After Morne missed touch, the 14 weary Boks finally broke. Morne rushed across to make the crucial tackle on Horne that could have saved his blushes. But as is mostly the case, he over committed and Horne stepped inside Steyn into the gap between him and the trailing Marcel.

If Morne had watched Barrett vs Folau two weeks before, he would have seen the AB slow down, giving only the outside to Folau. It was a brilliant open field tackle. To be fair Barrett is faster than most wings, so conceding the outside is less scary. But Morne clearly overcommitted as players almost inevitably do in covering.

Barrett's tackle was a masterpiece of cover defending.

Morne can't tackle missing 7 in that test is a disgrace.
The way you go on about Barrett one would swear he never misses tackles

Ag foeitog - the one-incident swindle again.  Barrett in Super 15 had a very iffy defensive record and missed a lot of tackles he should have made.
My the big talk about this missed tackle on Horne - Morne missed 46% of attempted tackles last week - so what makes this one so important?

Dave
I used the ESPN stats according to which Morne made 8 tackles and missed 7.

It was an exceptional tackle. One on one in the open field against one of the most powerful steppers in the game. I didn't think he had a chance.
Generally, my opinion is the smaller quick rugby players don't get a fair shake in the missed tackle category simply because their quickness and speed puts them in a position to make a possible tackle on an opponent where a slower player wouldn't even have a chance and instead concedes space or a linebreak. Unfortunately that position is often a compromised one (full stretch, at speed, finger tips) that is more susceptible to being beaten.
Those smaller quick rugby player may miss a higher percentage of tackles than the average player but their speed also gives them the ability to cover defend like Barrett did here, take away attacking space and rally to the ruck.
Takes all types though in a rugby team, because you need those big boys especially when defending your line

Matey very often those tackles by aggressive defenders are missed on kick chase and kick off situations. It's not the same thing as a centre missing his man in a structured defensive line. The stats are but a guide.

Remember this tackle? Manu Tuilagi of England is caught in a try saving tackle by Ben Smith...

Not cool JW - that one still hurts.
Best part of that clip is seeing Owens bent over, exhausted. Sure sign of a great game when these refs are tuckered out.

The refs train hard to be in top shape for games but they struggle to keep up with the fast pace the ABs.
Poor old Owens, was it this game he pulled a muscle & had to leave the game? There was one such game. Another tactic of the ABs - all part of the conspiracy
Where is Beeno anyway? lol

Thanks JW, it was fun watching Willie and Folau. Willie made the more honest effort, but he needed three more inches of space. Great presence of mind from Barrett to keep depressing the grounded leg vs trying to stop his grounded momentum.

Too many last gasp defenders just give up too easily ,look at Reid vs ireland .The try was scored but he made the kick that much harder and it was the difference in the end.

More proof I handled the Morne mistake absolutely down the middle.....I started a string to discuss the consequences. And there are responses which make total sense of my initial posting Apologize Potty Mouth.

So the poor line kick got a partial mention - no mention of the fact that the kick was a penalty kick and a relieving one as well.  There is no mention of the fact that Habana was off the field as a result of a yellow card and his return would have strengthen  the defense should the kick have found touch.   That is the crux of  what I said - hide the real facts otherwise Morne Steyn would look too bad.

That type of thing is to be compared to the lies you come up with when you can get at your per hate players.  Then you invent things to make them look bad.

It was posted on September 10 ....the match was on September 6. No need to revisit all the details, this was an analysis of tackling after the kick...but corroborates again my scrupulously honest treatment of the incident. And all the responses are right in line with the thread....so no whiff of tampering. Schplottt Potty Mouth....your low brow, jealous nature gets you in trouble all the time. Enjoy the evening....LMAOFY&Y!

This  is  just another example of  a typical match distortion by you and the cover-up is typical of your normal contributions on site.   You  actually tried often enough to promote Morne  sub sequently  and find often mythical reasons to attack Lambie,  Goosen  and many  other players for much less  mistakes than that made by Morne – even  to the extent that you invented lies to do so,

Anyway – ever since you started with the personal  pervert attacks on me purely because I preferred younger players to the over-the-hill players you supported and without any proof whatsoever,  I have struggled to find expressions describing you as the real low life thing you are,   It is difficult to find such  descriptions to match your really despicable character,

If Barrett was on your team you may well have won another RWC.

Wardad

To make a difference to the outcome of the RWC semi, Barrett would have to be used as a proper flyhalf and not Burger as stand-in flyhalf with Barrett's role being restricted to do some line and goal kicking.   .

The so-called game plan of Meyer for the RWC was such that the flyhalf just became a tackling dummy - nothing else.

Even the best ever flyhalf in the world could not play a game where backline values were deliberately reduced to zero as far as attacking play is concerned.

Probably would need the right conditions to flourish but then again one of those thread-the-needle runs from Barrett and who knows ?
