Kaino is American Samoan and an American Citizen so he is probably pointing out certain landmarks to his friend Vito  so Vito can get lost and he can take Vitos spot in the ABs line-up LOL

SA played the USA in the USA back in ''81. They were on their way back from NZ after they were screwed out of a victory buy Ed Morrison (was it?). The stopped over in the USA for a game against the USA.


I remember an interview with Thys Burger. The whole thing was quite hush-hush and they did not play at a big venue and in the week of the run-up the Boks were busy with a bit of training at the venue. While they were busy Burger, who was named as a reserve on the bench, was watching while a number of guys were busy putting up makeshift wooden poles. He wandered over and started chatting to hem and ended up helping them. The day of the game, they discovered that they were short of one touch judge and he took the flag. During the game, one of the players got injured and  he had to replace him, so he handed the flag to one of the other reserves and went on. He laughed and said that  he was the only Bok ever to help erecting the poles, was a touch judge, reserve and player, all in the same game.

Great backline Vlag. Still I'm looking forward to seeing SBW in person ....the temps are a little crisp, shall we say Blikkies. But way above the coldest I have experienced at Soldier Field. We once were there at 5 below with a wind blowing. When the Bears tanked in the first half we called it a day along with many others. The only cab that was available was being hailed by a drunk...we hopped right in there with him and had a hilarious drive back into the City

 Yea I was trying to be subtle...but everyone was saying Houston looks like  we have a problem...

 

The mighty Eagles were  robbed.  The All Blacks  insisted on not falling down when they were legitimately tackled ...and there were howls of opprobrium when Joubert whistled the Mighty Eagles for offences the crowd couldn't figure out.

Still it was a splendid sight with 62000 people in the ground. The Haka was much anticipated and enjoyed..and the craft of the AB game was appreciated by all.
 Our seats were quite high and from that vantage point one could really get a great appreciation for the AB field coverage, at times it seemed there were 20 ABs on the park.

Fun stuff even if it wasn't a match.  

 Glad you enjoyed the match Mozart , did our American friends enjoy the game despite the scoreline ? Was hoping they would score a try to give them some joy .Thats funny  as about Thys Burger !Should be called the handyman or Jack .Brycy is in good form I see !

It was sort of a novelty Wardad....but the ground remained full right to the end. So they must have enjoyed themselves, or perhaps the crowd thought there was a third period!  

 This was a game of men against kids.   The kids were taught a mighty lesson to keep quiet and not try and interfere with grown up business.   
If Rugby was a key sport in the USA and other more populous countries the AB's and SA would no rate as the no 1 and 2 rugby playing nations.   
That being said it was a runawaay victoy with SBW be massive in the game.   However, the opposition was too weak to  get any substantial indication of how the AB's would do against the top rugby playing nations.   A nice walk in the park for the AB's.  

 Glad you enjoyed the game Moz. It is always a different experience seeing it live. As you say, when you are high up you get a better sense of the entire field & see plays unfold - a better sense of what the teams are trying to achieve. I always enjoyed watching NFL games from on high for the same reason.

I think this may inspire them for the Olympic 7s. Make no mistake the ath letes are there and 7s has a much shorter learning curve. This was quite a big deal.

Both anthems posted were bad, but Hudson's was simply painful!!! Typical bloody American arrogance! The singers are just trying to show off by singing loud while changing the timing and melody! The problem, apart from it sounding crap, is that nobody in the crowd can even sing along, because it sounds so different to the actual anthem. 
Stupid! 

 Cornelison sings the anthem for the Chicago Blackhawks....a trained opera singer he usually does a good job. But the anthem was the least of my concerns, I was trying to get to my seat in time to see the Haka. The combination of 60000 people and Saturday shopping (vs Sunday for the Bears)  created some horrible traffic snarls.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought the anthems were butchered. Plenty of bemused faces in the crowd, even during the Star-Spangled Banner.

I agree Cloudy, all this over elaboration of a good melody is irksome. The Welsh are the gold standard.....wonderful songs, sung simply and with great passion....it never gets old.
