well, the expected 23,....... the only not foreseen inclusion could be that of Nathan Harris over Taylor,.....

I just would like to see A. Savea and Dagg starting one of the series' games,.....

Good to see Ardie Savea will get a shot from the bench, Tamanivala had a fast rise to the ABs (only his second Super rugby season).
Man the caps count looks low when you think about the team that played the RWC. Glad players are getting their chance.

No surprises, with only Moody, Harris and Tamanivalu not being sure picks, but who's the alternatives?  Good team, but not nearly as experienced as teams of the last 8 odd years. Rebuilding like the Bokke, but from a much stronger foundation.  Good luck.

also would like to see Ngatai starting,....... but it depends on his recovery from the concussion,...... doesn't look any good when the recovery begins to delay,....... Broadhurst, e.g., couldn't play any game this season,......

Incredible to see a player of Dagg's class not able to crack the team, even off the bench. What a luxury. And from the little I saw of him Ardie Savea is another terrific AB in the making....chasing down Jordaan from behind is impressive for a flank, so many players wouldn't have even taken on that assignment.

ABF, yes Ngatai must have a bad concussion - good to see they are resting him.
Glad Tuipulotu is back in the ABs after double his hip operation. TJ will get another chance to prove himself as TKB is still out with an injury.

Yes, Mozart, Dagg has a hard time breaking into the 23 but he will get a shot in this test series I would think, even if it's coming off the bench. It's good to see him playing so well in s18, he's got his mojo back.

Beeno will have to find another AB player to focus on.
Glad our tight 5 is unassailable
Of course our loose forwards are trying to show the wee Lions how to play the positions with mixed success I might add. We won't mention the wee stormers that would be too provocative.

Heck what wouldnt I give to see a Bok merit side with a merit selected coach whipping this haspless lot!
Thankfully ou warped DUD is not the coach as things would only be worse for the poor wee abs! See JW I often have the best interests of the hapless wee abs at heart!

Well Beeno, AB fans will support their team come hell or high water as the expression goes.
This new Boks team (once announced) will have a chance to start a new legacy & in spite of the whinging we hear from many of their "supporters" they have some good players & should do ok - one shouldn't be too enthusiastic... but one should try

No Dagg, no McKenzie, no Ngatai, no Whitelock ... ??
Crotty isn't a test centre ... as average as average can be ...
Both Ardie Savea and Barrett should have started.
Seems to me as though they're regressing. The force of yesterday has made way for this.
We at least have the excuse of enforced quotas hampering us.
Go Wales!!!!!!!

CC, Ardie is 89kgs and while he has fantastic potential he is a light weight so to speak for test rugby. Starting him off the bench is the way to go. His arrival in the last 20 mins will have a great impact as bigger players will be tiring & he has relative strength but mainly skills and speed. He will be a joy to behold.
Whitelock is injured, Grotty does well at test level but is a stop gap solution, Barrett is better off the bench but we will see how Cruden goes. Overall a very good team when you consider we are coming off another RWC championship win & we have SBW and some other real talent out of selection because of the Olympic 7s.

ABF

Thanks for the info.   A very good team – but just a question or two.   What happened to Sam Whitelock – is he injured?   Wonder why Harris is preferred ahead of Taylor as a hooker?

Based on performances this year in Super Rugby I think Kaino and Tuipulotu are very lucky to be included in the team.   I would have preferred  Todd ahead of Kaino.

The Tight 5 selections are with the possible exception of Whitelock the strongest available – very good in loose play – but not to my mind the strongest Tight 5 around in world rugby.   I also think that Crotty is lucky that Ngatai is not available.   I also prefer Moala ahead of him as inside center.

Maybe the latter was not considered playing for the Blues – because the Blues have been struggling this year as well.     Good players are often suffering because of deficiencies in the teams they represent on Super Rugby level.   I think that Kaino may have been selected on reutation rather than actual performances this year and Tuipolotu is lucky because of the general lock deficiency and the absence of Whitelock.

The team should be strong enough to deal with the Welsh easily and have my full support.   Give them at least a 15 point advantage over the  Welsh in the first test on Saturday.

No matter who they picked of the top 40 ABs there is no hope in hell of Wales beating them.
Beeno1 - please submit the research and proof of the allegations you make about World Rugby referees.  Make acquisitions without base proof is tantamount to slander and could well be frowned upon by the WR body.   However, should such proof exist I would gladly send this to them along with a copy of this thread.
It is so that some referees are seemingly incompetent when viewed from the one-eyed perspective, however blatantly being in the "pocket" refers to bribery and/or corruption which needs to be substantiated.

 I see your point, JW.
A stop gap is probably all Crotty will ever be.
He is solid on defence but that's where it ends. Let's face it, he doesn't have much of a step ... sadly lacks pace ... isn't strong enough to generate consistent go forward ... has no kicking game and in comparison to Nonu falls way short.
I guess if he's the best you guys have then well ... beggars can't be chooses ...
Sam Kane has had a number of seasons to stamp his authority down as your openside replacement for McCaw and to be quite honest with you, has no consistency ... seems to blow hot and cold.
Ardie may be a little small in comparison but he is deceptive strong in the upper body, reads the game a lot better, has an incredible work rate and as far as I'm concerned should be given as much time on the park as possible. He's a game breaker ... a wonderful talent. You want to keep him on the bench so that he can dazzle us in the last 20 ... I'd much rather have him dazzle us for 60 than 20.
Each to his own I guess.

Cruden ahead of Barrett? Hope it stays like that when we play them!

I've said before that the ABs have a problem at 2nd 5 now that Ma'a Nonu is overseas and Sunni Bill wants to play at the Olympics, much to the indignation of the Kiwis on this board who were incensed that I didn't rate plodders like Crotty and Ngatai as world beaters.

Having said that, even with Crotty at #12, no Barrett and no Damian McKenzie, that is still a formidable team . . . easily the best side in the world today.

Having an average 12 is a liability in itself

Wales will give us a good run for our money, especially in the first test.
Fortunately the ABs do not rely on one part of the team to win so even if the 12 spot (Crotty) is a weakness - I believe he is holding the spot for SBW but still will do the job - the ABs will find a way to win. There is enough talent across the team.

having Crotty a liability? WTF are you talking about?

Crotty is a very solid player, excellent defender and always taking the right decision in attack. He's not the one who's going to beat many defenders or break the lines many times in every match, like SBW, Feikitoa, DdA last year or M. Tuilagi can do (though he can also do it and in his best games he can match these players best stats) but the AB don't need the 5 backline players to be "world beaters".

They have enough firepower in players like Savea, Naholo, Feikitoa or even B. Smith. In the last years they have always played with, at least, one player who is more an organiser (C. Smith) and they've been the bests and the other teams' reference. They played even with both Crotty and C. Smith and put 51 on the aussies. By the way, if someone wants to watch how a 12 should play, watch what Crotty did in the first half of this game (Auckland, 2014).

very curious that all the saffas here rip into Crotty while singing Mapoe's praises,..... when Crotty is far better player

 JW,

Ardie Savea is 100 kg in both the wikipedia and the canes' site,....... comparing with other opensides:

- Jaco Kriel: 97 kg.
- Sam Cane: 103 kg.
- M. Hooper: 101 kg.

Well at least you agree that Crotty's nothing special, and that he's just there to make up the number due to a shortage of quality inside centres.
If you had better you would have selected them.
You don't so Crotty will just have to do till SBW decides to chase the mighty dollar once again by changing codes.
Go Wales!!!!!!!!!!

ABF  - I did not berate Crotty - I merely mentioned that to my mind Ngatai and Moala are better players than he is.   hat does n ot mean he is deficient - it merely means he is an adequate player - but hardly a game-breaker.

ABF, Ardie has beefed up gradually for sure but the AB site lists him at 89kgs. Maybe the stat is out of date.
Ardie Savea's weight
but in any case he's a fantastic player. Cane & others will wear down the opposition & when A. Savea comes on we will see something special. He has to start at some point but I think the coaches are managing him well.

Mach you are a relative newbie but insist on blundering on like a halfwit.Listen oak firstly I am not complaining about refs globally I really complain ubout crooked down under refs. There have been countless cases raised on this board by my honourable self and other and examples given on just how crooked they are. The panel examing cited players are as bad in the unfair treatment of SA players.I have no intention of attempting any rehash. Its as bad as the rigging of the GOP and Democrat elections. Only landslide wins gave Trump the victory. Most votes ever for a GOP presential candidate - by far.
Mach you need to understand your own severe  limitations (I fear we have another JW here - I am being a bit severe on poor Mach - Sorry M ach!)

...there is some truth in what yr saying but what about Crotty's hat trick against the Lions, (arguably the best Super Rugby franchise in SA) in Joburg this year...cracked yr beloved Lions team open more than once unfortunately...so Crotty does have his moments..

...also awarded Man of the match he opened the scoring within just 50 seconds, and added two tries within three minutes after half-time to push the New Zealand side into a 20-36 lead with half-an-hour to go...

Brycy - the Crotty performance against the Lions was a change from the normal - he was up against one of the weakest defenders in SA by the name of Mnisi and made hay .   In all other games of the Crusaders he was bog ordinary.

Wonder how he will ever be able to crack it for a win here and there one day .You saffas seem to be overly concerned about our boys ,some of you seem to think this team wouldnt hack it with your new team eh ? Hmm time will tell I guess .Jamming new caps in first up is not always  the smartest thing to do at times now is it ? Our coaches like to bring them on at their own pace and it seems to work OK for us .Think I will trust Hansen and company.

Crotty rises to the standard of the Black jersey when he plays as documented above by Brycy & others. The Boks should be so lucky as to have a Crotty in their team.
CC, always a sign of a weak argument when someone switches the subject to "how to speak the language". If I recall correctly Mozart gave you a few lessons on the meaning of "pun" & highlighted your incorrect use of your and you're. Still, sticking to rugby is a better idea.
