Argentina - SA test : What really went wrong yesterday

Not very much went right yesterday - so  what went wrong with the Springboks  yesterday.  I can summarize it as follows:-

Goal Kicking

Both Jantjies and Steyn missed kicks they should have made.  Both are sub-standard  flyhalfs  on international level  as well.  So  Coetzee needs to make a  change here.  While Pollard is off one can only hope that L:ambie becomes available .  The alternative is to use Goosen at flyhalf

Loose forward combination  

This combination is for the birds.   Louw is slow and so is Mohoje – if they had ball sense and know how to follow the ball it would have helped.   However, because they do not know how to really compete and is ignorant of bal protection as well – the situation is that penalties are frequent because of them and balls are often enough turned over.      I would replace them both and suggest that they rather go for Kriel and Labuschagne.  

Props situation

This is unfortunately  positions where quota  selection is a problem.   Mtawarire (Beast)  yesterday was sub-standard, as he is in most matches he plays in.     The obvious solution is to play Kitshoff as a starter and then bring on Mtawarire  or Nyakane.

Centers

The combination of De Allende and Mapoe is just not working.   Despite all the criticism I would prefer Van Rensburg at 12 and De Allende or Jesse Kriel  at 13.  

Hookers/Captaincy

Strauss  yesterday was a farce – both as  player and as captain.   A non-performing player is made captain in this case.  Both Marx and Akker van der Merwe are better hookers than Strauss is.    

 you are right there, mike,...... IMO the whole team needs to be reshuffled,....

all current flyhalves-centers proved they are not up to test level,..... Jantjes is a mess and cannot stand pressure, Steyn's drop attemp says it all,... de Allende, Mapoe and Kriel's contribution was zip,.....
I would go for something like:

10. Lambie/Goosen    12. Pollard   13. van Rensburg

now Pollard (IMO he's more a 12 than a 10) and Lambie are unavalaible  I would play van Rensburg-Goosen at centers and bring another flyhalf, at least a solid one who could be Marnitz Boshoff.
or play Goosen at 10 and bring a solid center to play alongside van Rensburg,..... F. Venter could be

The outside back trio needs also to be changed,.... Habana is not contributing and he won't be for the next WC,..... so why stick playing with him instead of giving opportunities to young wings?....... Combrick is not a wing (at least at test level),..... he should be at FB,...... and I would try with youngs like Ulengo or even  de Allende on the wings


same applies to Mohoje and Louw,..... Louw is past his best long time ago,..... Mohoje needs to learn basics,..... how to tackle to begin with,..... yesterday he was really dangerous,..... what was that head-butt tackle?
with Vermeulen injured, Whiteley remains as the only option at 8,...... he's probably not the strongest nº8 but he defends well, links with the backline and is an option at lineouts,..... if he's combined with a strong blindside he can form a balanced loose combination,...... PSdT would be my first option but there are others  like Jaques du Plessis, S. Notse,...
Jaco Kriel is the only option at openside

If PSdT is shifted to the backrow, I would play with Etxzebeth and Mostert as locks.

Adrian Strauss should be axed,..... that's a no-brainer having someone like Marx


So this means to reshuffle the whole team,..... something AC won't do,......

 ATM we miss Thor badly, with 10, 12 & 13 also problematic...and Strauss's also not up to standard. 6&7 will look better with a bruiser firing at 8.
