All Blacks player ratings

By: Chris Rattue
Ben Smith 6
Heavily involved in his short stint but major problems under the high ball - three spills.

Israel Dagg 9
Seems built for tests. You name it, he did it. Started by twisting Daly out of a try, and set up two of the All Black tries. Fabulous, especially in the first half.

Ryan Crotty 7
Half an hour of strong running before a hamstring injury struck.

Sonny Bill Williams 8
Monster game as a battering ram. Only real blot was a loose moment which led to Lions counter-attack.

Rieko Ioane 8
Didn't do a lot, but nailed tries and that's his job. The second try revealed him as the ace of pace. Early steps on a long career.

Beauden Barrett 8
Shock, horror...magnificent goal kicking. Early switch to fullback. Plenty of good stuff, including under high balls and wonder recovery pick-up, but without the famed attack magic.

Aaron Smith 8
It's the little things that count, like the shimmy to help create first Ioane try. Vital ankle tap to prevent early Murray try chance. Constantly involved.

Kieran Read 9
Amazing performance after two month absence. Endless charges, great scrum scoop to create a try, soaring kickoff reception. Smashing tackle on Farrell. Staggering. My man of the match.

Sam Cane 8
A tradesman by All Black openside standards, but strong and huge work appetite. Ripped ball of Kruis. A bit static so prone to getting shoved backwards. Lots of passes.

Jerome Kaino 8
Making his considerable presence felt before departing early for a head assessment.

Sam Whitelock 8
Not a classic Whitelock performance in the air, but good enough, and strong toiler on the ground.

Brodie Retallick 9
Knocked the Lions back with series of short runs, great covering tackle on flying Watson...where would the All Blacks be without the great man?

Owen Franks 7
Stolid. Solid. Stoic.

Codie Taylor 6
Fine low catch to score, a couple of good runs, but the lineout throwing unravelled, big tackle miss on Davies.

Joe Moody 8
One memorable charge, and plenty of work. Turning into an outstanding test prop.

Reserves:
Nathan Harris (Taylor, 67m) 5
A lineout lost. Not much around the field.

Wyatt Crockett (Moody, 54m) 7
Big first scrum the highlight. Still a bit of a penalty magnet.

Charlie Faumuina (Franks, 54m) 7
Big initial scrum led to a try, and a couple of bruising runs in the tight.

Scott Barrett (Read, 77m) 4
Just enough time to let Webb in for a try. Tough gig.

Ardie Savea (Kaino, 46m) 7
Usual bundle of energy - the perfect second half replacement loosie.

TJ Perenara (A. Smith, 57m) 7
Bomb led to try, fine defensive steal. Couldn't get running though.

Aaron Cruden (B. Smith, 27m) 8
Fabulous physical game from the little bloke. Even tangled with the mighty Sinckler. Let Williams free though, allowing great Lions try to unfold.

Anton Lienert-Brown (Crotty, 32m) 7
Not convincing as a commanding centre but he was willing and made some runs.

this is IMO the most accurate rating,.... the only change I would make is to give Cruden a 6,...... I don't think he deserved an 8 after the awful kicking game he showed,.... first (sh¡t)kick he made lead to the lions first try, the second was charged down,..... and the AB lost the pace when he came in,.... they couldn't find any momentum until 30 mins later,..... obviously it was not his fault only but he contributed with his kicking

usually players with 3 minutes of game are not rated, logically (case of S. Barret),.... Franks and Taylor probably deserve one more point each,.... they had good games,.... yeah, Taylor failed a couple of lineouts but they were dominant and dismantled thelions' hopes of imposing their scrum

incredible Read's performance having played just a couple of games this season and the last one 8 weeks ago,.... gave a masterclass,... and the scoop at the back of the scrum, simply unbelievable,.... few backs are able to do it, let alone forwards

Blaming a hooker for missing a tackle on a fullback/winger in space seems a tad harsh.
