Disappointing side, no Swiel at 15, no Fisher at 13 and Orie at 5 is a lightweight stringbean. du Plessis should be at 5

Well Technically I don't know whee Swiel is at the moment, the Stormers Training squad or the Baby boks training Squad.

This is only a training game Saf, he needs to have a  look at the players and combinations. So he is sure to mix it up a bit.

When the Stormers announced their training squad for the Super 15 - Swiel was definitely in the squad - so he will be at Hermanus and not with the junior camp.   There really is no way that the Stormers will release him to go to the Junior Squad

He may be selected for the Junior WC yet.   Players like Kitshoff and Jordaan were released by the Stormers and Sharks respectively last year to play in the JWC and it could happen again this year.

Kolbe is a very good youngster and will not let the team down.

Well i really don't think Dawie theron is in the win at all odds mode against the Vasity sides.

He is just testing stuff. Should be interesting to see which combinations he plays in the third game maybe where his thinking is going.

But he is showing his hand and it looks like Orie might captain the side which is a poor call for he will be a liability in the engine room.

And how the hell can you leave Tyler Fisher out of the starting 15 - madness

an article on this from rugby 365

Junior Springboks coach Dawie Theron on Thursday named a strong starting line-up for the South African Under-20 training squad’s match against the University of the Western Cape, to be played on Friday afternoon at the Markötter Sports Field in Stellenbosch.

Friday’s encounter is the first of three training matches lined-up over the coming week for the South African Under-20 hopefuls.

The players have been in camp since last Sunday and will end their training camp with a final match against the University of Cape Town next Saturday. In between they will also be in action against Maties in Stellenbosch on Wednesday.

The starting line-up for Friday includes 2012 Junior World Championship (JWC) winners Jan Serfontein (centre), Handré Pollard (flyhalf) and Marvin Orie (lock). The 1.98m lock forward Orie will captain the team, while playmaker Pollard was confirmed as his understudy.

According to Theron, the three-match training exercise is something they have planned with the 2013 JWC schedule firmly in mind.

“During the JWC the turn-around times are tight as well and in France we will have three days to prepare before playing our next match so we wanted to simulate that,” explained Theron.

“The heat wave here in the Western Cape is actually a good thing for us because I believe it will also be quite hot in France during June.”

Regarding team selection, Theron said that everyone in the 34 man training group will get a chance to play.

“We will lose five, six of our guys after our second match as they are needed elsewhere, but that is not a problem as it creates the opportunity for everyone to play and after the UCT match all would have had a chance.”

According to Theron, players outside the current squad can still make it to France.

“We will be looking at the performances of players during the Vodacom Cup and Varsity Cup competitions and if someone performs impressively, then he will come into consideration. Raymond Rhule, for instance, forced his way into last year’s squad at a very late stage,” added Theron.

The match kicks off at 16:00 on Friday at the sports fields of the Paul Roos Gymnasium.

Thanks for the above.   I checked the TV programmes for today and there is no indication that the match will be broadcasted live.   However, that may still happen and if so it would be indicated sometime today.   In this regard it must be mentioned that there is a lot of highlight repeats at present and they may replace one of those repeats to cater for the match this afternoon.

Snapster says - "Orie at 5 is a lightweight stringbean. du Plessis should be at 5".

Well that is a surprise snapster! Does Orie also only weigh in at 106 kg - said by wee victor to be in the range of his best playing weight (106 to 108 kg is what wee victor said). Orie is also a string bean like victor.

So do you have the stats fo Orbie. Remeber too snapster that Orie, if 106kg or so, is only under 21, and not playing test rugby. You say also that "Orie might captain the side which is a poor call for he will be a liability in the engine room".

Snapster you say also that "Orie might captain the side which is a poor call for he will be a liability in the engine room". Does he also play in the backline so much as wee victor?

I do laugh when you tie yourself up in knotts like this and dont even realise it.

Beeno

I have a problem here and have my own reservations.   According to the avialable stats Ori is 197 cm tall and weigh in at 102 kgs.   That is more like the weight we expect from a loosie - rather than a lock.   His picture I could find on the internet also indicates a very slim player with very little arm muscles.   Not a good starting point for a lock on the relevant high level.

I could not find any stats on Jacques Du Plessis - so Saffex if you can help - please let us know.

Beenkop we know you are a little obsessed with Matfield being 106kg and are the only idiot who believes he was that light. Only a complete idiot would believe that an international lock playing in todays environment would weight less than Frans Steyn.

It does not take a genius to work out that Matfield built up to about 115kg by the time he retired, so comparing him with Orie is laughable.

Mike, Jacques du Plessis is 2.01m and 118kg, similar player to Steph du Toit in that he is a lock who has the skills to play 7.

The other lock in the squad is Dennis Visser who is 1.98m and 118kg.

Orie is a lightweight who is good in the line-outs and should be playing 7

Draad the only question is did victor ask ou snapster what his best playing weight was as snapster obviously knows something like that far better than ou victor! Bwahahahahhaha

One has to love that - "Beenkop we know you are a little obsessed with Matfield being 106kg and are the only idiot who believes he was that light. It does not take a genius to work out that Matfield built up to about 115kg by the time he retired, so comparing him with Orie is laughable.

Snapsters whole bubble re wee victor was based on victor being 115 kg. But wee victor never looked 115 kg and 'played lock" exactly as a 106 kg lightweight would - out in the backline. Hahahahhahahaha all so obvious but so deluded was snapst r he couldnt see the wood from the trees. Hilarious stuff. .

Now we can have to look forward to how ou snapster denies that victor knows his own weight. Sidesplitting stuff from snapster. All we need in addition is wee rooitwit supporting his buddy - what a servile gimp he is - to complete the farce!

Draad please convey my thanks to Stu.

Oh my aching sides!

Why did snapster make such a silly error is the question. Well its partly because a small guy of 5.10 would think victor big. A bigger guy of 6 foot probably wouldnt.

The rest put down to obstinate pride oblivious to evidence.

I can only imagine how embarrased certain bulle herders I know must be that once again Beeno is proven correct. Once again I say! Hahahahhaha

The abs loved victor what terrifies them is two locks like Bakkies or two locks like Etzebeth.Bakkies and Etzebeth would have been an all time great lock combo. Now all we need to do is find Etzebeth a worthy lock partner and there ar ea number of very exciting prospects emmerging.

End of story. No more show pony "locks" of 106 kg!!!!!!!! How daft can you get.

Its bullshit because it does not accord with your delusional views.

Snapster as a lawyer you need to provide better evidence than that. eh=gpoor ou victor i sunawareof his weight and the ghost writer mad eit all up. Or you could say ou victor is currently in an asylum having lost his marbles just like i did! Hahahhahahahahaha

Remember snapster victor said on Twitter his inormalweight was 107 kg. Then we have him a few months after retirement being to light to play as he weighd 102 kg. Then we have the bulle website, SA Rugby. net etc  the TV weight given all at 107/108 kg.

Get a grip snapster!  Just admit Beeno was once again correct and you, dispite all the evidence, insisted on being WRONG. Hahahahhahahahahaha what is it you solicit? Bwahahahahahaha

Anyhow snapster I do hope having got you right we will hear no more nonsense from you on this subject.

Beeno ever the optimist!

I have said this subject as but for this qualification we would hear no more from snapster and miss moments like these.

Saf, if you look closely, you will see that it's a quote from Victor's book:"Victor : My Journey". Stu is reading it and posted it on the "other side" to settle the argument. You and Beeno has been on about this for years now. He was not involved in the argument, so I am quite prepared to take his word on it. If you don't want to, buy the book and see for yourself.

That does not take away anything from what he has achieved as a player.

PS: Victor has a funny build. His nick in the team was Kiewiet, due to his rather thin legs (same reason why Fourie was called: "Mossie"). That is why he weighs a bit less than normal locks. He is however very big and strong in his upper body.

Just a short story about Schwarzenegger,   I have a friend in Pretoria whose father was a policeman in the same police office in Graz where Arnold's father served as a policeman.   They went to school together and was apparently quite good friends.

When Arnold came to SA shortly after he became Mr Universe - my friend ask me to drive him to Johannesburg for a meeting with Arnold and I met him there as a result.   He was very friendly and very intelligent.   I was most impressed with him as a person.
