Minute 27.02 of the second Irish test (that’s called a time stamp (sic)). Kwagga carries to the Irish 3 meter line. Porter secures the ball for Ireland and Dud Toit who has missed the tackle….moronically tackles him from the ground right in front of the ref.

Dud follows that up at minute 36 by barging the kick receiver….penalty and 3 more points for Ireland. Ten potential points so far, 3 for sure.

By the way Dave in those 10 minutes our starting unit got 2 scrum penalties against Ireland. Apology?

I love the way when Dud tackled the man off the deck, the commentary immediately gives us tackle counts for Dud in the WC….just in case the groupies noticed his blunder. As brain washing goes, not even subtle.

He does, however, make an excellent tackle on Doris before the half

And after a brilliant break by Sacha at the start of the half,  Ireland repel our toothless running on the line and clear. And of course Dud Toit immediately loses his lineout….why the blue blazes don’t the press see these crucial mistakes.

Really lousy tackle on Marx gets Doris a yellow card….that could have been Marx’s knee for the year. Pollard nails the kick and we are within 4. Eluckmiss is getting nervous and replaces Kolisi at minute 50.

‘Du Toit wants it and he wants to carry’….easily brought down after a meter. The hype is endless.

Ireland offside….Pollard goes 5 out of 5….it’s a one point game.

Minute 53…Lowe steps Dud with ease, no commentator acknowledgement. The Boks eventually get the ball and Snyman shows what Dud should be doing with the ball…a brilliant offload springs Kwagga. Boks get another penalty…Boks in the lead. Kwagga returns the favor.

Ireland scrum is dominated again….Pollard makes it 8 out of 8..he kept us in this game. But as the final score shows we also needed Lady Luck in the WC.

Ireland gets a crucial drop and trail by only 2. The Genius is on it though….providing lots of instructions, no risking Dud Toit at the back of the lineout now!

Minute 77.30 van Staden gets the ball and loses it in contact, unforgivable with a 2 point lead. From here Ireland start their march.

From the following scrum on their 25 Ireland do a simple ’Sexton’ wrap around which fools Dud Allende and Kriel and crucially kick it out on the Bok 22. Sacha mistakenly catches the ball which was going out…fatal mistake number 2.

The Irish win their lineout and take a few phases. The Irish runner falls right at Dud’s feet. He makes no attempt to steal the ball, or counter ruck and actually steps back…..the ball is quickly recycled and should have been contested. It goes to Crowley who makes the drop. Game over.

Dud Toit had a weak  game conceding two damaging penalties, missing tackles, losing his lineout, running toothlessly without ever offloading and failing to contest the last crucial ruck but yet…

‘ 7 Pieter-Steph du Toit: Yet another peerless performance from the world-class back-row. It was a poor first half from the Boks overall, but that was not Du Toit’s doing as he hammered into the Irish attack, applied pressure with every opportunity and was absolutely everywhere. His tackle on Caelan Doris before half-time was simply outrageous and a game-changer. 8

The only thing about that performance which was peerless was the hype.
