good to see weepu back for the blues.

waratahs team dosent look as storng with alofa alofa and betham out, blues have a good chance, but kirwan the idiot chose to bench luatua???
jks selection policies are a joke, the snooer hes gone from the blues the better.

update

sharks have been updated,

im starting to think that having players who are starting that week on the bench is a must, especially for key high scorinbg positions like the frontrow, looseforwards, flyhalf and outsidebacks.

have played the last two rounds with only 14 men, and both rounds were cup challenge rounds and also from key positions, loosie and outside backs.

sigh, :/

 Rennie is changing 6 players this week. Last week they were another six and the week before 8. He is by far the coach who more changes makes.

No doubt he's one of the best coaches nowadays but his rotation policy could be excessive. No doubt also that SR campaign is quite long and some kind of rotation is necessary or at least recommendable but I think that a sort of balance btwin having an incumbent XV and the rotation have to be found.

These past seasons the crusaders did it quite well IMO. When Ben Franks was in the team his brother Owen and Crockett were the usual starters but he got some starts also. The same with Whitelock-Romano and Bird last season or Whitelock-Thorn and Romano some seasons earlier. It was clear who were the incumbent or usual starters but there were always some changes. There were some changes but not as many as 6 or 8 per week. So many changes could be negative in terms, for example, of team's consistency or can affect some players game.

At the start of the season Tawera KB had 3 outstanding games and then he was benched. When he was back to the starting lineup he had lost his form. What is impossible to know is if he was benced because he was losing the form or if he starts losing form once he was benched.
Rhys Marshall was playing quite well (except line-out throws) and suddenly he's not even in the 23 (could be injured but didn't read about it).

@basquefan,

i haved some serious issues with rennies rotation policy too, but his current track record plus the chiefs being on top of the NZ conference which is the hardest conference, makes it hard to argue that its not working.

ultimately i agree, the chiefs current rotation is too much and IMO its effecting thier performances which while storng, is nothing like their 2012 and 2013 performances.
a little bit of stability is needed to help players preform at a high level consistently, and this comes from synergy. and synergy can only be obtained through familiarity/consistent selections.

as it is, i do think rennie has chosen the storngest team possible from the list of available players. the only change i would have made was prob symons for filipo, but all in all the current spXV champs should leave canberra with a win.

One question though.   The website (home page) is the source where you find the teams initially - but not the home page of the Highlanders.  The latest news on that site relates to the team announcement for the Bulls game - ie nearly 3 weeks ago.  Nothing since then - not a match report, not a preview of the upcoming match - just zero.  One wonders why they maintain a website at all - is that reflective of the rugby thinking of the Highlanders?

@papamoa,

hmmmmmmmmm, o_O
dont quite share ur optimism, white is smart enough to not take on the highlanders via the backs, cos thats just suicide.

but the sharks do have one of the best all round games, they will play for territory and slowly grind down the highlanders ionto errors which frans long distance power ranger goal kicking boot will take full advantage off.

the forward battle will be interesting, kane hame and chris king have pout on powerful scrummaging performances in 2014, plus tru to kiwi form, between the two of them, they do more work around the field then the sharks tight 5 combined.
of course rthats assuming beast dosent play like he did last week and more like he has the last 3 years.

i think the highlanders chances of an upset win lie in the following
- our tight 5 at the very least gaining parity at the set pieces.
- lima sopoagas error rate around the field needs to be at an all time low
- lima sopoaga needs to goal kick the way he has all year
- nasi and ben smith must play smart rugby, go for gaol and take the points when they present itself

if all this is met, our backs will take care of the rest, big if though.

i have an interesting cup challenge opponent this round, a lot of different players in both our teams.

couldnt risk gambling on ged robinson to have a big game off the bench, and with crocket on the bench, will definately have to use one there, a forced change i dont mind considering ben franks is back in the house.

would liek to bring in a few new players this week, but havin g a full team playing is forcing my hand else where, :/

how is everyone else and their teams faring??? so many variables, with ur position on the ladder, head to head opponent and then the cup challenge.
its enough to make u go cuckoo, lolz,

I'm up against one of those infernal "Crusaders#" teams in the head-to-head and - like you - my Cup opponent has a lot of players different to mine.
Then there's still T estrugby and Superbru to worry about!

My Cup opponent is no slouch so it will be a close call this week (he has 3,397 team points and I have 3,346). My team is ok - not great, it will all get down to performance on the day and injuries. Our teams are quite different also (about 4 starters were the same last week).Good luck to our Sarugby.com posters.
In the head-to-head I am up against Qwaggas whoever he/she may be. Our overall points are not too far apart. Our teams are also quite different. Rooinek hamered me last week, lol
