According to some stats anyway. His Bledisloe performance has him notch up some interesting records, among them is his 50 tests to 25 tries which is twice as quick as Carter's 100 tests. I'm not sure how the All Black fand feel, but I definitely disagree. Carter was the complete 10, who dominated in an er that was laden with star players. The names I could list: Larkham, Gregan, Latham, Mortlock, Jean, Fourie, Habana, Butch, Du Preez et al. Those games were far more competitive. Barrett, though a good player, is excelling against teams at a low ebb and plays in an era of Super rugby which promotes one dimension running. So, others may disagree with me, but I'd rank Carter in a league of his own.

It'll be interesting to see how Barrett and Sanchez match up. I rate Sanchez as the better general. He is also fast on his feet as he is making the right decisions. He is surrounded by fleet footed players.

Organhuffer Bar rat runs with the ball better than Carter but in other respects Carter was better. A great general in the Naas Botha mould.

There was a time when many kbbs here were whinging about how hard Bissie tackled Carter and refused to admit that Bissie had effected a fair tackle. Beeno of course tried to put them on the right path but that served only to increase the levels of squealing!!!

it was Carter who put these wimpering souls right and said it was indeed a fair tackle. Carter took it on the chin unlike his wimpering countrymen!

Nz have two oaks they can be proud of. Justin Marshall and Carter.

Take it from B eeno!

Nope he has a way to go to kiss the feet of Dan but he is still one of the greats.

Another 3-5  years before we can seriously debate between the two

No doubt Barrett is an outstanding flyhalf, but I shall wait for the day when his forwards are not in a dominating position and only then one can make a final evaluation.

It is so much easier for a flyhalf to appear dominant when he receives the ball going forward.

Don't know any beenshit McCaw old crust fan but do know a guy widely called Mc Cheat McCaw who was very over rated. Got away with murder via bent refs. You know the guy who was involved with that British Madam!

Old Crust fan were you posting here when the Bissie incident happened?

Barett is getting better all the time, just check out how much more territory he chews off when kicking for touch now compared to when he first started.Plus his goal kicking is improving but I guess if you just run them all under the posts yourself  it doesnt matter.

Heaps of Irish fans think their boy is better but buggered if I can see it .Maybe hes better at finding pots of gold under wee folks butts or something.

Carter is better at 10 man rugby in a tight test match dominated by defence and tactical kicking but Barrat is better at 15 man rugby.
The AllBlacks do not get tested anymore at 10 man rugby because they rely on their counter attack and broken play to convert into points.

Carter was a very cool customer that's for sure. Players in the opposite team seemed to be in slow motion when he was at the top of his game.
Shame old bizzie went bonkers after he made a decent tackle. He went around stomping on his own players chests and elbowing players in the throat. He was in serious need of counselling poor wee lad.

Of course Beeno is focused on a side-show & doesn't recall that the scoreboard matters. One has to smile when we think back to all the ranting and raving about how the AB tight 5 is pap and the Boks are more physical, etc. ABs rack up the points, smile as they shake hands at the end of the game and give a nod to the scoreboard.

Most All Black fans started crying after the Bismaark incident, even Dan Carters brother said that bad Bismaark tried to hurt him.
Only weeks afterwards after multiple camera angles, did the frenzy settle down- when fans started to admit it was a rugby game and not a ballerina tournament.
Even some of the New Zealand Superrugby teams claim that they were not allowed to tackle Dan Carter without the Crusaders fans wailing....

Carter was definitely a sensitive issue. I recall in 2008 Henry bemoaned Butch and Januarie hounding Carter, exclaiming that we don't need to see that in the game. It's it the first time he said something bizarre, in the same season he claimed Frans could kick far only because of special tech in his boots. Henry clearly a very paranoid man. A nice tinfoil wig to cover that dome .

That said, I don't recall every All Black fan lambasting Bissie, though there were some. I don't have a reason to believe it was the majority, or anything close. Now, the second yellow, that was an entirely different matter.

This thread is one of the most useless in the history of this Board - it really is not worth commenting on.   Stats must be seen as a contributing factor in determining player evaluation - bt then one has to look at the full scenario and not select a component of stats o try and discuss issues.   Funny - but the starter of the thread argued against stats usage in evaluation of players - but then uses the Mozart technique of using selective stats.  LMAO

Fact is Carter was the best flyhalf in the history of the game of rugby and comparing a present player with him is a joke.

Clever Mike, you are always making a fool of yourself. There are people now claiming that Barrett is statically better than Carter. There have been a few articles on this. I was responding to the topic. You never stop falling on your face. I hope you never stop.

AO

Your response t what I wrote is a joke I bad taste.   First issue is that you use selective stats without even knowing how to look at player performance as a whole.   Secondly you made wild statements on using of stats as a vehicle for player evaluation and really made some real BS assertions to the affect that I only use stats - nothing else.

There is a big difference between what was happening and what you claim was the case.

My problem with this thread is that you use selective stats - not the full stats in all aspects of the game and then ask a totally delusive question about the selection of the NZ flyhalf.  This was followed by BS from your comrade in arms Mozart unde other threads on the same issue  and that makes it even funnier. LMAO    .

...Carter read the game like a boss, whereas with Barret's it's his ubiquitous nature is more his strength... seemingly able to be in more than one place at a time - you could almost swear he had a twin....one minute he's busting up the centres , next minute he's scrambling defensively as a fullback covering for Jordie, then he's back as first reciever -  he pops up all over the place which makes him a more unorthodox 10... it's like he's reinventing the role of a 10 .

So he's not a 10 in the traditional sense which makes it easier to bring another 10 in which Hansen will probably do next against Argentina and slot Barret in elsewhere...His licence to roam puts him in his element .. i.e air...he's an enigma, probably the most elusive player in world rugby...nowhere near Carter's legend status yet though but Barret has set a couple of records in that last game.

For me it's all about his speed. That's probably the biggest reason why he pops up everywhere. Can it last? What kind of player can he be without his speed? Not that I'm saying it's an insignificant ability, but I think it factors into the comparison with Carter. When Carter was better managed defensively, he was still irrepressible as he was a tremendous tactician. He directed play, and it was very noticeable when he was absent. In those games the All Black attack was not as imposing and efficient.

I salivate at the idea of playing Du Preez and Carter together. What a nightmare that would have been. Two of the best in their position, brilliant and intuitive readers of the game.

In a tough test, I don't regard Barrett as highly. Sort of how I saw Cullen: A full throttle runner that was devastating in the right context.

Why by 2015? Are you making a thinly veiled snipe at Meyer again? Du Preez was one of the best Boks in 2015. Easily. But do let me guess, he was unfit and flabby from playing in Japan. Are you really this predictable?

Bharett is maybe the best runner since Christian Cullen. His step is less noticeable, but he just seems to ghost his way through tackle s with suttle inside outs

I wouldn't be surprised if Barrett ends up playing some full back, for sure they want him on the field but if  Mo'unga develops his potential Hansen may want both of them on the field.

It's an irrational and unfair comparison based on individual opinion...they were/are both outstanding in different ways...depends on the team and game of the day. What's good for the goose is not necessary good for the gander.

The problem with opinions are that we all perceive things differently...some see things in a broader context, others in a more closer and analytical way. Neither is right and the truth often lies in between somewhere...a more balanced outlook.

That is reason we argue and debate and cannot agree...the truth is nobody is always right and absolute...some are egotists and believe they are always right, others are more mature and street wise and give room for other perceptions, others have grown so set in their ways that they are blind to what others perceive. The truth is nobody, certainly here is an expert in judgement...if you think so you are deluded.

Pocock to start then Hooper in at the 50-60 or even 79 minute mark !

But at 5 million I suppose they want their monies worth eh ?
