays well off the Aussie until he has made enough forward progress for Folua to move past Hendricks and then offloads in a weak tackle.
Go forward to Hendricks try. Again the movement is created by a brilliant flat Morne pass. Willie does brilliantly to move it fast. Jean comits the defender. Step doesn't, he passes too soon, leaving Hendricks to beat the tackle which he does.
Then the winning Aussie try....there is a huge Aussie overlap. Jean senses the danger and shoots up on Tomua. But Step is planted so as Tomua is sealed off outside, he can offload inside to Folau. Step makes the tackle low but Folau has breached our space an offloads to Kurindrani.
He has lots of space with Lambie lined up in nowhere land. He runs onto Lambie who doesn't move forward, he actually moves back. He makes the tackle, but again an easy offload.....Marcel van der Merwe is gassed and the corner flagging Morne is stepped.
Contrast our passive tackling, Jean excepted, with the Aussie flying up in a line for the Hendricks score. We only beat their defence because Morne's brilliant, fast flat pass....and Willie's guts and hands. In our case there were big gaps, much as in Bargieland, mainly because our 13 is hanging back.
