The following from News24:-

"Israel Folau said on Wednesday he had been "vindicated" after a surprise settlement with Rugby Australia ended the former Wallaby's divisive, multi-million dollar lawsuit over his sacking for anti-gay comments.

The governing body and Folau both apologised for "any hurt or harm" caused as they released a joint statement after two days of mediation aimed at avoiding a drawn-out and expensive court case.

Folau, an ardent Christian and former poster boy of Australian rugby, was fired in May over a social media post warning "hell awaits" gay people and others he considers sinners.

"Rugby Australia and Mr. Folau wish each other well for the future. The parties do not intend to comment further on the terms of their settlement as it is confidential," said the statement, which made no mention of Folau's playing future.

The 30-year-old former Wallabies full-back later posted a video statement online, flanked by wife Maria, in which he said he was "really pleased" with the settlement.

"With today's acknowledgement and apology by Rugby Australia we have been vindicated and can now move on with our lives to focus on our faith and our family," said Folau in the video on his YouTube channel.

He had been set to demand Aus$14 million (US$9.5 million) in compensation, claiming he was unlawfully dismissed under legislation that bans sacking someone because of their religion.

Folau had claimed his religious freedom was at stake, winning backing from prominent conservatives and the Australian Christian Lobby, which raised more than Aus$2 million in just two days to help pay his legal fees.

The sport's governing body, which would have faced serious financial difficulties had it lost the case, argued the termination for "high-level" misconduct was purely contractual.

It came after Folau received a code of conduct warning over a similar post in 2018.

Folau was defending his actions as recently as Monday, saying in a video statement that "I only share passages from the Bible as a gesture of love".

The end of the saga will be a relief for Rugby Australia, who are beginning a post-World Cup era under new Wallabies coach Dave Rennie, a New Zealander.

Bushfires 'God's judgement'

The joint statement acknowledged that Folau was expressing genuinely-held religious beliefs and had not meant to offend anyone with his post, which was widely condemned.

"Mr. Folau wants all Australians to know that he does not condone discrimination of any kind against any person on the grounds of their sexuality and that he shares Rugby Australia's commitment to inclusiveness and diversity," it said.

The statement added that Rugby Australia and NSW Rugby "do not in any way agree with the content" of Folau's post.

The governing body also apologised for any hurt caused to Folau and his family, while Folau said he had not intended to cause any harm to rugby.

Folau played 73 Tests for the Wallabies and was Super Rugby's record try-scorer for the NSW Waratahs before his four-year, Aus$4 million contract was terminated.

He was originally seeking Aus$10 million compensation but upped that by $4 million last week, arguing he could have one day captained Australia.

What happens next for Folau is not known.

Australia's National Rugby League has previously said it would not welcome him back to the 13-man code he played at the start of his career.

An attempt to join Tonga's national rugby league team in September faltered amid in-fighting among officials, and Folau has recently focused on his legal battle and preaching at the Sydney church where he worships.

He sparked outrage with one sermon last month that suggested deadly bushfires raging in Australia were "God's judgement" for the legalisation of same-sex marriage and abortion.

Even his conservative backers condemned the remarks, including Prime Minister Scott Morrison, who cited Folau's sacking when introducing laws designed to protect religious freedom.

"We started this journey on behalf of all people of faith to protect their rights of freedom of speech and religion," Folau said in his video statement Wednesday.

"We now look forward to the federal government enacting the legislation necessary to further protect and strengthen these rights for all Australians."

Corporate sponsors may shy away from any sport associated with Folau, who has become a polarising figure in Australia.

Rugby Australia said in June that key sponsors such as airline Qantas would likely have walked away from the sport if it had not taken a strong stance over his homophobic remarks."

There is no further news about the "settlement" but it appears likely that -

*   it would include a financial agreement settlement; and

*   Rugby Australia developed cold feet about the matter reaching the courts.

One can only pity the Ausies test team as a result of this fiasco.   The team lost one of the key backline players with a top record in backline play as a result of the issue.

I hear that Folau got 8 million dollars but can't be certain. Clearly the nz goth freak Raylene was running scared and had to avoid going to court.

Thanks for your magnificent stand Folau. At least the sick pervs in Oz and others around the know what their destiny is unless they repent.

Say a BIG NO to the sick LGBT pervs and get your dirty slimy hands off our children you very sick slimeballs.

Saffex perv I am sure Folau rejoices in his great salvation every day!

If he got 8 million dollars in settlement plus the money he has he is set for life and can donate himself totally to the ministry rather than wasting more time playing rugby, great a player though he is.

Hopefully the settlement figure some are speaking about will be made public.

The Lord bless and annount Folau for service and may he continue to faithfully to proclaim God's precious Word to the heathen and to the hell bound pervs. I am sure there will be fruit for Folau's Labour.

Pervs like Saffex should be banned from coaching boys team. I suspect the attraction for Saffex perv is not the rugby.

Wonder if nz goth freak will survive this debacle. Time to clean house of these wackos! Also get in some decent sponsors. Companies not owned by pervs etc.

Are the "other" Christians on this board happy with this type of stuff from Beeno? It is little wonder that your "faith" gets the type of criticism it does...

Well, I'm not happy with the settlement. I wanted   pertinent legal questions answered...and now it looks even more like it was only about the money...No victory at all for me. Waste of time and talent on foolishness. If it was about principles, he would not settle for a NDA...and what about the money donated for his legal costs?

The mugs that signed the petition to pay for Folau's legal costs must really feel like paupers now.  Folau has pocketed that money along with his sell-out for the NDA payout. His sports career is finished- but he is set for life.  Just like more than 50% of the Church donations in America are believed to end up in the personal bank accounts of the Church leaders... You can now follow Folau on Twitter while he speaks the word of God. No good deeds, just someone promoting his own self-worth. Folau will tell you he is a better Christian than you are -so you can listen and learn. The day I believe that Christians are statistically on average better people ethically than non-religious people, is the day I will reconsider that religion is not just a hoax.

Hasbeeno, clearly you have just made up your “$8m” settlement bullshit to suit your own argument! If you are going to bang on about your Christian values then have the decency to at least be honest. Folau has clearly had to back down on what he said and has therefore betrayed his own values. What a shallow tosser he has now shown himself to be.....

So ... with this "apology" ... does it come with his return to Super Rugby?

Not much of an apology if he's still cast out.

Well done Folau. Anyone with half a brain can read between the lines. what you've pointed out is their bigotry. They want diversity, BUT NOT DIVERSITY OF OPINION.

So Beeno

If the ARU are guilty, as part of this agreement, has Folau demanded that he be reinstated to play for the Aussies again?

Or...…. was this all about the money to begin with ?

Rubbish!!

It was never about the money. He quoted God's word and the fag lovers took offense. So did you. He has the right to express his beliefs ... and ... he also has the right to earn a wage.

They took that away from him. You wanted him to take it on the chin.

It's called unfair dismissal and like it or not, it's against the law.

Either way, he's walked away with a massive settlement, the right to continue expressing himself and an apology ... and that's what pisses you off.

Why don't you put your money where your mouth is and help those in need. Folau can do with HIS money as he sees fit and is by no means obligated to donate a single cent to anyone just cause you say so.

Right on CC. The new protection of religious freedom bill could end this type of discrimination the pervs want to impose on Christians sharing God's Word.

Cloudy should really stop pretending she is a Christian. She clearly has no respect for God views on homosexuality found throughout the Old and New Testament. She is firmly in the LGBT camp.

I have noted how the LGBT pervs are  after our children and how trans males are destdoying woman's sport. HAS ANY PERV HERE CONDEMNED THIS ON THIS THREAD.

The pervs here including Cloudy are very sick people. Cloudy is perhaps the very worst as she should know better.

But thanks again Folau for shining a light in these filthy pervs. The grace in which you did it was admirable. Personally I think it's time we went after these pervs and smashed their plans to indoctrinate children and ruin women's sport. Thankfully this is now happening. Enough is enough. Don't accept any BS from these disgusting pervs.

While I don't know if the fires were a judgment I do know that God judges.

There have been a lot of fires in that cesspool know as California. Again I can't say that this was God'juxgement but equally can you say it wasn't.

My advice to the pervs is that they should repent immediately or face judgment.

The  great Day of Judgement will take place of that there is no doubt.

Anybody thinking otherwise is in for a terrible shock. We will ALL rise to the Judgement throne of Christ.  Christ offers a pardon based on His redeeming work on the Cross. You either accept the pardon he offers or you get judged on the basis of the the sins you have committed. "The soul that sins shall die. All have sinned"

Pervs can be saved if they repent and come to Christ. That was the wonderful message Folau was sharing with th e pervs and other delinquents. The choice is yours.

Why would I take offense at his comment?

You've been pouting ever si nce this started.

Oh ... and exactly what do you know? You claim Folau insisted he be refunded the donations he made to some religion. Please tell us more. Did it go to court? How much money are we talking about? What religion?

Jesus loves the gays too. Yes ... and the liars and drunks ... the murderers and thieves ... in fact all sinners ... even the filthy muslims. That however doesn't mean he'll overlook their sin. That doesn't mean they'll escape judgement ... punishment. You do know that ... right?

Cloudy, welcome it is great to have you back on the site.

Trust all is well and that you enjoyed the world cup even though the AB's settled for the Bronze.

Great to see that they did not remove their medals at the presentation ceremony like those Pommies.

Just shows who are sportsmen and who ain't.

Must admit this saga has generated quite a cash flow for you know who and I trust that he will do the honorable thing and donate the funds from his legal fund to the victims of that terrible fire in OZ.

Show some class guy and do the right thing.
