All Blacks team for 3rd irish test,,,
6 changes from the test last week and two were forced. carter pulled a hammy and reads headknock sees both of them out and messam and aaron cruden who was the spXV form flyhalf get to both start.
ellison who was the spXV form 13 and barret from the hurricanes are both on the bench and luke romano gets to start his first game, partnered with his crusader teammate whitelock.
All Blacks still looking good, despit 6 changes.
GO ALL BLACKS!!!
Sasu
Like what i saw of Cane - he is going to be the real replacement for McCaw and I am glad he is getting a chance to play.
Like Cruden also. The problem in the case of some players is that constant injuries become noticeable more and more when players get to or are over 30 years of age. That could be the problem with Carter as well - how many games have Carter played since the WC - and now another injury? From what i saw this year - he is not the same Dan Carter of two years ago.
I have serious reservations about Weepu and Barrett as well. Barrett I can understand - but what Weepu is still doing around - except for doing the Haka - is aboslutely amazing.
@clevermike,
lol, when i first heard that carter was injured, i immediately thought of ur post on another blog where u mentioned ur injury issues with the older players.
its hard to comment on carter objectively, as he and McCaw are two of NZ favourite sons. IMO i agree with some of ur points about carters 2012 performance. his comeback from injury was hampered and he only showed glimpses of his class, but his last few weeks with the crusaders and his performance in the two tests was exactly what i wanted from him.
the momentum from test 1 was on the back of his goal kicking where All Blacks quickly built lead, which led to the teams confidence to do what they had to do, which in turn had a snowball effect on the momentum which the irish drowned in. carter had a great game attacking wise too, running the ABs backline as he does best. test 2 is where his mental fortitude stepped up and with his experience and nerves of steel, he saved our asses by keeping us in touch via goal kicking with the irish and never letting them build too much of a lead despite the momentum they had for most of the game and then of course that drop goal which kept All Blacks undefeated streak against the irish intact.
i think injuries can happen to anyone, but obviously the older u get the more susceptible u are. but value to the team should always outweigh someones injury issues when it comes to selections, but like i said, my opinons are biased, but that is how i feel.
i was very impressed with sam canes performance of the bench, very impressed, especially considering myself and most of NZ would have preferred to have seen matt todd (crusaders) get that AB spot. i hope he continues with his progress, but im definately liking what i see.
weepu was an oddball selection, especially after the season andy ellis has had to date. but i accepted hansens reasons, which was his faith in the senior and experienced players who went in form to preform at a high level for the All Blacks. hansen is also of the opinion that weepu is the best wet weather rugby player in the world, which helped him get selected.
but as long as we continue to groom aaron smith in the No9, i am very happy with wwepus presence, cos aaron smith has been applying his trade at the highlanders with cowans experience and knowledge fueling his rugby prowess and now hes gettin the other All Blacks No9 of recent times input.
Sasuke - I hope for your sake that they are not detonating test caps, would make for a very short but interesting game. Haha!
I think the AB's will miss the enforcer Read. Love the way he plays - he will be a handful in the 4N's. Without him, the AB forwards are more guile and technique (which they excel at) but I think Ireland may count themselves fortunate he's not in the game.
@oimatey,
LMAO, yes i hope they arent detonating test caps either, :P
very true about read, but even taking irelands wicked performance last week, we should still beat the irish comfortably without read, key word being 'should'.
TBH i would rather read sit this one out, cos theres only 5 test matches i really want him to be in tip top shape and play this year, the three against the wallabies and the two against the Boks.
im glad messam is in the equation though, we need a bit more grrrrrrrrrr in our looseforwards, especially with read absent.
Here's a few questions to all Kiwi fans...
- Who is good enough to replace McCaw?
- Whore and Mealamu are near the end of their careers. Who is next in line?
- Locks... do me a favour! You have Porky Ramano playing tests now!
- Carter is near the end of the line. Is Cruden good enough to take over? ... In my opinion, he is awesome.
- Will Read be the next cap?
- Is Sonny overrated at internation level? Personally, I still prefer Nonu.
- Dagg or Jane?
Just a few quezzies a couple of us were discussing recently.
@flashdakota,
thats a cute little kid u got there, i told my missus about ur recent ordeal and showed her ur avatar pic and now shes was absoultely gushing and talking about wanting a baby,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,well thats the last time i show her an baby pics, lmao. :P
anway i will answer those questions, they have been discussed at length at one point or another on the NZ forums and here is my opinon.
1. despite what McCaws detractors will say, no one in the world is good enough to replace McCaw and what he brings to the table.
but the guys that look like his immediate successor is obviously sam cane who played brilliantly off the bench and gets his first start this weekend. its still to early to say how he will fare by years end, but hes been solid ofr the chiefs and was great in his AB debut, so hes ticking all the right boxes.
i wasnt sold on cane when he was first picked, i thought that matt todd should have been picked ahead of him as hes been in great form the last two years, he was spXVs form openside last year and has been solid again this year, so his AB snub was surprising, but i stiull think his AB time will come.
2. first off its hore, not whore even if he is a hooker, LMAO, :D
but this is the biggest area of concern for me in particular, i have raised the warning alarms on allblack forums in regards to our depth in the No2, but it dosent seem to be of concern to many.
the answer is simple, its hika elliot from the chiefs, but he gets it virually by default, cos our top 3 AB hookers are hore, mealamu and flynn and flynn is the youngest at age 31. we dont have anyone else anywhere near good enough to play at hooker for the ABs, elliot has experiecne and is young, but at the chiefs, samoa captain mahroni schawlger has been the prefered chiefs incumbent hooker, so elliot isnt getting much game time which is worrying for me.
3. not a big romano fan myslef, but i think hes been selected to give him a decent AB run before 4nats, i would like to see jared hoeata in the ABs, i think he has a lot more to offer as his style is very similar to thorn and bakkies as an enforcer.
if romano dosent work out though, then we still have retallick on the bench and both he and whitelock are the ABs incumbent locks.
very impressed with retallick this year and im looking forward to his lineout battles with ezebeth who he is taller then by an inch.
4. carter still has a good two years at least in him, maybe longer who knows, but i agree, cruden is ready to take over now if need be and im really expecting cruden to push carter for the incumbent flyahlf position.
5. yes read will be the next captain, i have no idea why hansen has made carter vice captain during the irish games, but read has very similar leadership qualities to McCaw.
6. SBW aint overrated, but odriscoll really showed some holes in his defensive game which is good, cos i want them patched up before the 4nats. on attack ive got no problems waht so ever, cos ive never seen anyone get over the advatage line with the ease in which he does it and hes a defensive magnet unlike no other, which against the All Blacks is a suicdial mindset, considering the rest of our backline.
theres still room for nonu, but u havce to remeber that hes been playing rugby nonstop since 2011 spXV. after the RWC he went to japan and played there, thjen he came back had 2 weeks of and was playing for the blues, so his exclusion is more to give him and his body a decent breather.
nonus value to the team is still great and with SBW, nonu tamati ellison and conrad smith, the AB centers is looking healthy and i wouldnt be surprised to see this area get rotated.
7, dagg for sure at 15, hes a lot like lambie for the Boks, if hes fit hes the fullback.
once jane and kahui return from injuries, i wouldnt be surprised to see them both in the ABs during the 4nats, as we will need all the exeprienced top dogs to come out, especially against the boks and wallabies.
if all are fit, im expecting 11 kahui, 14 jane, 15 dagg, 22 ben smith to make up the ABs outside backs.
Gotto say, the All Blacks have some awesome talent coming through the ranks. SOuth Africa too, except maybe in the centres (Whole new discussion), but I think the other rugby union playing nations would give anything to have the young talent that NZ and SA have. Is that arrogant?
i agree bluebok and they have about only a 8th of the amount of players we do here in SA....just shows you that if your structures are geared towards performance and development of players you can achieve anything.
the AB play the same style of rugby from juniors to seniors so by the time they get to the highest level the switchover is so much easier. i always felt in the years gone by that there forwards had a bit of a soft underbelly reason being that they are so obsessed on backline play but they are still pushing great forwards through the ranks. we can really learn a lot from them in terms of player development and structure.
hope the irish pip them at the posts on the weekend.
True that CM. I am also hoping one of the SANZAR nations lose this weekend (Preferably the AB's to bring them back down to earth)...except us of course. The total domination by the South, including the Argies, is actually a little embarrasing.
