the performance of the game against the ABs we have to honestly question whether the Boks would have beaten the great AB sides of the past so as to assess whether the Boks have made any improvement. My answer is a firm no. The Boks played a weak Welsh side, an uncharacteristic poor AB side given the phenomenal history of AB sides and won by scoring two opportunist tries. Sure they did some good things in defence, won the aerial battle and deflated the ABs further with turn over ball at the rucks. But in all honesty they did nothing new, they just did what they always do but they it consistently well. The two tries weren't scored off set piece movement through the hands if we take the Wallaby game as an example. They were individual opportunist tries from broken play. Nothing new has been added to their armory and there's no compelling evidence to suggest that they've advanced their backline play.
As someone commented......the Boks should have put 40 points on a weak AB side. Don't believe me? ....well then just reverse sides by imagining a good AB side of the past playing a similar weak side as the ABs were on saturday past.
