Finally, he has delivered scores that could help his side pull off a win. Long time since his last assist in winning a test.
Trust you noted the number of balls he faced and the time spent at the wicket. I know it is not ODI but man is he a slug at the crease.

Salaam Hashim ..... form is temporary, class is permanent. Btw he came in during the 6th over in the 1st & the 8th in the 2nd, nogal hitting a six in both innings .

He made the 2 in 7 innings - so the nit case talk about him being dropped. Hope he keeps up making runs - we will see what happens in the other two tests.

Amla for a long time was number 1,2 and 3 in ranking as a test batsman, but he dropped down to number 9 and after the latest test he is back at number 7.
That confirms my statement that he was not consistent over the last year and although he makes good scores - like happened in the 2nd test over the past weekend - he was far too inconsistent previously.
I hope he continues with his performances in the remaining two tests - but am not confident that it will happen.

I am curious
What do you take into account when debating if a player like Amla should be dropped?
If any of my national players remained in the top 1 to 15 positions in the world rankings... year after year after year....., how would that equate to possibly dropping them if they dropped to 9 like Amla did.
Surely you would not consider dropping a player because he went from 1-2-3 in the world down to 9th?
If that is the criteria you use.... it is ludicrous.

Amla averages a fraction under 50. You don't drop players like that easily.

Let me explain something you lot do not understand. I never said Amla should be dropped - that is the first rubbish emanating as per normal from Mozart.
My problem is he is inconsistent. Some good scores followed by poor ones. That is the reason for his drop in ratings as indicated above. The problem is when the low scores are more numerous than the high scores and that has been Amla's problem over the last year,
Unlike you my criterium for selection is PERFORMANCE - yours obviously is age and reputation.

I think that is just common sense that his ratings will change Mike, we all knew he struggled a bit, but still, you make it even more confusing with your previous statement below.

Amla built up an average of 55 rpi and it now came down to 49 - in other words there seems to have been a decrease in points scored. I would never suggest that he be dropped from the test team and never did.
I really think there is a problem with the openers - Elgar with his terrible technique - is OK - but not the ultimate answer. Cooke and Kuhn are not the answer. I would say the openers should be Markham and De Bruin. If they bat longer Amla would do better too - otherwise they should perhaps let him bat at 4 or 5.
