auckland 9s have been pretty exciting to watch, a real 7s like feel but with a strong league flavour.

NZ warrirors were the favourites heading into the tournament and with them about to beat the rabbitos, i cant see anhyone really beating them.
warriors are made for 9s.

english dude tomkins has had a blinder of a tournament and i cant wait too see him during the regular NRL seasosn.

johnson might be player of the tournament????

jeebers, i almost spoke too soon, two quick trys to the rabbitos saw them copme back into contention.

the last two rabbito trys were both cms away from the 5pt zone, and that could have won them the game.

pheeeww. gg warrirors, had to work for that win, but the rabbitos IMO was ur biggest threat.

final score, warriros 17, rabbitos 16.

go the warriors, :o)

Pretty decent format of league i think i prefer it to 13 a side... less agro and more football... even the mrs is actually enjoying the spectacle...
It appears the players with natural instinct are the key - i get the feeling the broncs are keeping benny barba in cotton wool - hes hardly touched the ball and looked like he pulled up a bit sore on his calf before...

barbas just like duggan and ferguson, talented players whose off field shenanigans will stop them from reaching their true potential.

i would rather have hoffman any day over barba.

stupid warriros stripping the ball and then backchatting??? o_O

rookie errors, :o(

13 man game is still better then the 9s, but 9s has the novelty factor.

nice try cowboys,,,

warriors look fatigued, like 7s endurance is prob the most important factor.

Nines has been a success no matter who wins it.

Big fan of the Cowboys, a great NRL side but they keep getting ripped off for some reason WTF. Thurston is a legend of the game. Golden boot twice i think.

Rabbitohs have also been good side since Kiwi Russel Crowe bought into it and injected a whole heap of Kiwis into it like David Kidwell, Issac Luke, Asotasi, Talanoa, Galuvao etc.

Real battlers and now with Asotasi and Talanoa gone Lote Tuqiriis has come in to it and players like Inglis and the Burgess bros make it still competitive. None is more competitive though than Isaac Luke - best hooker in the business with the awards to prove it.

saSUe of the Uchica clams - please boet babbling away about nines on the board only serves to waste valuable space.
You should be telling us how worried you are but the forward power of the SSharks and Bulle. It will be dead faint country when you see the Mighty Stormers at full strength!!
Bwahahhahahahaha - I see the black udder is also a 9s fan. One way of avoiding competition from the mighty Saffas!

Bean Brain...yr just jealous coz you were'nt invited to play...not our fault you yarpies can't play league...

Sasu..hate to say i told ya it would be a hit but some are even saying in many ways it's better than the Sevens... and not just coz no yarpies invited lol...sorryBean Brain could'nt resist having another dig mate..

...not much fun when yr precious rain puddle team gets whipped the same weekend yr cricket team is choking as well...talk about crying in yr beer lol...you wanna try playing like the Kiwi cricketers- kicking World Champions Indias butt just after kicking the Windies butt....watch out Straylia we's coming for you wombats next...lol

...but Sas as i was saying before i got side tracked sorry...the Nines...better than the Sevens...More action...no scrums or lineouts so the ball is in play longer for a start...the players were mixing with the fans at grass root level visiting all the local clubs....league players and fans being more passionate than their rugby counterparts and therefore were better behaved...might've just bene an Auckland thing but awesome weekend with the Nines, a coupla big concerts Eminem and festivals the place was going off...

...but mate i tell ya, the Nines is set to get bigger and better with expansion already being discussed...English Super League teams wanting in... no reason why we can't have a team included from each of the islands...that would be perfect with Fiji Samoa Tonga the Cooks etc bringing some PI magic..

...and Bean Brain please try an put up a good show this weekend as them guppies are making all yr other SA franchises look like real amateurs...

...the Canes might just pop them Sharkies bubble this weekend and cheer you up with players like Beauden Barret, Marty Banks. the Savea bros all capable of doing the damage.... if there is a few more Wellington Lions in the team not sure but they could just roll the Sharkies all going good...

...Chiefs B team to take on the Crusties this weekend too so it's gunna be interesting after we rolled the Blues by almost 50 points last week despite half the team out injured...the Crusties will be a bit more of a formidable opponent though but some epic games coming up this weekend including 6 Nations games like England vs Ireland and Wales and France...WICKED STUFF...

...Tasman boys to step up this weekend for the Canes an the Chiefs- all going good it'll be a double..

Hi there brycy my good friend. I had hoped that your lose screws may have been tightened up during the off season but no chance the thread is far gone!
I see through it all Brycy. We are no sooner whipping you at sevens and you want to move on to nines!! Bwhahahahahahaha
Brycy the canes are about to be caned and even now are dreading the game. The Reds beat the wee chiefies and were in turn beaten by the Rebels. How good are the chiefs one wonders.
Its going to be a tough year for the kiwis so I hope they can stay the course.
Beeno of course will always be here to offer trauma councelling etc.

@ brycy,

did u go to the game, was hoping to converse with u especially during the 9s,

shaun johnson was pretty special,  ut my man of the seires would have to be tagataese from the sharks.

and how awesome is the english dude tompikns looking??? i think i would rather see him and johson as the warrirors halves pairing.

but regarding some of ur comments,,,

"Sasu..hate to say i told ya it would be a hit but some are even saying in many ways it's better than the Sevens..."
i dont think my comments about doubting whether the auclkand 9s would be a hit was properly clarified.
i was always keeping tabs on the 9s, so i was well aware of the sales of tickets an what have u. but i only wondered about its long term longevity and being a hit.

all stars vs indigenous was a pretty good hit too, and look how long that lasted.

the folks saying that 9s are better then 7s, are the smae folks that have been promoting the living crap out of the 9s, nearly all of who are die hard league heads.

the reality is simple, 7s is a million times better then the 9s, when 9s or league for that matter can go to the likes of dubai, USA, japan, south africa and 7s mecca hong kong and pull in the big crowds, then we can talk about whats better.

while its a matter of opinon, the masses have clearly spoken, cos 9s outside of NZ, OZ, the UK and france, is about as nonexistent as the rugby trophies in SARUs cabinet.

IMO as a rugby and rugby league purist, 7s shits all over the 9s.
9s is a nice little novelty from the usual 13 man game, but if forced to choose, between league and 9s, leagues 13 man game would also shit all over the 9s.

"but Sas as i was saying before i got side tracked sorry...the Nines...better than the Sevens...More action...no scrums or lineouts so the ball is in play longer for a start..."
bro there are scrums in 9s, its awarded whenever theres a double knock on.

but in the contest sense, leagues definition of a scrum when compared to both 7s and the 15 man game pretty much means its not a scrum, lolz.

lineouts are an integral part of the 7s games giving it one of many of unions flavours, all part of the tactics which IMO is awesome.

also the IRB have gone to great lengths to keep 7s games very efficient with its use of time, theres bugger all time lost on scrums and lineouts really, something that the 15 man game cant say.

"might've just bene an Auckland thing but awesome weekend with the Nines, a coupla big concerts Eminem and festivals the place was going off..."
take nothing away from the first 9s tournament, it was freaking awesome.

and speaking of slim shady, cant wait for wed, just one more sleep, before the uchiha clan sees one of the greatest hip hop artists ever, :o)

"but mate i tell ya, the Nines is set to get bigger and better with expansion already being discussed...English Super League teams wanting in... no reason why we can't have a team included from each of the islands...that would be perfect with Fiji Samoa Tonga the Cooks etc bringing some PI magic.."
having the super league teams would make it pretty damn awesome, but working out the logistics will be a nightmare.

as for the Pi islands, considering their best players are all from clubs, i cant help but think that might be a bit too much???
and what players those island teams do get not contracted to the NRL/superleague clubs, will be much a do about nothing.
and would the coaches of the NRL clubs be keen to risk injuries to their players aaginst players who would literally have nothing to lose???

judging by the no namers packed in some clubs like the raiders, and the injury to some players, i doubt it.

"...the Canes might just pop them Sharkies bubble this weekend and cheer you up with players like Beauden Barret, Marty Banks. the Savea bros all capable of doing the damage...."
canes are always capable of dealing the damage, but until we get rid of that cockhead hammet and bring in umaga as the next hurricanes coach, will always be best to keep expectations low.

fingers crossed though, ;o)

" ...Chiefs B team to take on the Crusties this weekend too so it's gunna be interesting after we rolled the Blues by almost 50 points last week despite half the team out injured...the Crusties will be a bit more of a formidable opponent though"
crusaders at home will be too much for ur chiefs IMO. theres no team in the entire spXV thats harder to beat at home then the crusaders.
beating the crusaders in chch is something rennie has been unable to cross of his to do list, same with beating the reds.

but all i know is im leaving work early this friday so i can get a beer or two in me before watching the best game of the spX get palyed out, the crusaders vs chiefs.

mark my words, 2014 spXV champions will be either the chiefs or crusaders, and if forced to pick, i would say ur chiefies have the slight edge, their depth is just too sick.

Sas,  nah did'nt get to the games but yr right about Tompkins and Johnson...

...do get to to see the Warriors training quite a bit though as i work around the stadiums.

..big fan of the Nines though ...the inaugural event was awesome and went off without a hitch...looks like agreat way to promote the 13 a side game just like Sevens has done for the fifteens and eventually we may see new countries getting involved and similarly we can take the sport global...i'm sure Sevens started from humble beginnings as well...

...although fairly predictable the Sevens now as only a handful of teams regularly win it...you'll note that every team won a game in the NInes so notas predictable either...

...but when i said it could be better than the Sevens i meant the Wellington Sevens as numbers are down there and some saying they won't be going back coz the atmosphere's changed and it's turning into a ZOO. lol

but Nines is agreat innovation and has the potential to be great, managed properly...looking forward to them expanding it and bigger stars of the game turning up next year...loved how the teams went around all the local clubs for warm up games and helped promote the sport at grass roots level as well...

Chiefs got a massive challenge on their hands this weekend with 19 players out against the Reds at least they're down to only 13 players out now so good challenge of their depth and particularly keen to see how the backs go with Freuan and Nanai Williams to name a couple of danger men...

Crusties big Fijian winger looks like a bit of a handful too...should be a good game and looking forward to it...

Yes, a big ask for the Chiefs to beat the Saders playing them at home & with so many injuries.
Many interesting things/players to keep an eye on including Nanai Williams who has really muscled up & Freuen who will be looking to have a great game against his old mates, lol
