Adongo credits Counties experience for development
Last ITM Cup season Kenyan export Daniel Adongo linked up with Counties-Manukau, where he played his part in helping the Steelers with the Championship and promotion to the top flight Premiership.
Adongo was listed as a Bulls wider training group member in 2012, and will link up with the Kings as the Eastern Province region looks introduce themselves to Investec Super Rugby.
While Adonga confirmed to Kenya's Daily Nation newspaper that he has signed to play with the Port Elizabeth-based Super Rugby newcomers, he indicated will return to New Zealand in July.
The hulking forward, who stands nearly 2 metres tall and weighs a cut 115 kilograms, also said that a dream had been sparked of continuing his playing career in New Zealand.
"My first season with the Counties has been superb and eventful, having been part of the team that won the Championship," Adongo said.
"I am so delighted that I should realise my dream of playing in Super Rugby, after having only played for Bulls in the build up ahead of the 2012 Super Rugby.”
Working under former All Blacks captain Tana Umaga, Adongo adapted well to the Steelers high paced game, with the Kenyan born player saying that the biggest difference between the New Zealand game and South African style being the desire to play at speed.
"I went to New Zealand with high expectations and for sure it has been fulfilled,” he said.
"I was looking for an opportunity to play and showcase my skills and I definitely got that in New Zealand and that has benefited me as a player and going forward.”
