Remember just the other day I asked the question why Eben Etzebeth always gets a free pass on this forum no matter how ineffective he is or how badly he screws up?

Here's a pr actical example . . . in the build up to Will Jordan's early try, Etzebeth misses a basic tackle on Codie Taylor while Taylor is crabbing sideways, Taylor then straightens up and gets into his stride and Lood de Jager gets to him but fails to hold on. That is what happened, right? Well, just go look at the match thread and check out Pakie blaming Lood for missing the more difficult second tackle but not even mentioning the more critical (and easier) first tackle that Etzebeth misses. Not long after that, Etzebeth carries forward but then loses possession . . . no mention at all . . . but when Lood carries forward and is stopped, Pakie mentions that he loses some ground . . . no matter that he still retained possession, but no mention at all of Eben giving the ball away . . . and no mention a bit later when Eben concedes a penalty.

Etzebeth won a single lineout steal in the game which is about all he has in the credit column, otherwise he was completely and utterly ineffective, permanently off the pace, coughing up possession, missing tackles and giving up penalties . . . not to mention getting an amusing dressing down from the ref for yelling at him and  then trying to pretend he was shouting at someone else. But hey, wait for the rugby noobs like Omlett and Omellete to give us their ratings and they'll be giving Etzebeth an 8 and droning on about another world-class performance.

Lood de Jager completely outshone Etzebeth and had an excellent game and it was Etzebeth subbed off before an hour because of his total lack of impact or influence . . . but on this forum, we'll be hearing all about the magnificent Etzebeth and the useless Lood!

Not having a pop at Pakie alone here, it's most of the posters who have this slow, lumbering plodder as some kind of superstar while yapping away at the many locks who outplay him on a regular basis.

Must just add, hard luck Bokke, we lost but that was more like it. Much more passion and intensity.

Congrats to the All Blacks.

Lood, with the tackle radius of a biscuit, had a good shot, but exhibited his usual biscuit tackle radius. He was exposed by the Wallabies for his poor mobility and it was on show again. We have a nothing lock, who is one of the weakest defenders and carriers in the team without any skills, masquerading as a modern day lock. Eben is tough, strong, mobile, skilled, competitive. Lood would be better of hanging around karaoke bars doing Paul McCartney impressions.

Now its Rooitwit schooling the Org. It doesn't get much worse than that.

Trouble is one the org gets into his head the idea that a player is bad that player can be named world rugby player of the year and it means nothing. EXTREME bias and the inability to be objective is the problem.

I have listed the production for both players and posted videos. What have any one of you done to refute them? Neither player has the production of a world class player. It's that simple. The coaching team are being given a pass, and the worst players in the team are being given a pass. Quite interesting that so much is wrong, yet so few people are to blame. Only Mostert, Orie and now Eben. Ridiculous. You Plastiks are easily brushed aside. It's so easy it isn't even fun anymore.

The Etzebeth tackle was side on while rushing forward…he hardly made contact. Lomp was front on, a much simpler tackle and he made good contact but couldn’t hang on because he is weak in the upper body.

What a noob you are Peeper

Case closed.

Well Pakie watches on a crappy stream of about 360p that gets stuck and needs refreshing constantly. So I don't see everything and couldn't identify the other player who missed in that move. That's why I said Lood missed the final tackle, inferring there were others before. But it's just about the same thing Mostert has been lambasted for since 2019 for the tackle he missed on Lienert-Brown.

I comment on bits and pieces of the game, not every single error or play and usually only when there's a break in play. Didn't comment on Eben's penalties, but I also didn't comment on Lood's 3 penalties conceded or 2 turnovers lost. Everyone is free to join in the live commentary and call what they see.

Pakie, you're sounding a bit defensive there. I went out of my way to make the point that I'm not having a pop at your comments specifically, just pointing out the known fact that Eben gets a free pass on this forum while the locks who outplay him on a regular basis are vilified.
Lood was by far the better of our locks today and it was no surprise that he played the full 80 while Etzebeth was subbed before the hour mark. To see Lood now getting the same one-eyed and ignorant trashing that Pieter-Steph gets all the time is nothing short of pathetic. If Omlett, Omellete and the other fervent adherents of the Church of Eben Etzebeth can't admit that their man had a poor test today then it's pretty obvious that they'll never be capable of rational thought when it comes to their idol.
I'd have Etzebeth in my Springbok match 23. I'm not saying he's a crap player . . . he's just not the superstar that many here believe and will always believe . . . no matter the mounting evidence to the contrary.

So let’s look at the evidence :

E EtzebethL3610L JagerL21030
Etzebeth turned over the ball one more time than Lomp….but Lomp tackled at a 77% vs Etzebeth who tackled at a 86% rate.
Etzebeth conceded 1 penalty vs 4 from Lomp.
Lomp stole a lineout but Etzebeth made a crucial steal when a try was  likely.…..
And Etzebeth had a poor test and Lomp a good one? Ja maybe a poor test by Etzebeth’s standards and a good test for Lomp by his standards.
