Another loss to SA rugby

Dave unfortunately the losses are only going to increase as the Rand is worthless and if you are white your chances of representing SA are growing slimmer by the day.

Who can blame the players who follow the money and stand a chance of representing their adopted country.

Professional sport is all about money and fame. So it goes without saying that if you have the goods why waste your time playing for peanuts and the option of going nowhere.

AJH is right about the Rand value issue, but there is an even more important issue here,   Rupert and Motsepe (Ramaphosa's brother-in-law) recently jointly took over ownership of the Blue Bulls.  Both are $ billionaires and incredibly wealthy,   They have the money to ensure that key players are paid properly and not leave SA.

The answer is to take the bankrupt SARU out of the picture and privatize the ownership of  franchises - especially the 4 Super Rugby franchises and the Cheetahs and Kings and let the owners contribute to player salaries based on proven performance and potential.   

It will not stop the departure of players from SA - but will reduce the impact substantially,   Some players will not leave SA since their families are very wealthy anyway - so the extra help will keep them in the country as well.   Others are already sponsored by Rupert - eg Willemse and Hershel Jantjies - and is unlikely to leave as well.                 

The darker players will benefit from this ... the talented white boys will have to leave if they want to further their careers.

Mike you are clueless. Player selection is based on skin colour, Transformation, Quota,  call it whatever your heart desires, on that basis the white player is rejected because he has the "wrong" skin colour. In effect he is not wanted which leaves him no option but to go overseas as we've come to witness. CC is perfectly correct in what he says " the talented white boys will have to leave if they want to further their careers."
