Alister Coetzee Hails Adrian Strauss

Coetzee defended his choice of hooker Adriaan Strauss as captain, hailing his leadership under fire.

"He steered this team on and off the field in a tough situation and that shows his leadership ability," said the coach.

Strauss retired from test rugby last Saturday after the defeat by Wales in Cardiff - the seventh loss for the Springboks in eight internationals. Many Springbok supporters have vented their anger on social media at the losing streak and believe Coetzee is out of his de pth as a test coach.

He will go down as in history as the worst Bok captain with 4 out of 12 games. All credit to him.  To be honest, though it was always going to be a poison chalice with Coetzee running the show.
He is not a selector, or not much of a coach unfortunately. 

I am starting to think that Coetzee could useful as an administrator in rugby. The indaba and ideas that have followed were to some degree his idea. He seems to have the backing- more so than other coaches would get.  He could then focus on what should be happening behind the scenes- including recruiting a proper coach. 

Adrian Strauss could or perhaps should be made the scape goat if the Boks do well this year. 

Shark there were numerous examples of Strauss being a poor leader at the Bulls too.
My feeling is that he played a major role in the Bok problems last year, as well as at the Bulls for the last two seasons. For me it was very clear how the Bulls improved last year as soon as Strauss assertion Bok duty. And then dipped again when he returned.
Just my view.
