I was disappointed in the sheer volume of errors from Steph. Had he not made as many positive contributions I'd have rated him lower. I probably ought to irregardless. Some of the same issues I've been identifying throughout the season.
Nkosi hasn't impressed me thus far. He is another with a big reputation, but all I have seen are walk in tries and security under the high ball. Poor defender and isn't busy enough. We are missing Mapimpi, who contributed significantly more whilst being a greater attacking threat.
Willie was nowhere most of the game. Came into the game more in the latter part of the game. Numerous errors.
The centres were poor. Rassie was wise to concentrate carries through the stronger and faster Kriel. Damian playing short balls to setup the crash ball twice early on. Damian switching with Pollard in a double switch set sequence. That aside, of no significance. Poor under the high ball and very poor on defence. Conceded a needless penalty at the breakdown. Damian is not the player we need at 12. He is not a 12 by nature. Kriel fared better and had his chances. More threatening and better defence. When will Am be back? We need him.
Faf was the general yesterday. Our game heavily reliant on his boot. Some errors, but that is Faf all over. He makes up for those with the intangibles. Without him we'd have been much less present in the game.
Our front row was huge. Very accurate and powerful. For a time, we struggled to get our backs into the game and we relied heavily upon them to get us going. Marx was more successful at the lineout, made a couple of steals and was strong carrying and defending. I can't think of a fault for either of the three off the top of my head.
Kolisi was hopeless all game. Embarrassed by the display Louw gave. He is a sham of a captain and drags the team down. If he is doing anything its running in space or breaking a tackle out wide. He is a big back pretending to be a forward. Louw was immense and saved the test. Some might say 8 is too high, but those were big moments. No Louw, no win. It's that simple.
