An 18 years-old and 135kg Prop who runs like a wing

Much ado about nothing. We have seen this all before. In fact, at under 14 level, I played with a kid named Alan. Monster kid and would often run with a kid or 2 in his back. He played at lock. Tall and big! Against the lesser teams he would be a game winner by himself. One game he scored 8 tries against a development touring team from Zululand. Against the top rated schools in Durban that knew how to tackle, he was much less effective.
Then we all grew up. We all moved through the ranks to open age group and senior rugby. Unfortunately, Alan just never grew much bigger. He was so reliant on his size that it got to his head. By opens level, he was no better than anyone else. Still a big chap but nothing special.
Same will happen with this kid. He will just get fatter. I notice he spends a lot of time on the wings and at fullback. By playing him, you are in fact losing a prop! A grafter! I can assure at provincial level he will not replicate any of this. His game will need to transform into that of a tight forward. A prop. He will need to work a lot harder in the close quarters where he won't have space to free his legs and when he does, he will be an easy tackle.
Enjoy it while it lasts but my initial thoughts are that we have seen this all before. I say it again and remember his name. Much ado about nothing!

 Based on your post Bok i hope he goes on to proove you wrong haha, trying to label him is not smart, you may end up with egg on your face. Besides everything you said goes without saying, but you dont have too take the fun out of the awesome trys, you dont always have to go all real.

Great prospect! Does not have the pace of a wing though, on the second try the fullback tried to tackle him, missed, turned around and reeled him in again in about 20 metres. Still, he is pretty special physical specimen, with a good step, good dummy and good pace for his size. 
It is unfortunate that he will no doubt be stolen from Tonga by New Zealand who will then claim him as their own.

Nz are of course notorious exploiters of Islander talent. OZ are now climbing in as well and hence i have always said watchout for OZ in the future as they are bound to overtake nz. If we get our house in order the future world order could be Boks, OZ and then nz?

That kid is fat already and the youngsters are scared of him, put him in a senior side and they will eat him for breakfast........a big breakfast

 well, this guy is an 18 years-old schoolboy so, yes, he has no doubt too much to learn and practice if he wants to arrive somewhere in the profesional rugby. It's sure that if he doesn't develop other skills like scrummaging or tackling (which I ignore he has or not because I just watch this video of him) he'll remain as a promise.

But with 135kg his running skills are f*cking awesome and very unusual. His pace, acceleration (clearly shown in the 3rd try when he received the ball being stopped and left everybody behind), his ability to dummy or to fend in run, etc. are exceptional. If he's well managed, and he's in the right place for this to happen, NZ, he could be a very special prop. He doesn't need to grow more or to get more weight, he's already a freak of the nature and his 135kg would put him btwin the heaviest props of the Super Rugby.

He has already spent 4 years in NZ so all the rugby he's learnt, he's done there. There would be nothing wrong iff he continues through all the structure of the NZ rugby and finish as an AB.
It's amazing how quickly are the saffas trying to take out all the negatives before the possibility of him being an AB

 I had thought the ab wings are faster than tubby. He should loose about 15 kg and who knows me may yet make a wing? Dont think though he has the intrinsic pace.
130 kg will be the norm for props in about 5 years time?

 If we can keep this boy away from taros and KFC he could be a freakish talent in a year or two.He's most welcome to try out for the ABs having being reared in Tonga, one of many AB nurseries in commission!

 Sorry to disappoint you all BUT the kid wants to play for.....get this.........the Wallabies. Why??????? you ask me. BECAUSE (and this from his brother who works in Sydney) because more Tongans play for the Wallabies mmmmm hasn't he heard of Jonah Lomu? and Doug Howlitt? and Sione Lauaki? and Benji Marshall?  

Hacked waaaugh the Islanders should for a combined side and gain entrance to the 4 Nations.

Hakwa: The wobblies already have players with speed & good ball handling skills. Wouldn't he have a better shot of making it in a Boks team?

 I worry when he is already looking at his taped wrists after scoring those tries and looking in the cameras and making sure they film him kissing his taped wrists as if he is preparing for the big time/league . I reckon that kissing of the wrists should be an instant yellow card or disallowing of previous try.

All the rugby he has learned, he has done so in NZL?? Guys, he is fat. He is only getting fatter and he knows nothing about forward play! Please read Saffex post!! Put him in any senior side and breakfast is served! 

 I see he scored another hattrick yesterday.....bring him to the Mighty Chiefs where he will get the best coaching the world can offer!!Hakwa, a Sunday Times article this morning has his manager saying there's no way Tupou is leaving NZ so obviously conflicting reports on his future. The poor kid is apparently overwhelmed by all the attention so I hope someone close to him is keeping those big feet firmly planted.The Boks will be praying he never fronts up in an AB or Wallaby jumper, that's for sure!
