The SA Under 20 team won - but it was a disgustingly poor display on their part. Playing like this they would be beaten in the semi-final - I think they will lay Wales in that game.
I have no idea how SA can produce such a weak set of forwards - they were really disgustingly poor and dominated by the French pack. The forwards tried desperately to lose balls in tackle situations and to hand possession to the French. They were pushed back in scrums like they were cardboard players and they were bad in lineouts and unable to stop driving mauls by the French.
Pollard has really learnt well from Morne Steyn how to bugger matches up - kick balls away and let the opposition run at you. His goalkicking was better tonight and that was really all that count in his favour. Van Rensburg was grossly disappointing and I can now understand why the coaches did not try him out earlier.
The backline mostly got sh!t balls from the forwards - who often keep balls amongst themselves and then knock it on. Jacques Du Plessis set that example to others and it was followed constantly by other forwards. He has a long way yo go before h can aspire for the Super 15 - leave alone the national side.
The only players that showed something tonight were Swanepoel, Kolbe and Obi - the rest were ranging from average to useless.
No future in that lot.

Don't think it was shown on Sky Sports. I did look but could not see it.
Sounds like I missed nothing, or merely a frustraing experience.

Mike there are very few to enthuse about. Du Plessis is very good. The big problem is that we dont have a tighthead. Both guys were pap. the locks are okay and Jaques is very good. The other loosies nothing to shout about.
Now its a bit difficult to be certain about it but was the absence of Geduld and Robert Du Preez the reason the backline didnt function. Senatla never had one run. Was it better opposition or the selections.
Kolbe is an outstanding runner and has a good rugby brain. How about Kriel as a centre? He seems too good to leave out.
Our scrummie was very ordinary as well. We needed Goosen and Jan.
How good were France maybe very good and had they clicked earlier it could have been different for them.
As it stands one cant have too much hope. However last year we were writing off the baby Boks and they turned it around.

Sharkbok they were calling it the game of the pool. It had some very good moments. Its just disappinting to see the pack struggling. They did however have a very good last 20 minutes when the shut France down and camped in the half/22.
Cant beleive how bad those tightheads were!!
The boys never gave in.

The Baby Boks survived a physical onslaught from France to secure a 26-19 win in La Roche-sur-Yon, which sees them qualify for the Junior World Championship semi-finals.
The result completed the SA U20s’ unbeaten run in a tough Pool A. After wins over the USA and England, they downed the hosts to qualify for the semi-finals. The defending champions will have the opportunity to clinch back-to-back titles as they face Wales in the knockouts. New Zealand will tackle England in the other play-off.
However, Baby Boks head coach Dawie Theron will lament this performance as they struggled against a France outfit that was physically superior. Les Bleus juniors dominated the forwards battle and the collisions for most parts of the match and were unlucky to trail 8-7 at the break. They eventually took a deserved 19-18 lead during the final quarter when Baptiste Serin dived over.
South Africa showed plenty of character to fight back at the death as Handré Pollard kicked a penalty and Cheslin Kolbe (pictured) scored a try to snatch the seven-point victory.
Despite playing much of the match on the back foot, the SA U20s scored three tries: Dries Swanepoel scored from the kick-off, while Luther Obi was put into space by an impressive offload from Kolbe and showed good finishing skills to dot down in the corner. Pollard, who has been disappointing with the boot during this year’s tournament, had a decent goal-kicking display in this match, slotting three penalties and a conversion.
After Swanepoel’s score, France went 7-5 ahead thanks to a converted try from Thibault Regard. Pollard slotted a penalty shortly thereafter, which was enough to give the SA U20s a slim half-time advantage.
The Baby Boks added to their lead early n the second half with Obi's try and Pollard added the conversion and a second three-pointer. France then surged ahead with tries through Marco Tauleigne and Serin.
An upset was on the cards, but the SA U20s showed their quality with a strong finish to the match to seal the comeback win.

On the positive side at least we won, even though our fowards were dominated.
Pretty much like against Italy last weekend with the senior team, or forwards got beaten for much of the much but at least our backs were able to score tries from limited possesion

This would happen if you pratically use the whole bloody Blue Bull U/20 team against international teams. I can see how easy it is for the Bulls to lure these guys if you consider the come to Bulls you will get SA selection policy in this country

Never a truer word spoken. On Under 20 level we have the Bulls - on Senior Level - we have the Bulls. On Senior level we have the useless Kruger and Spies to contend with - and then there are also Vermaak and Hougaard to help the opposition along.
And Pollard played the Morne Steyn game to perfection. Like happened on Saturday against Italy - especially in the second half. Kicked the ball aimlessly - hand the ball over to the opposition so they can run at you. Why not keep the ball in hand yourself and run at the opposition?

Mike the other day I was banned from a site replying to a Bulls supporter comments that they are teaching their guys to run the ball unlike the Stormers. So I replied and said due to them paying high fees for the top youngsters those senior players were ask to take a pay cut and a lot is going to leave.
