Jordie Barrett will probably have to wait a while to make good on his big mistake in Wellington against the Springboks.

The fullback's quick throw-in to Rieko Ioane, which went to ground and bounced perfectly for Willie le Roux to score in the famous South African victory, will be a difficult one to live down and while he won't play for the All Blacks against the Pumas on Sunday and is unlikely to play in the test the following week in Pretoria, the 21-year-old is still very much in the frame.

Unfortunately for Barrett, who scored an excellent try in combination with brother Beauden to open the scoring at Westpac Stadium, his learning curve in terms of game management came in the All Blacks' first defeat at home to the Boks since 2009.

Steve Hansen's determination to name a strong side for the next two weeks in preparation for the World Cup means Barrett will have to do the rest of his learning on the training paddock but such has been the young Hurricane's quick rise since he made his test debut last year (his first start was against the British & Irish Lions), that may not be a bad thing.

Ben Smith, clearly the All Blacks' top fullback, has been named in the No15 jersey for Sunday's test at Estadio Jose Amalfitani alongside wings Waisake Naholo and Rieko Ioane. If all three come through unscathed they are likely to start against the Boks at Loftus Versfeld too, with Damian McKenzie probably on the reserves bench after he left Buenos Aires due to a family bereavement.

McKenzie has become such an exciting player off the bench in the closing stages of tests he is beginning to carve out a niche for himself there and the 23-year-old Chiefs player could be a source of inspiration for Barrett.

McKenzie's habit of throwing intercepted passes, which received a training ground rebuke from Hansen as broadcast on Amazon Prime's documentary on the team this year, has been curtailed. He has learned to control his impetuosity and Barrett can too.

"He's 20 or 21, so he's not a very old rugby player but he's a very talented one," Hansen said of Barrett. "Sometimes you've just got to give them a bit of a go and it comes off. You've still got to get them to learn and sometimes you give them a go and it doesn't come off. That's when you put your arm around him and make sure he doesn't lose his confidence from the whole thing.

"Jordie is a project; he's got the potential to be very, very special. His game understanding for his age is understandably not that good at times. He can make the odd mistake but do some really great things too. It's a bit like when we first got Damian. He was all over the place. I described him quite often as a fly in a bottle. He's now settled down and has become very fluid in the game. He understands when to take risks versus the rewards that come with them.

"Jordie is still learning that. You don't want to knock the good stuff out of him, you just want him to learn when to push the button."

If only we had this honesty in our game. Our Damian blew every defensive situation and lost A wallaby test, he was lauded as the best centre in world rugby. This is another one of those reasons why New Zealand is ahead of South Africa. Another being how they rectify these shortcomings in their players.

Im surprised he wasnt pulled straight away .

If he had been allowed to take over the kicking he may well have earned instant redemption.

I saw the AB team against the Pumas for Saturday.   Hope the same team is retained for the Springbok game.

It is just a pity that De Allende would not play in the inside center position.   In the Blues game earlier this year De Allende outplayed Williams comprehensively and it was a major reason for the Stormers victory that day.

But then the dream-world of AO in which he used pipe-dreams as a basis for player evaluation will land us in serious trouble if Esterhuizen has to oppose Williams in the test next week.  Williams will no doubt wipe the floor with Esterhuizen.

By the way how did De Allende blew every defensive situation  when he made 11 tackles and missed 2 for a miss tackle ratio of 15,4% .  Better not be carried away by your fantasies and come down to earth for a change.

The media and everyone in general. I did go through past articles here too. Herr Drache in a rage about his greatness, so too Saffy Duck. So too everyone else. In fact, Kriel and Damian were officially branded as the best centre pairing in world rugby. It was madness. Nonu was supposedly dead and buried. He had the last laugh.

AO

What about Nonu being replaced early in the 2015 test and that the Mozart constant lies about the Barrett try in  the WC semi had been used by you - shame on you.

Nobody ever claimed De Allende was top be blamed for that try and when Mozart was questioned about it - he came up with a classic.  He,  you and Pakie are such good rugby analysts that you can find deficiencies that nobody else in the world has identified.

That  makes you three the self-proclaimed TOP RUGBY ANALYSTS in the world.   So perhaps we must accept the BS you spouted on the site as opposing it would impact negatively on your hate campaigns - so we must say - "We Bow to Your Superior BS - my lords.

To be self-appointed we' d have to have pronounced it as fact. We didn't. You did. Thanks for recognising our greatness though.

Secondly, it was plain as day who was to blame. That topic was one of many which ended in a definite defeat for you.

Liarmike you were outed on the Barrett try.....Pakie showed all the images. All the posters except Bloo agreed he was hopelessly out of position....agreed he never closed with Nonu.....agreed he only made contact after the pass was made.......agreed those were the reasons the winning try was scored. Stop lying man.

Damian is a lazy defender. Check out Ioane's try in the last test starting at 37:45 and watch Damian. He is not committed to any defender as the pass goes from the ruck clearly out to Crotty, but Damian still lazily jogs into Cane in front of him instead of immediately racing wide to cover.

Even Etzebeth, starting off defending on Damian's inside, gets farther across in cover and keeps chasing even though he has no hope. Damian never so much as makes an effort to get across.

He might not have made it anyway, but it would have been nice to see some kind of commitment to the cause and faster reactions to how the situation was evolving.

Damian is passive. Lambie was another passive type, so too Pienaar. We've never been successful with passive players. Look at Jean, Fourie, Du Preez, Habana, Frans, Dyantyi, Faf, Pollard, Butch et al... proactive competitors. I've seen games where Damian waltzes out of alignment. He ball watches and loses focus. How does a player end up with his back turned to Kuridrani? Ridiculous.

This will inevitably be called hate. Whether I hate Damian, love him, or feel indifferent, the events I have stated still happened. My emotional responses to those events, or the acceptance of those emotions, doesn't make it any less real. I wish some people would get that.

The great and top rugby analysts in the world have spoken - who are us mortals not to accept their BS.

By the way the backline player with the highest number of tackles in tests this year is a lazy defender?    How is that possible?

We will just have to accept whatever our learned world experts tell us - am not sure whether it is not another load of BS.

Come now - I in April said that I will not be happy if De Allende is in the Springbok squad and I gave valid reasons for that.   Since then our world experts have come up with strings of total make- believe and made-up BS without any real proof of what they said,   When that  type of thing I would always defend the player concerned even though I am fact-wise unhappy of aspects of his performance.   I do not accept that any player should be subjected to malicious lies and misrepresentations like happemned in the case of De Allende and a string other players Mozart and co  hates.

Lies? Misrepresentations? Watch the footage and tell me which part of it I made up. Here are some easy checkpoints:

1. not committed to any defender as the pass goes out
2. jogs into Cane
3. Etzebeth starts off defending on DA's inside
4. Etzebeth gets further across in cover
5. DA never makes an effort to get across

Which point is false? Go.

One example and obviously a misrepresentation landed Pakie in the sh!t again.   Please explain how you can discard one instance and forget about the 37 others.   Wake up - fool - Mozart will drag you down to his low level soon enough if you are not careful.

Allende has done nothing positive for the Boks in 30 plus tests. Is that going to change now that he's almost 27. Not likely.....a cul de sac.

This is desperate stuff from Clever Mike. It was cruel of Pakie to leave you hanging so perilously on the edge of a cliff. Best not be picking another fight, when you can't finish the first one!

Old man Kurz Trinkhalm, what a laugh!

It would be a shame if the wayward pass was the single reason for them dropping him.

The Abs, and Kiwi teams in general take chances but back their skill and support to pull of those chances. Its partly why they are the force that they are.

Granted that in this instance it went horribly wrong.

However, what type of message does dropping him now send?

I'm sure its about more than jsut the pass. At least i hope so for their sake.

@ Beeno

They are still arguing about Allende and Kriel.

I remain firm in the belief that Kwagga should be playing at inside. Not only will he have exponentially more gainline success than any other available 12 but being a loosie, he will help slow their ball down and also make a few nice ground steals. He is also smarter than anyone other 12 candidate. One struggles to see the down side.

Would love to see a sevens game between 7 x Allende and 7 x Kwagga. Cricket score incoming haha.

Dayimani at +100kg and 10.4s/100m might make a wonderful outside parter for Kwagga too. Can you think of a bette/faster player with a more deadly/easy step than Dayimani to pay off your shoulder. I can't.

I just wish there was a spot for Combrink in the team. I feel so dam sorry for the guy. He is an obvious test level player but jus t keeps getting shafted. Same goes for Travis Ismael. At least RG Snyman is finally showing that he belongs there.

Haha at least you guys have contributed in as far as Kitshoff and PSDT goes haha
