To my mind Erasmus made a mistake in dealing with the squad selection of the Springbok for the WC in 2023. He should have included Venter in his squad for the WC as a hooker - Fourie was never a real alternative as hooker. There was a problem when Mbonambi was to be replaced in the final and that was a near disaster for the Spring boks when he was forced to bring on Fourie as a hooker. leaving the forwards in disarray. There were no other alrternativess that forced him to bring in Pollard as a result of goalkicking deficiency and that left the Springboks with only Mbonambi as the only hooker in he squad. However nobody could really foresee that Mbonambi would be injured tw minutes into the final - but if Venter was in he squad originally the problem would not have arisen,
However in any WC squad here would always be 3 hookers in the squad and F ourie would nver have made he squad has he was no a hooker altenative.

The standard world Cup squads are nade up of 14 Backline players and 17 front line players. That is fuirther dvided by inclusion of 6 props and 3 hokkers and the oher playes ae normally 7 locks and loosies,
The 14 front line players ae made up of 3 scrummies and 3 flyhalfs with the rest of the other 11 players being spread betwen the back three triangle, th cnetrs and the flyhalfs.
Rassie actualy change th situation when it came to th forwards and that was th e prolem that eventually became problmatic when Marx was injured early - eaving only i specialist hooker in the side..
The talent is coming from everywhere....long may it go on.
I think Rassie is related to Fourie that's how he was selected "as a replacement in case hooker".

Deon Fourie was one of our best players in the whole RWC, especially in the final...he should have played many more tests for the Boks...great player...the fire in the Stormers team too.
