Wallabies coach Ewen McKenzie says it was a difficult decision to relegate Will Genia to the bench for Saturday night's Test against Argentina in Perth, but feels he's made the right call.

Genia, considered by many to be the best halfback in world rugby, has been replaced in the starting line-up by Nic White, with No.8 Ben Mowen to take over the captaincy after only making his Test debut in June.

In the only other change to the starting line-up, prop Ben Alexander replaces Sekope Kepu after the Wallabies copped a hiding in the scrum in last week's 38-12 loss to South Africa.

Quade Cooper has been retained at five-eighth despite his indifferent showing against the Springboks in his long-awaited return to the starting role.

The Wallabies are yet to win a game under McKenzie, who took over from Robbie Deans following the 2-1 series loss to the British and Irish Lions.

Genia has been a fixture in the Wallabies' side for the past four years but has struggled to find his best form this season, and McKenzie said the 25-year-old was disappointed when told of his axing.

"It's been a long time since he's been in that situation," said McKenzie, who was also Genia's coach at the Queensland Reds.

"As much as it's difficult to have those conversations - and I've known Will for a very long time - it's the nature of the business.

"The reality is, we are at the pointy end of Australian rugby and we want a competitive environment.

"Will's an outstanding player. He'd admit he hasn't been at the peak of his game of late.

"But he'll respond as he already has in training. He's out there pushing himself hard, and he'll continue to do that."

cant say im surprised and IMO its long overdue, amybe this relegation to the bench could be ggod for genia in helping him get his mojo back, cos starting all the time seems to be doing sweet F all.

should of replaced cooper while they were at it, a brumbies combo of 9 white, 10 toomua and 12 leilafano could be exactly what the doctor ordered.

chacnes for a puma first win before a match in the RC/4nats has never been better, they came close to an upset last year over the Boks, but theres a feeling that if the pumas do win, it wont be as much of a shock.

still think the wallabies will come through though, maybe even give the pumas a real hiding, someones due to face the yellow backlash, and its not going to be the lions, All Blacks or Boks.

Cooper gifts the Boks points and does his best to avoid contact with the Boks pack and they keep him on the park and bench Genia! The forwards get demolished in the scrums and across the park and they are kept on the park while Genia gets benched! Go figure! I have a feeling Ewen gets his tips from the reading the Roar!

 They just want to quarantine him and they dont want anything nasty rubbing off on their Geniatals until whatever is infecting their Wombles has cleared up ,prolly a nasty case of OIhmyfarkingodpleasedontletusscrewthisoneuptoo!!!So there you have it ,thats why they scratched their Geniatals !

cooper is garbage and he always has been. the dunny hasnt had one good test in his entire career! drop him entirely get toomua staarting, bring folau into the midfield and be patient with mogg he'll come good. genia is 50/50 but id rather drop cooper and keep genia with toomua outside him then have white with cooper. its just asking for fugging trouble.we're missing some men in the forwards and sooner than later we'll get some forwards into the mix. jake did more than ewan with just the brumbioes against a 700 cap lions team (more than the boks!!) so theres no real excuse for not being competative. ewan just isnt smart enough at this level and jake always gets an immediate impact which is what we need two years out from the world cup.

It's near on impossible for any half back to impress if his pack is moving backwards at a rapid rate.

Fix the pack and Genia will show his magic.

Quivering Quade is useless ... as pointed out by Deans.

There are many options for the 10 jersey ... all of which are better than this fool. 

Deans saw something in O'Connor at 10. He persisted with it. I think that Porkie should've done the same. O'Connor is wasted on the wing. Should be brought closer to the ball.

Why haven't they brought Giteau back? He's playing some awesome rugby.

Fraid this has come full circle. Porkie had much to say about Deans ... now he's finding it a little difficult in Deans' shoes. He's run out of ideas.

Good point CC. Look what happened last year when our pack was eing nailed.

Some of the wise-crack experts around here would probably quickly point out that Giteau is playing in a nothing competition that is below CC level...... Be that as it may, he is indeed playing some great rugby.

giteau is sorta the same package as cooper a really temperamental and flawed player. he does actually have real falir and really can attack unlike cooper who never does anything copnstructive. i dont have time for o'connor either. hes no better and is a arrogant prick. hes not that good that we HAVE to play him. drop the silly little boy for good. toomua has the makings of our real test 10 and we have other options on the wing. the big problem is where to play folau. mogg must play 15 and folau must come into the midfield, he doesnt have the speeed to play in the back three and cant kick for shit. i really think he should be our playmaker like sonny bill, he really creates alot and if we can build our game off him with toomuas solidity at 10 then you have something to work with. genia is on thin ice but i think he would thrive better with toomua. cooper and genia fighting for attention just causes way too many problems to be taken seriously. we need to play a tighter and smarter game i think as well, jake did it with the brumbies so thats the way forward i think.
