Mr Joubert & co, I know you follow this site. Gentlemen, let me say, in the world of rugby referees, there is you, then there is daylight and then there is the rest of the pack.

So don't lower your standards by stooping to Beeno's level and penalising the ABs for everything under the sun. Sure, penalise us when we deserve it, but don't be so fixated with catching McCaw supposedly cheating and missing EVERY opposition cheating.

I know you review all your performances and I know you already agree with me.

What are you talking about?   Joubert penalized the AB's 11 times and the English 8 times for offenses and there were no penalties awarded against McCaw.   Read was penalized once - and carded because of a previous warning given as a result of repeated offences by other AB's - in particular Sam Whitelock.   Five of the 11 penalties were against AB props - but that is fairly natural given their limited abilities as props and the tendencies to overcome their limitations through cheating.

It was indeed surprising that McCaw was not penalized at all - because in recent matches - he was penalized repeatedly, for instance in the opening RC match against Australia he was penalized 3 times.   As far as I can recollect he was penalized twice in the French game - but that is not really surprising since his average penalty count per match since his sabbatical is about 2.

Don't blame the SA refs - they normally apply the law - even though I have reservations with regard to Peyper - who to my mind is on par with the NZ refs and therefore below the normal standards of SA refs.

Mike, how many times was an English player holding onto the ball on the ground without support with an ABs supporter over him and  no penalty to the ABs? To be fair, he eventually gave a penalty to Reid at the 72minute in that regard.
"It was indeed surprising that McCaw was not penalized at all" wrong again Mike - McCaw was indeed penalised at the 59minute mark.

Look, I get it Mike, it was a Test played at a very very fast pace with alot of noise and Mr Joubert was trying to let it flow. But I am sure Mr Joubert will give my concerns some thought .

Meh ,refs come and go but the Saffa refs are usually OK .Its not worth worrying about else you will end up with farce book campaigns and other sooky shizz which we will leave to fans of lesser teams who cant face reality about their teams short comings .And whining about cheating while ignoring your own sides evil doings is best left to other teams fans as it is usually all they have left to them after being rolled by the Black Blitzkrieg !

In maul situations it is not always clear to the public who in fact was penalized and in the case of the penalties I normally used the ESPM stats to see who has been penalized.   That is what I did in the above case.   Although not full proof - it normally indicates who the real culprits are.

Another problem is that the refs look in the first instance who made the tackle and whether the tackler allows the tackled player to place the ball - or do not show daylight and then try and make a turnover.  That is also not always clear, especially when there are two tacklers involved.   One may not roll away or obstruct the placing of the ball - whilst the other attempts the turnover.   That is why it is so difficult for members of the public to understand why penalties are awarded to opposite sides to whom we believe it should go.

Be it as it may - I normally do not criticize refs - only express reservations if they are in effect showing gross incompetence - and of those there were only really 2 since 2011 - Bryce Lawrence and Poite.   Did my eyes deceive me or was the  latter a line judge in one of the games yesterday?

"McCaw admitted to some frustrations with refereeing calls from Craig Joubert but he said you had to be careful when the momentum was against you that you didn't start looking for reasons other than yourselves." (hear that Beeno?)

"That was the way Craig was seeing it and we had to adapt. I thought we did that well in the second half. I guess it's just the nature of a pretty tough contest," he said.

Hakwa: my opinion is that yesterday was good prep for Rwc refs. ABs have to learn to adjust to refs interpretations & this is what they did in the last quarter . Glad that noneof the   kiwi  fans are blaming the ref or saying "it's the refs fault" (a famous quote from a poster we all know & like).

The momentum was against us says wee mcaaaw. Never a truer word spoken. abs edge England. Wobblies hammer Wales. Momentum in a number of games was against abs. These kiwi bird brains are signs you need to take into account.Who will ever forget how Joubert gifted the wc to an unworthy ab side!!!! France were decidely superior on the day.No saffar refs must be firm with the abs and whilst giving them a  fair deal never favour them like we have tended to do. Refs favouring the abs (as the yellow card stats show with crystal clear clarity - remember also Bob Dywers stats and also that the Boks get double the yellows the abs do - has to stop). The abs are the most illegal playing rugby team on the planet and showed be incurring by far the most penalties NOT LESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Refs need to be particularly severe on their red zone illegal tactics.
Fair deal Beeno calling on bent nz in pocket refs to repent of their devious ways.
Cloudy I really wonder if Craig should be lumped with mcaaaw whose international nickname says it all. Anywhow after the wc debacle I am not complaining too much but the sentence si severe. Carter shou ld not be part of this unworthy grouping.

How many times do the ABs have to beat France in one RWC Tournement to prove that they are RWC champions? How many times do the French have to lose in one RWC Tournement for some people to get it?

On a similar vein, how many times do the Wallabies have to beat a certain Team one particular year for the fact to sink in

Ex Rugby Mag "But the home backs lacked the class to convert huge periods of forward dominance, field position and territory into a win".
Had Tuiligi played England would doubtless have won the game. He was all they needed to set the backs up.
I see little hope of the abs winning the next world cup.

Are Saffer refs out to get the All Blacks?

Easy to answer... NO!
In fact the opposite.

For the first ten minutes Joubert never penalised the All Blacks for the tackler not releasing the tackled player. And in that period it happened about 5 times. For the next 30 minutes he penalised them for it and the rate at which penalties were awarded was quite high... and it then included the yellow card. To compensate for it, so that it "does not look too bad", he ignored it for all of the second half.

Once the referees wake up to the fact that the All Blacks make use of two specific illegal tactics, they will be average at best...

On defence, they NEVER release the tackled player.
On attack they take up many metres of space in front of the ball at the breakdown. (At one point yesterday, one of the arriving England players was TACKLED two metres away from the breakdown on the England side... WTF is up with that?)

Don't get me wrong, I don't support England and never will, (in fact I would have preferred that all the SH teams beat all the NH teams every year), but it's just ridiculous that a team gets away with so much, just because the referees seem to think it will look bad if they penalise the AB's. They should just ap ply the laws of the game, even if it means you send off half the team for the same (repeated) infringements.

The_Truth

I do not  entirely blame  the players for the illegal tactics used.   They are coached to play that way -  to use illegal tackles and all other chances to get an advantage for the team.   If the ref allows them to get away with it, it is a bonus for them.   When Joubert gave penalties against them.  McCaw now says he cannot understand why - because like many referees previously - he in the past allowed them to do what they really want to do on the field of play, so now they are surprised at the change.

I think the referees are nowadays more carefully studied than they were in the past and they do not like to get adverse reports on performances - since they can put their job in jeopardy.

The - truth : stop whining, all you "it's the refs fault" types are tiring. It was a good game so we should appreciate both teams. Bok fans should be happy we kept the Poms from gaining on your precarious no. 2 ranking. My conclusion is the same for most games, you have to adjust to the ref interpretations.

My point is, no ref should be pressured to take the field with a subconscious desire to prove that they are not favouring the All Blacks. They should ref what is infront of them.

Plus I want us to discuss this before the 2015 RWC so that there is no misunderstanding.

And I'm definitely not whining, merely stating a fact.

But if we read the rest of the posts on this thread, it is clear who is whining!

Joubert generally had a good game as per normal. However there were 2 bad incidents that spring to mind.

Read's yellow card was crap. Messam was over the ball on his feet and clearly the ABs should have received a penalty prior to the Read infringement which resulted in 3 points to the Poms.

Also the Pommie try should never have been allowed. Pom No 7 Robshaw clearly touched the ball from an off side position as the try scorer picked it up and dived over.

Should have been a penalty to the ABs. Can't really blame Joubert for that one but the gutless TMO had full view of it on the replay and chose to ignore the obvious.

But then again, a champion team can overcome adversity!!

If a ref blew strictly according to the rules there would be a penalty at virtually every contested breakdown. That's the difference between a great referee and a knee-jerk one. The good ones count to 2 before blasting the whistle. Yes, the tackler didn't roll the split second the tackle was made, yes, the tackler held on to the ball for a fraction before the defenders got cleaned out. There is a degree of reasonableness which referees need to apply, but you won't find that rule in any law book. And the there are refs who are the other end of the scale and let things go too far.

It's an unenviable job I reckon. Hats off to those that do it.

Pedants can torture a good game near unto death with that bloody whistle .... and I am over blaming refs for stuff that doesnt go your way tho ,even Barnes .Consistency and playing a decent advantage ,clarity all make for good reffing .I was pleased to see Joubert put that little daddies boy farrell in his place ! Who the feck does he think he is ? little arshole cost his team with that sniffy little entitled comment to Joubert about Cruden not being the Captain you could see Jouberts attitude towards the poms do a 180 and harden up on them ,and rightfully so ! hahahahahah!

Awww, poor you! Couldn't find one valid argument, so we have to become a grammar nazi, to have SOMETHING to say.

Many a true word is spoken in jest. If the thought did not cross his mind he wouldn't have made the post, whether it was tongue in cheek or not.

The fact is that while you all deny that you complain about referees, you start a thread about it, the moment one referee dares to apply the laws for even less than half a match.

The fact is that if the laws were applied for a full match, the way it is supposed to be, the "mighty" All Blacks would be average at best and probably ranked at number 4, based on their performances against the third ranked team.

The only reason the All Blacks were allowed to win the previous World Cup was in any case a humanitarian effort, initiated by the UN... The had to prevent the high number of suicides and wife-beatings by the average New Zealander, that usually happens every four years!

 Hook, line and sinker!
Just a keyboard warrior who's main argument comes down to "I win because, I said so!"
Followed by the toys out the cot!

And talk about post degenerating. Just read your previous one again.

But the most fun about this exchange, was the fact that I'm in fact a big fan of the All Blacks and their style of play.

But I was much more impressed with Cloudy, who wasn't drawn in. ;-)

Hehehe! no need to be so sensitive.

All this talk kiwi's but did you win?? Yes or no?? Did you win??

Now ask us the same question about Paul Honiss in the Boks vs Ireland and Bryce Lawrence in 2011 WC quarter final. Ask us the same question...

So dont talk shit about refs. If Joubert wanted you to lose, you would have lost. England had momentum for the most part in that game and Craig could have subtly ensured it stayed that way whilst Farrell and his on song boot on the night kicked you out of it. Afterall, the breakdowns are left up to the interpretation of the ref and although it must have been frustrating for the Kiwi's and their supporters, you have to admit, England got stuck in to your pack and were winning the breakdown contest.

Testament to the class of the AB's though, they managed to turn it around and do enough to get the result. Dont ping the ref on this occasion because he penalized the AB's more than you guys would like or are used to when playing in NZL. Absolutely nothing to scrutinize in Joubert's performance there. The AB's met a good fired up and spirited English team and they got the win in the end. Fair play to both teams!

Man what a noble addition to the board The Truth is if he keeps up this sober and rational commentary. I couldn't have put it better myself.
Playing within the laws would the abs make the top 4 is the question.
No refs must blow the kiwis every time they infringe. No more the nice guys iro illegal ab play. We all have had enough.
Anyhow it would be nice if the kbbs stopped going on about the refs for once.
