Pretty good team overall, no surprises to see Luatua miss the cut, due to his poor fitness levels. Apart from Barrats average performance againgst the Blues, he came back strong in the second half and showd his class. So heres my team for the English.

1. Owen Franks 2. Dane Coles 3. Wyatt Crockett 4. Brodie Retilluck 5. Sam Whitelock 6. Liam Messam 7. Richie Mccaw (c) 8. Keiran Read 9. Aaron Smith 10. Beaudan Barratt 11. Julian Savea 12. Nonu 13. Smith 14. B Smith 15. Isreal Dagg

Key facts:
1.  Two new players: Highlanders midfielder Malakai Fekitoa and Blues lock Patrick Tuipulotu

2. Back in the squad: Kaino & Vito
3.  17 forwards (two hookers, five props, four locks and six loose forwards) and 14 backs (three halfbacks, three first five-eighths, four midfielders and four outside backs).

4. Representation from teams: -   5 Blues players, -    5 Chiefs, -    8 Hurricanes, -    9 Crusaders-    3 Highlanders
No real surprises. As 3ku1 said Luatua is out because of fitness issues. This sends a clear signal to all but also made it easy for the selectors as there are a lot of contenders for loose forward spots.

No big shocks as far as I am concerned.

A further postscript to the England Squad is that Marler is really struggling with his hip issue, so, having lost Cole, Vunipola and Corbisiero, we would be totally stuffed if he has to pull out too ! David Wilson can't do it all himself

Hartley played off the bench for Northampton yesterday, so his cracked shoulder must have healed. He should be on his way to NZ with the second lot of players.

Farrell looked to have recovered from his ankle sprain, but went down with cramp and was replaced earlier than they would have liked. Billy Vunipola was struggling from the first few minutes but played almost the entire match.....and that was including the extra time we had to play as it was a draw at full time. I'm not sure how fit he will now be.

After Meyer efforts in bring in all the older players one can't comment too much on the abs selections! The core one would have expected are there.Who missed out is a question?

Here is an article on Sport 24 re the abs srticking with old hands - Much like meyer perhaps. Meyer I feel has missed the opportunity to play some flair players in the loose froard spot and at scrummie for example.

Wellington - The All Blacks selectors resisted the chance to experiment a year out from the Rugby World Cup and named a vastly experienced squad on Sunday for the upcoming three-Test series against England.

Only three uncapped players made the 31-man squad with coach Steve Hansen dismissing suggestions England were down on manpower.

Lock Patrick Tuipulotu and centre Malakai Fekitoa are new faces in the squad to be be lead by 124-Test veteran Richie McCaw.

The other is scrumhalf TJ Perenara who was on the All Blacks northern tour last year but did not take the field.

Of the 23 players involved in the famous 24-22 victory over Ireland at the end of that tour, which saw the All Blacks become the first team in the professional era to go through a calendar year undefeated, only Steven Luatua is missing.

He's been muscled out of a bulging group of experienced loose forwards by the return of Jerome Kaino from Japan and a resurgence in form of Victor Vito. Both were part of the 2011 World Cup-winning All Blacks.

England arrived in New Zealand without several top players who were involved in this weekend's Premiership final, won by Northampton 24-20 over Saracens, and will be unavailable for next weekend's first Test.

However, a diplomatic Hansen said he still rated England as a "formidable opponent" and the most improved side in the world over the past two years.

"Those who think England will be fielding a weak side in the first Test are completely underestimating the quality of depth in the England squad," he said, underlining the importance of the series ahead of the 2015 World Cup.

"If we can play well we'll have the psychological advantage. Conversely, if they play well they'll have the psychological advantage going into next year's World Cup."

While talking up England, Hansen also noted New Zealand's rugby depth, saying there were "more quality players available than we are able to select".

Contenders ruled out of consideration because of injury include outside backs Francis Saili and Charles Piutau and lock Luke Romano, while leading flyhalf Daniel Carter is on extended leave and will not be available until later in the year

(Very small injury list compared to ours - netball rugby pays off - hahahahhahaha).

Beeno: as always I give all your posts the attention they deserve. Hence, please find below a "scientific approach" to unraveling the mysteries of the AB selections/non selections & the same for the Boks.
Clevermike: would you please apply that brilliant analytical mind of yours a put Meyers selections in the categories below. Saffex  may want to have a shot also.
All Blacks (RWC champions)
All potential ABs with a Mass Skills Index (MSI) of +30 missed out (so only Luatua missed out). All other players fit into level 2. See table below for scale.

Boks (ranked 2nd in the world)
Meyer relied on the table below for his selections.  Players with a MSI of +30 are seen as positive, 83.21% of Bok players selected have a MSI of +30 *
MSI Scale is:
Level 1:  + 30 (obese, fat & useless)
Level 2:  25-29.9 (fit fast & effective) all ABs selected fall in this category
Level 3:  18.5-29.8 (average but can't pass or catch ball) a characteristic that fits into other levels also
Level 4:  Less than 18.5 (too skinny to play the game but some of Meyers selections fall in this category)

*Evidence is purely arbitrary & has the Moz level of reliability

Beeno: you have failed to rise to the challenge of putting the "creative" but the unstructured "thinking" process of yours to the test I put in front of you.
I trust you bettors, Clevermike, Moz, Saffex, Boklogic (I don't want to list Rooi as this would be inflamatory) & others will rise to the occasion.

im surprised fekitoa made the final squad TBH, but im glad he did,
even happier that it didnt come at the expense of ryan mr reliable crotty,

bummed for luatua, but if only has Bok fitness, then he dosent deserve to be named and kudos to hansen,

but his absence has meant one of my favourite players viktor vito is back in the squad, and i didnt think he would make the final cut either, so hip hip hooray for the return of the hurricane powered loosie.
IMO vito is NZs best No8 after read.

dont like our how we only have two hookers, IMO given mealamus history with injury and his age, it would have been prudent to have another hooker in the mix, some who retains familiarity with ongoing training sessions within the All Blacks.
that way the 3rd hooekrs transition should an unfortunate injury occur, is a lot more smooth when hes called into the 23.

nice to see tuipulotu rewarded for an outstanding 2014 spXV season, but hard to imagine him sitting higher then 4th on the lock pecking order.
jaws and whitelock have well and trully cemented their places as the All Blacks incumbent 2nd row.

bummed for thrush though, but i agree with the lock selections. i thought thrush preformed above expectations in all his All Black caps last year, and i wouldnt have had a problem should he have been reselected.

no surprises with the squad named, england are tier 1 level threat, and as long as complacency is left outside the All Blacks squad, we should win all three tests.

GO ALL BLACKS!!!

Good squad. Not a single player picked on anything other than merit and not a single overseas-based player.
Every single player in that squad has shown some form in the current S15. I am very envious. Wish I could say the same for the Springboks. We're picking overseas-based has-beens or plodders who would never be picked if not for the colour of their skin.
PS Sasuke, you've picked Luke Romano on your bench and he's not in the squad.

No Patrick Tuipolotu? I'd be considering him to start ahead of Brodie Retallick.
My only criticism of your squad is that you're a bit thin at fullback. i'd have picked another winger (Frank Halai or Tim Nanai-Williams) to cover Ben Smith in case he has to move to fullback.
As for the starting flyhalf, to me Beauden Barrett is a no-brainer but I know you Kiwis have all bought into this myth that Aaron Cruden is something special so I don't expect you to agree with me.
Edit: Oh and I'd certainly consider giving Malakai Fekitoa his first cap at the expense of Conrad Smith. Snake is 32 and a test series against an England B team would be a good time to blood his obvious successor.

@rooy,

"No Patrick Tuipolotu? I'd be considering him to start ahead of Brodie Retallick."
on form that would be a fair call, but brodie IMO is exactly like whitelock in my books, an easy outright incumbent.
hansen though is a massive fan of tuipulotu, so i would expect to see him somewhere at some stage.

"My only criticism of your squad is that you're a bit thin at fullback. i'd have picked another winger (Frank Halai or Tim Nanai-Williams) to cover Ben Smith in case he has to move to fullback."nah we got fullbacks up the wazoo,

israel dagg, ben smith are the first pick fullbacks, but we also have beauden barret and colin slade, both of whom have played at 15 for the All Blacks and their respective spXv teams.

while many may not remember this, but corey jane is a fullback turn winger and im pretty sure hes played 15 for the All Blacks at some stage too, i know hes played a ton of games at full back for the canes.

then when u look at the wing options excluding ben smith and dagg should one be unavailable and the other need for 15,,,
julian savea, corey jane, ryan crotty, malakai fekitoa.

its a smooth ride on the waves outside backs depth,

"As for the starting flyhalf, to me Beauden Barrett is a no-brainer but I know you Kiwis have all bought into this myth that Aaron Cruden is something special so I don't expect you to agree with me."
i would have no problem with barret starting for the All Blacks over cruden, on an other thread i rated the my top three NZ flyhalves and cruden wasnt even in the mix, he wouldnt even be top 4.

but i know what cruden can do, and he has in the past delivered so many times. i see no reason why he wont he deliver again.

FYI though, cruden who i once thought was the heir apparent to carters throne, no longer has my complete confidence.
IMO after the RWC, it will be barret who will be NZs No1 flyhalf, just like it will be ardie savea who will be the All Blacks No7, and not cane.

"Edit: Oh and I'd certainly consider giving Malakai Fekitoa his first cap at the expense of Conrad Smith. Snake is 32 and a test series against an England B team would be a good time to blood his obvious successor."
i dont buy the whole england B team, IMO all that matters is that its england period.
enlgand, france, Boks and wallabies are the All Blacks tier 1 level threat opponents, that means we must field our strongest team possible at all times, regardless of what maybe going on in their squad.

winning the test is more important then breaking in new blood, but im sure hansen will in his infinite wisdom, come up with the perfect balance in his starting XV and bench to ensure that some kind of game time is allocated to fekitoa and even tuipulotu.
hansens done a pretty sweet as job since he took over from ted, so im sure the 23 named players will get the job done.

the pumas is where i would like to see fekitoa and tuipulotu start test match, or even agisnt the USA and other lesser nations.
but for the Boks, wallys, england and france, NZ must always serve the best kiwi titans available.

Yeah pretty sound team. Only the two new caps. England playing the, we are terrible don't expect much from us. The under dogs card. NZ will put their best side on the field every time at all times. Don't expect to much from the AB this series either. Their usually pretty rusty the first few outings. By RC should start to shape up. England tests will be tighter than everyone thinks due to the fact they haven't played together since last year and some are still not test fit .

Great squad. Gonna do some serious damage to the Poms as is and probably go on to take the WC next year ... especially with Meyer's absurdity.

Only question mark for me is over Crotty. Not up to the same standard as the rest in my opinion. I guess this might change as one gets a little closer to the WC.

Any chance of us seeing Sonny Bill Williams coming back into the mix for the WC? How about Rene Ranger?

Damn ... you guys have talent to burn!!!!!!!

What's with the race card?

Are you sulking??

This has more to do with the useless "Stompies" thumping you than it does with Meyer's brainless selections ... huh??

Would never have pegged you for a pouter.

No we genuinely do have a glut of injuries in key positions, so have to blood new players at a crucial time, and fixture congestion. That is not a lie.
However, we will be making the best of it. Simple as that.
A lot of players are carrying injuries or, in the case of players like Hartley ( when he gets there ), are coming back from a long spell out through a nasty injury. So they will be rusty.

But it is what it is. I think it's ill advised and I am dreading it ( will watch under the duvet, methinks  ) but, as long as they all give of their best, we cannot ask for more. It's a steep learning curve !!

@cleancut,

SBW will be back playing for the chiefs next year with eyes on the RWC, so he will definately be back in the mix.
personally though, i would rather have nonu manning up the inside center role, his strengths and skill sets are different, but its synergy to hansens All Blacks are faultless.

i wouldnt mind SBW as outside center though, i feel he has a lot more to offer then snake, but conrad is always a safe bet, one of the best option takers in the game in both attack and defence.

ryan crotty dosent get as the love he deserves IMO, even within NZ campfires.
but IMO hes the player u can rely on every single day of the week and twice on sunday.
he has been the backbone of the crusaders run of solid form for the last month (even with the sharkie hiccup), like conrad he has great vision in both attack and defence, and his utility factor being able to play anywhere on the wing and centers makes him a very valuable member of the All Blacks.
