Yes, i agree, however, I could make a case for Jean but that aside isn't it glaringly obvious that with those selections Meyer has shown his hand? By the way, that's almost half the team!

Spies should go end of. @ Saffex, go easy on Jean bro, the old horse still has it, just a little bit. I agree on the list you've presented there, we have better players than that.

Yes that's half the team, hence why we have been so damn poor against average opposition. That coupled with an out of touch game plan. Meyer is clueless and taking us nowhere.

Spies has been an unfulfilled promise. I laughed when I saw that clip of a bare chested Spies doing sprint training during his layoff. Our booitjies do love their supermen. Now at last he is a pariah among fans. But not before many, some on this string, were adamant that he was the business. I myself was always a sceptic.

The best comment I have seen on this site is that "Spies is built like Tarzan and plays like Jane". He should not be near the Springbok squad as no 8 and is one of Meyer's worst selections imaginable.
In the main I think Meyer makes dicey selections and then expect miracles from the players he selects - with very little of value in return. The epitome of Meyer's stupidity in that regard will be if he makes Spies captain for Saturday.

spies had some good games in spXV, food runs that got the bulls over the advantage line and along with hi experience and the being the riglht colour (jersey wise of course) his selection wasnt a surprise, nor should it be when IMO he will be selected again against samoa.
hes still a million times faster then fat boy vermeulen, but too soft, especially when it comes to getting in there and helping out the boys with the grunt work. its a real shame, cos we all know he can do it, could it be a mental hurdle or something???
BTW anyone know when vermeulen due back???
theres still enough depth in the loosies for meyer to ry something else, personally i would like a loosie trio of 6 louw, 7 labuschange, 8 coetzee 20 alberts/kolisi.
but meyer will most likely play it safe, especiallya gainst samoa who have been the most impressive team in the quad sereis.

saSUE I read somewhere that Vermuelen was expected back by RC time.
A useful loose trio ould be Louw, Vermuelen and Labuschagne. Quite a nice balance to it.

So there, no-one on here is game enough to front up with support for Spies......not even die hard Bulls fans. Clearly that says it all. Attention should shift to the reason(s) for his selection ,some would say there isn't any, my concern though is that the clueless Meyer has one.....just like he has for another half a dozen or so Clayton Boks.

I am a Bulls fan, and when Spies arrived on the scene in 2006-07 I thought he was the business. Then came the kak with his lungs, and he never regained that form again. He has had some good runs, but I believe those have dried up because the opposition simply close him down. With ball in hand he still has something to offer, although, even that portion of his game has been below par lately. It is his work in the loose that has turned me from being a fan into a critic. Good leader, but I reckon that is about it.

Just a side thought, many people commenting here also thought he was the best thing since sliced bread when he arrived at the Bulls, but it suddenly seems that he never had one fan back then, everybody thought he was already rubbish. Pull the other one.

Bluebok I think we all hailed him when he started out. He was fantastic. He was not the same after the illness.
I dont believe he is playing the type of 8th man role that might suit him - roving. If he has a competitive advantage its his speed. But how often does he ever run with the ball. Set him lose and see what happens?
Pity he didnt stay on the wing.

All the Bulls fans I know pick Spies merely cause he's a Bull. Their narrow minded views irritate the shit out of me.
Yes ... Spies was something special. I honestly thought he would, if unleashed, challenge for the player of the tournament at the 07 WC. .
Sadly he never played and things slowly deteriorated year after year.

Spies was the man back in the day - if I remember he had back to back MOM performances in the TriNations in 2006 and CleanCut is spot on with his expectations for the 07 WC.
But that was 7 years ago now - an eternity in sports at the highest level. Very few can have that kind of longevity, Spies should not be one of them.
