i think humbling is the wrong word, it was a very close game, sa scored on fulltime to take the win. Looking forward to the final, SA shld be favs, but Eng cld win. NZ shld beat Ireland to take Third place. And i dont think this shld be a precursor to any future test lvl games, not all international players curently all went through colt or Under 20 Lvl. Its dissapointing Nz lost, but some great players are coming through, Mckensie, at Fb ripped sa to pieces. Nz forwards particularly in the tight were just too small, loosies were alright. Our centres were pretty small too, and up agsingst a over 100 kg centre never going to be easy. Hey nz werent smashed, they were in it right till the end.

It was a very good game, really enjoyed it for its entertainment value. I think NZ is in a good place. They played a high risk game in tricky conditions. Just wish SA can get their ball handling skills up.
NZ will always be prone to counter attack, especially if they play from their own half.
Just hope we can keep the title in the Southern Hemisphere. England has some huge forwards that can compete with SA.

I think that Pollard is the real deal insofar as future Springbok selection is concerned. I think he is better than Morne by some distance - especially in attacking the gain line himself - he is a better playmaker than Steyn would ever be as well .
The other players that will knock on the door in future will be Schickerling and Esterhuizen. There may be others as well - Marx is unfortunately injured - but I see him as the future replacement of Bismarck.

What about the NZ TMO!! How many points did nz score as a consequence of that rotten yellow?
17 Jun 2014, 11:59#7
I have been following Pollard for the past 3 years now. Back when he replaced Tony Jantjies as a 17 year old. I think that he has the mental strength that you need from a world class player. Know how to make the right decisions under pressure.
I don't think it looks good for the AB's as they have failed to win the under 21 for the past 3 seasons, which is unheard of.
I think if you take the best of 2012 and 2014, then we have some real talent for the boks for the next 10 years.
Players that spring to mind are
JP Du Plessis, Pollard, Serfontein, Esterhuizen, William Small-Smith, Shekeling to name a few
17 Jun 2014, 13:57#8
Best match of the weekend.
Nearly threw it away the first half with some shoddy defense but pulled it together nicely in the last 40 with domination up front.
Esterhuisen is a monster. Why he had to make way for Fattie Fransie at the Sharks is beyond me.
Shickerling is another to watch.
England look to have a very physical pack. They are very impressive.
Gonna be a cracker that's for sure.
Think a hearty "well played" should go out to the Baby Blacks. They had me on the edge of my seat most of the match.
17 Jun 2014, 17:58#9
I think we've had some cracking games from the U20's
Not looking forward to the Final, but obviously hoping my lot do it and get back to back titles....that would be something ! That said, it's a huge ask
They have done very well to get this far and we have some real talent coming through. Am heartened by things as it goes.

We have beaten the AB Under 20's -
* in the Under 20 final in 2012;* in the play-off for third last year;* in the pool game this year; and* in the semi on Sunday.
I would say we have had real superiority among the forwards and if it was not for the unjustified yellow card of Esterhuizen - initiated and insisted upon by the NZ TC referee - the score line on Sunday would have been substantially different.
There is a serious deficiency developing in NZ rugby and that is their lack of quality Tight 5 players coming through.
I think we have a better team than we had last year and we have beaten England in the Pool game and then went sour. I do think they haave some good and strong forwards and there one wing is good - bt still beliereve a strong effort by our team will see them through.

awesome game to watch, other then the result, there was nothing about this edge on ur seat match that u couldnt love, and a big congrats to the baby Boks for a well deserved win.
our boys need to hold their heads up high though, cos they gave it their all. was very proud of them,. especially that fullback mackenzie who devoured every high ball and returned it with interest.
the NZ u20s team didnt have the same impact of the bench as the baby Boks, and when we needed somebody to step, we all looked too tired.
that kiwi hooker has got some real powered panache, but he too ran out of steam far too quickly.
pretty bad sunday for the uchiha clan result wise, was channel surfing during the u20s match and watching my magpies go down to the bulldogs in a massive upset, sigh :/

Welcome back. I like that full back McKenzie of the Under 20's - he really is special. Of the rest of the team I think Li is good and Leinart brown could also develop further. Hickety was in the pool game a bit panicky - but he is also one of my favourite NZ Under 20 players.
However, I think the NZ forwards put up a brace show in the first half - but I think - as you said - they ran out of steam halfway through the second half. I think that in the end they really had too much to do to win the match.

@mikey,
thankx brother mike, its good to be back,
i like tevita li too, but those breaks hes been making during the JWC have been in part due to younger less experienced opposition, u dont see too much of that from him at all during the spXV.
i didnt like anton lienart brown though, his decision making with some of his ball in hand options was putrid and annoying. on about 5 different occasions he took the wrong option of running when he should have passed and vice versa, or even just getting tackled and isolated against those big saffa lads.
ive heard ntohing but good things about him from NZ though, and i havent really watched as much NZ u20s full games as i should have (annoyingly just the two losses to ur boys, LMAO), but i have a poo load of highlights, so i sure he will shine at some stage.
good luck to the U20 boks team in the final, lets see if we can continue this beatdown that the south are giving those NH rugby pretenders across the board,
ur going to have ur work cut out for u though, that english team looks pretty mean.

There were a discussion on the Sky programme tonight in which they mentioned two issues:-
* The fact that they think Tevita Li should come into the All Black squad sooner rather than later as a potential wing - they do not think that Jane is really up to standard; and
* The yellow card of Esterhuizen - which they clearly said was nonsence.
That yellow card virtually donated 11 points to the NZ Under 20's and that could have swung the game. They should not use a New Zealander as a TV Referee and in this case he started the whole issue - when the referee was prepared to proceed with the game - but he insisted on a yellow card. That leaves a very sour taste in the mouth of many people and it was obvious that the NZ panel tonight on Sky shared that opinion.
Interesting enough they do not share the opinion that New Zealand is -n the wrong route in selecting players for the Under 2-'s and think England and SA is very wrong in teh way they go about player development. Rather surprised at that since the NZ players are considerably smaller than the SA and English players and cannot laast against them in the longer run.

@clevermike,
"The fact that they think Tevita Li should come into the All Black squad
sooner rather than later as a potential wing - they do not think that
Jane is really up to standard;"
i have no idea who said that tevita li should be in the All Blacks now, but thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard.
true that jane has been average for the All blacks, but i would select him 10 out of 10 times over tevita li easy without even thinking about it.
there are any number of wingers i would select ahead of tevita li, patrick osbourne, george moala, frank halai, tim nanai williams, tom marshall to name but a few.
would like to know who thinks that li should be in, cos it dosent sound like a kiwi, at least any kiwi who knows anything about the rugby landscape within NZ.
in fact, if the blues had a full fit team to pick from, tevita li wouldnt even make the blues 23,,,
9 b hall, 10 s hickey, 11 g moala, 12 m nonu, 13 f saili, 14 f halai, 15 c piutau
21 p weepu, 22 c noakes, 23 j willionson
this is a no holds bar strongest blues team possible with all blues player available, and that schmuck wants li in the All Blacks when we have the worlds best backs in every position already???
i dont think so.
"The yellow card of Esterhuizen - which they clearly said was nonsence."
yellow card was rubbish, it should have been a penalty for head high and nothing more.
true that the kiwi TMO gave an incorrect ruling, but the referee has the final say in the matter and could have overruled the TMO, especially as he originally had a different opinion which he was about to rule before asking the TMO if he agreed.
say what u will about steve walsh and craig joubert, but those two dont second guess nothing and have on a number of times disageed with the TMO and opted for what they thought was the correct ruling.
given the baby wahwahs always heard around the world about the refs (some places more then others, a lot more then others..... {niko sikileli}), its little wonder that the refs would rather take the safe route like that argie ref (i think) did and just let someone else make the tough decisions.
dont know agree that the yellow card virtually donated 11pts, thats a simple way of looking at it, especially when two peanlties were part of the equation.
had the Boks been more disciplined, they would only have conceded 5pts.
this is a clear cut case of the better team won on the day.
cards and bad ref calls are part and parcel of the game, a lesson everyone needs to learn, but IMO only the All Blacks truly understand.
the All Blacks vs the Boks in joburg saw the All Blacks beat the snot out of the Boks despite having two yellow cards in the game.
but going off on a different tangent now, i agree they should have had neutral TMOs, but as george ayoub proved last weekend, that dosent necessarily mean the neutral guy would be better.

The discussion was between Wilson, Kronveld and Jones and I think it was the latter to that supported that idea - while Wilson was rather quiet.
I agree with you about Joubert - to my mind he is the best referee in the game at present and he does not ref in a way that people remember the ref and not the rest of the team. After all the best referees are those who reffed games and people afterwards forget who the ref in fact was. Joubert is one of those.
I was wrong about thee 11 points - it was more likely 10 points. The resultant penalty the TV ref insisted on and the pone try where there was a serious gap as a result of the absence of Esterhuizen.
However, as you said the better team won and I have really no qualms about the issue - despite the fact there were quite a number of local news reports on that one.
If you are interested - you can google the news24 website and look for the rugby reports. That site caters for a lot of SA newspapers and have some interesting reports on rugby as well.

@mikey,
kamo has said some strange things in the past, but asking for li to be in the All Blacks based on solid performances in the JWC i just freaking absurd.
"After all the best referees are those who reffed games and people afterwards forget who the ref in fact was."
while i agree with u, i have heard a countless nummber of times from ur own countrymen how joubert is the reason the All Blacks have won so many matches.
its also fair to say that regardless of how well a ref does preform, if ur team loses then the ref is always going to get a blasting.
if u dont beleive me, just look at all the tests that meyers Boks have lost to the All Blacks, it was always the refs fault.

Wrong we lost the Dunedin test by missing 11 goal kicks. Not the refs fault. The consistent yellows dished out to opponents of the abs is becoming farcical. Meanwhile the abs avoid them when they should get them. Its ludicrous.
Re Joubert what is a fact is that he handed the WC to Nz.

Beeno: I have come across this translation program & will apply it to some standard words you use. So far this program translates as follows:
"It's the refs fault" = Boks lost again, well done ABs"Boks won all the stats" = Boks lost again, well done ABs
Reliability factor is 100% on this as in fact the ABs have won 16 games on the trot & only lost one game since the RWC 2011 so .... "well done ABs" is the correct translation for all your posts.
I will ask ED to set an algorithm in place & it will save us all a lot of time & some "minor irritation". I wonder if the translation program will translate "minor irritation"
Moz, patent is pending.

Hahaha. Nice one JW - another chuckler of a post
I would be remiss though if I didn't provide a translation program for some of you Kiwis' statements as well:
"they were too big and strong" = Boks won (but NZ played the better rugby)
"we played the better rugby" = Boks won (but only because they were bigger and stronger)
"attractive rugby" = Boks won (but if it was touchies NZ had it all the way)
"good players coming through" = Boks won (but NZ will win future games with the refs in the reffing academy that are currently on payroll)

Be fair here - the only way the match on Sunday was really affected was the insistence of the NZ TV referee who insisted that - even though the referee saw anything wrong with the tackle made by Etserhuizen - he be yellow-carded for a dangerous tackle and that a penalty be given to New Zealand. Unfortunately the match referee succumbed and did what the TV ref wanted.
Even on Sky News that decision was criticized severely by the NZ panel and it is clear that it was a serious attempt by the NZ TV ref to manipulate the outcome of the game. on Sunday. Despite that our Juniors still won. However, it was said that for matches of that importance neutral TV refs should be used and I hope it is done in future.
