Yes indeed WD....Gallipoli and all that. And the WW1 Centenary, passing by so fast with so little real connection to the men who fell.

Your boys were/are splendid soldiers (and airmen)...a lot of them paid the supreme sacrifice...respect of the highest order.

Wardaddy and other Kiwi's.

NZ'er Airmen, as were British and other nations were murdered by the Gestapo after the Great Escape from Stalag POW camp.

The 1963 film starring Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson...The Great Escape had a lot of inaccuracies...ie there were no Americans in the escape and yes there were also many other attempts.

This is an amazing human achievement...what men these guys were under the most impossible circumstances.

I took an interest in this as one of my old school buddies had an uncle who was a pilot shot down and involved in this...Tony Egner, as I could not find an Egner listed I presume it must have come from his mothers side but I can remember him telling us...anyway

I shore with a bloke named Colin Bosher ,a good mate of my Dads and a champion shearer and amazing magician.

He had to shovel up what was left of his brother into a wheelbarrow after he tried to escape.
