Here we find Allende is at 12, Kriel at 14....Brussouw is playing not Louw. There is no Matfield, no Jannie and the dream pairing of Etzebeth and Lomp are locking the scrum. Brussouw and Coetzee, much favoured by the Barking Dogs flanked the scrum.

The only maligned old guard players are Pienaar and Jean. But they lost at home.....by 12 points. The Bargies put 37 points on us. And the prescription is to trend back towards this team.

How incredibly knee jerk. I hope HM can stand up and not play the popular piper. We lost because we had no intensity, because we weren't playing the part of Springboks. We lost because we rationalized poor performance....didnt demand better instantly. Jean and Matfield were bemused leaders when we needed angry passionate ones.

We have gone back and forth among so many players, less change is better than more change now. Leave the pack as it is, but bring back Etzebeth and Vermeulen. Bring back Pollard, Willie  and JP. Five solid changes....already too much but these are some of our best performers. And demand performance....no  feeble kickoff chases, softly contested mauls, white glove tackles and uncontested lineouts. Hell it was a shocker to see the Japs whose tallest man was at average Bok forward height winning uncontested lineouts.

And how about a few tackles that look like they are meant. The way the Bargies scythed down the AB backs put our feeble tackling in even worse light....no high pawing like Kriel at the death, decisive low tackles that stopped progress.

It's time for some theory X management...theory Y is not working.

If you for one minute think that Victoria Missfield deserves another shot you have a serious problem.
Suggest you treble your medication at one hour intervals.
Get someone to record the games in future and play them back to you over and over until you get the message.

The team that lost against Japan on Saturday was all of Meyer's and your favourites - but they were in the main piss poor.   At least Argentina is a rated team - Japan is not.  If they play the same team against Samoa - as suggested by you elsewhere - a loss against Samoa is a definite.   When will you ever realize that reputation selections of players without the required performances is a sure recipe for disaster?
I suppose never - because you have no idea about player evaluation.

The spine of the team that lost to Japan has more of your favourites Michael. All it needed was Damian and four more conceded tries to reach your standards.

Sorry - but you are talking crap.  I wrote extensively on this site about what was wrong in the team on Saturday and went so far as to say that a narrow win would be a disaster for the WV campaign.  Even I could not foreseen a loss - despite Meyer's sh!t selections.
I was in fct and remain of the opinion that Meyer's squad selection was a disaster an we will continue to suffer because of it.  The spine of the team that includes the following was what i criticised and they all with rare exceptions failed:-
Kirchner, JP (on the bench), De Villiers, Pienaar, Alberts (the original selection), Louw, Matfield, Jannie, Beast,   That is nine of the 23 players.   I suggested that the whole team was a standard Meyer flop selection and most players were way below par in performance.
I set high standards in practice - you carry on theorising about deficiencies in players you dislike - so my advice is don't pollute the site with your deluded theories.   Or rather keep on doing it - it is always good fo r a laugh.

The team that lost to Japan is clearly not the way to go either! I don't know where to start in naming all the naive blunders made by the coaching staff and senior players. This whole campaign leading up to the RWC was a disaster from the get go back in 2012. Too late to do anything about it now. Too much have been left to chance. We might still recover from this, but this should not have happened in the first place.
Edit: Auto correct made "senior" "serious" Fixed it. Pity the Bok picks can't be fixed as easily!

Haaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahaaaa ... quite right, Draad!!

We should not have struggled against Japan at all.

We have more than a 100 years of rugby history to our name ... we are a two time world champion and at one stage in time the only threat to the All Blacks.

Japan on the other hand are relatively new to the game and by rights aren't in our league ... we should have dismissed them easily by running 50 - 60 pts past them.

We have become so used to losing to the lesser teams that we're actually considering Samoa a threat.

It's no longer a "OH MY GOD ... WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED HERE???" ...

but rather "we just need to bring Etzebeth and Vermeulen into the pack which should remain as is and include the very solid Willie, JP and Pollard and all will be well against Samoa" ...

Our main competition is no longer the top tier teams of the world.

Samoa, USA, Scotland and Japan are threats that can send us home early.

It's hysterical.

My grandfather would roll over in his grave if ever he head of this nonsense.

Everyone is talking about this player or that player or the team should look like this or that. The real problem is that neither Meyer nor anyone involved in the management of the team seem to have any clue how to manage an international side or a campaign like this.
The Boks is the only WC team who didn't play at least one preparation match in the last 5 weeks. They picked a squad full of players either injured or recovering from injury and short on game time. They engaged the team in a murderous fitness routine before the lost Argentina test. Then they go into the Japan game with no plan beyond "run them over". Who are these people and how much are they getting paid for this nonsense?
Outsmarted by Ireland. By Wales. By Argentina. By NZ. And now by Japan.
I see some still have faith in Meyer. I don't. The Boks have been getting steadily worse on his watch for at least two seasons now. If we progress any further in this tournament it will be sheer dumb luck.

IMO DbDraad and Pakie are right:

"Everyone is talking about this player or that player or the team should look like this or that. The real problem is that neither Meyer nor anyone involved in the management of the team seem to have any clue how to manage an international side or a campaign like this. "

"They picked a squad full of players either injured or recovering from injury and short on game time."

"This whole campaign leading up to the RWC was a disaster from the get go back in 2012. Too late to do anything about it now."

As I wrote in another thread:
Meyer's building of the team has been disastrous for the last 4 years, his unconditional bet for an old guard that is not up to test level which implied neglecting the promotion of the youngs who could be their replacements gave the result of a team made of a mix of oldies-not up to test level and inexperienced youngs."

The build-up and management of the team couldn't have been worst. The answer isn't blaming the players who lost against Japan (or as some here do, blaming the players they don't like) and change them for others. For example, Lambie,.... he had a bad day no doubt, but is he responsible for the loss? I don't think so. He hardly could have done any better when the first receivers were Burger or Matfield and each time he open the ball to the backline JdV went straight against the defensive line for being very easily stopped or carried backwards. And is Pollard the answer? I doubt it very much. He was sidelined coz he was still green and completely out of form as he has been for the whole season.

I doubt there's any solution, at least an easy one, but if there's one it would have to recognize the mistakes made. The biggest one IMO to firmly believe that JdV and Matfield could manage the boat.
JdV has been sidelined for a year and has had zero gametime. At his age is imposible that he regains any form before the WC is finished. This is not anything new, it could be seen long time ago, coming back from these so long injuries need a lot more gametime to regain the form (it toook almost one year to Carter).
Matfield at 38 is not physically up to test level, as simple as this.
Both are burdens for the team as it was seen against Japan. Matfield weakens the tight5 and the forward pack itself while JdV weakens the backline. IMO any solution would have to include the sideline of both.
Besides there are good replacements for them in the team. Etzebeth-Lood as locks and de Allende-Kriel as centers.

There are some other oldies past their best long time ago. Burger, Louw, Alberts, Jannie, FdP, JP,.... but the selection is what it's (cannot be changed except for injuries) and very few can be made.
The selection was so badly made that there's no openside in the team, a truely openside like Brussow. So what can be made when the team is losing the breakdowns?
very few.
The scrumie is another spot with dificult solution. I doubt FdP can hold on the whole tournament at good form,.... but he's the only posible solution,....

definitively, there's no easy solution and Meyer is not going to surprise,..... he'll stick with his old guard

The players don't select themselves ... sure. In the end the coach is to blame for it all.

Bad management from the onset. No vision for the future. Living in the past and refusing to change his mindset.

Favoritism ... old friends are first in line.

Still, if a player isn't suited to top tier test matches, he will surely be blamed for his poor performance and rightly so.

The solution is easy enough.

Fire the incompetent coach and bring someone else in through a proper screening process. Don't just select someone who promises to include the right amount of quotas in each team.

There has to be a set of parameters put in place.

For example ... overseas players do not qualify ... a vision and building for the future ... proper management of the team ... but to mention a few

When last have the All Blacks had a really poor coach?

Can your poorest of coaches ever compare to Heyneke Meyer or Pieter De Villiers or Rudolf Straueli???

Let me remind you that these are the coaches we've had in the last decade.

If you had selected them for the All Blacks and they produced 5 wins in 14 matches, including a loss to Japan, what would have happened to them?

You don't even have to answer me cause I already know.

It's an uphill battle ... but it doesn't have to be ... all you need is to select the right coach who follows certain principals and things will fall in place.

Look let me make it simple for you.....the guys never fronted. They werent there to play a rugby match. You can take any combination of the players we have over there and they should thrash Japan every time. I didn't like some of the selections, you didn't like some of the selections....that wasn't the problem. The problem was between the players' ears and for that HM, his coaching staff and our two captains have to take the blame.

Now suddenly it is the fault of the coach and captain - but what about those players who did not front up?   The only player you only slightly queried was Kirchner - you did not question anyone else.  You did not know before the game the fact that Alberts the useless was injured - and replaced by Du Toit - since there was no query in that regard by you on this site.
Why did the other 13 players not fronted?  Did it have to do with poor selections of has-beens and never-has-beens as widely mentioned in the local media?  Why did so many of the "golden oldies" not front up or fronted up for 20 minutes and vanished from sight - do they have the stamina to compete?

Wrong Moz......Eddie exposed the Bok side for what it is.....a bunch of geriatrics who are past their sell by date. Something I have been pointing out for months.

The current record of 5 wins in 13, the slip in rankings and now this disgraceful result confirms what everyone bar an ignorant few have been saying all along.

Selecting a starting 15 with 11 thirty pluses in it, add Mvovo at 29 is an insult.....much like the loss to Japan was - worst day in Bok history thanks to clueless Meyer.

But sadly you will continue to support this clown along with pathetic selections like Kirchner, Mvovo, Jean, Morne, du Preez, Pienaar, Jannie, Brits, Matfield, Louw and Alberts and you will have to continue apologising for your blind faith in a bunch of losers.

The only 30 plus who merited a positive word was Schalk

Habana, Beast and Bismark still have a role to play.....the rest should be nowhere near the squad.

Eddie made clueless Meyer look the fool he really is.....the writing has been on the wall for the past 18 months

Wake up man

No Pervert....I queried Kirchner, Lambie, Stephanie, Kolisi and Coenie. I would have played none of them.

Matfield, Schalk, Jannie and Louw.... vs...Lambie, Kriel, Coenie, Kolisi and Stephanie.

Old vs New. The Boks were down in their 22 because of a stupid Coenie penalty. They had no direction until Pollard replaced the pathetically passive Lambie. The final try was scored because of a Kriel error. We could have had a push over try against us if Jannie hadn't twice drilled his opponent after coming on to replace pathetic Coenie.

And you have the gall to tell me the old guys lost it....get real.

oWell - you are the only person who defends the older players and try and exonerate them from the nasty truth.   Take for instance the following:-
*   Jannie du Plessis - he was playing well for about 25 minutes and then vanished from sight.   He did squat the rest of the game while on the field of play.
*    Pienaar's service was slow and pathetic - passing to Burger more than he passed to the flyhalf.
*    Matfield did squat in the Tight 5 - so his work was to be done by Du Toit - look at Du Toit in both rolling maul tries -  Du Toit had to do both the work of a lock - when Matfield virtually throughout the game was moonlighting in the backline.
*    De Villiers is not match-fit.  His ball carries was totally ineffective and his passing game pathetic.  Not ready for test rugby,
*    Bismarck has an off game - his main contribution was donating four penalties to the Japanese you moan about Coenie's one penalty - what about Bismarck's four?
*    Was Louw in fact playing - not sure, he was nowhere near the action.
*    Burger tried his utmost, but he is not a good enough ball carrier and spilled way too many balls.
*    Beast did the Jannie thing - played for 16 minutes and vanished from site.
You obviously did not see anything of the above - hence your defense of the pathetic performance by the players mentioned.   It is easy to identify the younger players, find fault with them and close your eyes for the rest of the non-productive flops.
So have another look at the game and for once watch out what the older players were up to.

I is not repetition - it is the truth you refuse to face.   That is the problem - discussion of anything with you is impossible - because you turn everything positive into a negative and when you are presented with the truth you ignore it.
Your way of trying to protect the under-performance of players you support is a joke.     Butr at present you are in a bad position and the only hope on your part is that the Springboks wins the game on Saturday against Samoa - but that will never be possible if we refuse to recognise that the under-performers keep going on their merry way.

No Seb the only person speaking a load of utter fucking rubbish is Moz....in his eyes we lost because of the youngsters in the side.....sounds about as pathetic as actually losing to Japan is.
Fact is that thanks to the team made up of 10 thirty plus year olds and Mvovo at 29 we were made to look like fools....when in reality given we were playing Japan we should have been 30 points ahead at half time.
Blaming the Coenie card or Jessie miss smacks of pathetic desperation. In reality Moz is smarting for yet again in more ways than one he has been exposed for his rugby ignorance and blind faith in a loser like Meter and players like Matfield, Jean and co.
Hell if Moz can't admit defeat after his choice of side loses to Japan, yes Japan then you know there is no honour or substance in the man.
But fact is his credibility is as low as Meyers....after this result they have nowhere to hide. The joke is on them.
Imagine still baking clueless Meyer after this or supporting utterly useless players like Jean, Pienaar, Jannie, Matfield and Louw. Sad really but also very funny.
