  • Cape Town - South Africans Bakkies Botha and Danie Gerber have been included in a French newspaper's all-time rugby World XV.

Midi Olympique included the two Springbok legends at a glamour evening at the Pavillon Gabriel in Paris on Monday night.

The so-called "Legends XV" was picked for the 60th commemoration of the Rugby Oscars. The team was picked by French journalists and rugby enthusiasts.

In all, five All Blacks, five Frenchmen, three Welshmen and two South Africans made up the World XV.

    The all-time Legends XV:

15 Serge Blanco (France), 14 Gerald Davies (Wales), 13 Danie Gerber (South Africa), 12 Philippe Sella (France), 11 Jonah Lomu (New Zealand), 10 Dan Carter (New Zealand), 9 Gareth Edwards (Wales), 8 Michael Jones (New Zealand), 7 Richie McCaw (New Zealand), 6 Walter Spanghero (France), 5 Benoît Dauga (France), 4 Bakkies Botha (South Africa), 3 Graham Price (Wales) 2 Sean Fitzpatrick (New Zealand), 1 Jean Iraçabal (France)

A few too many Frogs.....and Bakkies is an honorary Frog these days.....but it's  interesting to get this slant on things. Frankly I'd rather have Bakkies than Flip Flop on Saturday.

only 5 kiwis, news paper must have a grudge against the All Blacks, :oP

surprised to see emile entmac not in the squad though, that fenchie could move like jagger, which in a rugby context isnt really a compliment i guess, but he was an awesome french fry,

Mozart

Nice reading - but those players are mainly from bygone eras - but for the much younger Carter and McCaw the latter  showing a serious decline in performance over the past two years and  the Club Player Botha - who really is untested in recent test rugby.

There are oodles of these so-called all-time selections doing the rounds - so this is just an opinion of a journalist with nothing better to write in this case again - and not of any real value as far as present rugby is concerned.

Interesting nonetheless to see the opinion of another journalist in this case - so thank you very much.

 Very subjective...
But in my opinion this is a load of horse shit.
Jones at 8? Come on. Zinnie was twice the player that Jones was.

GERALD DAVIES? OMG... surely we could all think of a few better left wings.
Benoît Dauga? LOLOLOL

I guess it depends who the selectors are.
If they were SAFFA selectors, I suppose we'd see Habana, Schalk and FDP in the mix.
In truth, I think picking the best fifteen of all time is a load of crock...
But hey... whatever makes headlines i guess.
