WELLINGTON: The All Blacks say South Africa have returned to their time-wasting antics, at the same ground where they first accused them of feigning injuries eight years ago.

Senior New Zealand players voiced their concern at the number of Springboks who sought medical treatment during the All Blacks 14-10 win in Wellington on Saturday.

Captain Richie McCaw and No.8 Kieran Read regularly remonstrated with French referee Jerome Garces, believing the tourists were deliberately slowing the speed of the Test to nullify New Zealand's high-speed approach.

"There were probably a lot of stops in the game, which took away from the physicality all the time," Read said.

"We wanted to play a tempo game. I think the way they play, they want to play at their pace.

"I was probably letting my feelings known to the referee when they went down. Hopefully they (officials) can sort it out next time."

Following a Test win in Wellington in 2006, then-All Blacks coach Sir Graham Henry said South African players had sought unnecessary treatment and said the tactic was also used by their Super Rugby teams that year.

There was criticism from observers that England slowed down Tests in New Zealand in June through delays in setting scrums and lineouts.

However, Read says the All Blacks struggle for flow against South Africa could also be attributed to the Springboks' vigorous competition at the breakdown.

His No.8 opposite Duane Vermeulen led the way, tackling and driving with intent to force New Zealand into handling errors and poor tactical choices despite a surfeit of possession.

"We came out and probably didn't really do what we said we were going to do," Read said.

"It was about getting back to playing our game and backing ourselves and looking after that ball."

Read was a standout for the All Blacks, making a host of dangerous offloads.

He produced the play of the day when leaping to collect a cross-kick and offloading to McCaw to score New Zealand's only try.

 Yeah they took their time for lineouts and scrums but meh still won.A different ref may not be so lenient .

Wardad: Beeno of course does not realise that Nonu played with a broken arm & waited for half-time to take himself out of the game. You didn't see Nonu do a soccer-like flop. 
I agree, Refs have to tighten up on these "injuries" & this waddling to the next set piece needs to be dealt with al so.

South Africa do take their time at lineouts, although I am not sure this is to waist time. Their are laws which allow the referee to penalize a team if they take too long at a lineout. I suppose it is up to the referee to deem how long it too long! With regards to faking injuries that is not sporting play, although hard to be sure if it is genuinely the case- except that Harlequins player that got caught spitting a fake blood capsule 

New Zealand usually take their lineouts quick, but often I think they do this not to speed up the game from restarts, but instead to not give the opposition a fair chance to jump.Sean Fitzpatrick allways did this. He would pretend to pick his nose, or look the opposite direction and throw the ball suddenly to prevent the opposition lineout jumpers from competing. It is common place in New Zealand teams in the Super XV as well. 

The Poms also slow things down. Each team tries to play at the style that suits them & not what suits the opposition. There is no problem with that even if it is annoying - there are limits of course . I'm not do sure the Boks were faking injuries, some teams do , it was clear the Argies were last season. That's not on. 
IMO ABs want the fast line out to speed up the game & also to not give the opposition time to set. All part of the game

Some teams like to play at one hundred miles an hour so the ref can't see all the forward passes, off sides and numerous other illegalities that the those of us can see watching at home. Oh yeah, who was it that wanted more technology in Rugby ? What a spiffing idea  

 But Becs we have to bring your Team into it. The amount of shouting and noise they made at lineout time in June to deafen the ABs Lineout calls worked as the ABs took time trying to shout over the din and the ref awarded your Team short arm penalties a couple of times. I personally think it is bad sportmanship.

Becs: glad that the ABs called for 2 refs to stop teams from out running the ref & getting away with such  shenanigans   

Of course your team never shout at line out time, do they ? Never have done ! Nope they are the proverbial Saints ! Oh hang on, that's my team  
What about having a Ref in your AIG advert....a certain Welsh one. Talk me through that scenario.I think it's nice he is included  

 Becs I am not sure about a Welsh ref in our AIG advert but we do have various nationalities in the All Blacks camp. We have a Welshman who is our video analyst, a couple of Australians as part of the Coaching staff. We chose people on Merit. If the Welsh ref is better than blind Wayne Barnes then sure we will include him in our AIG advert.

 Well a certain Wayne Barnes felt it was "too soon " so...Engerland would never do anything sly now would they ?Its sweet how in the RWC ad England had that old lesbosian? thespian ?one of those anyway, in the shed giving the  "band of Brothers " talk or whatever ...very inclusive !

Becs: the refs play an important part of the game (some would say too important) so it is only right that they are acknowledged .

More %s for your information; it's now 51 victories to 34 for the ABs over the Boks. That's 50% more wins for the ABs and we can only see that growing!

Moolaa: yes Beeno brings out the best in us, lol I sometimes worry about how he is holding up what we the harsh reality of ABs beating the boks & the ensuing banter but he is a resilient weee chap & bounces back well.
