Beast returning home 12 November 2012, 12:01

Springbok prop Tendai ‘Beast’ Mtawarira will return to South Africa on Monday following a decision that it would be in the player’s best interests not to continue with the tour.

This follows Mtawarira’s withdrawal from last Saturday’s test against Ireland as a precautionary measure, after he had a recurrence of mild heart palpitations that morning.

“We’ve consulted with Beast and his cardiologist in Durban and although it’s safe for him to play, we decided it would be best for him to return home and rest,” said Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer.

“The player’s welfare is the most important consideration at this stage.”

Mtawarira, who travelled with the rest of the squad to Edinburgh on Sunday, had an irregular heart rhythm, according to Springbok team doctor Craig Roberts. The condition is hereditary.

“He has had this several times before and it’s always been managed accordingly,” said Roberts.

“This condition is not life threatening, but needs to be managed properly which is why we thought it would be in Beast’s best interest to return to South Africa.

“He needs to have a repeat of the minor procedure he had in Cape Town earlier this year and it’s important to notice that he is not at risk by playing with it, and his career is not in jeopardy.”

A decision on a replacement for Mtawarira will be taken in due course.

I see Malherbe got the call to replace Beast, IMO that call should have been made to JC Janse van Rensburg

Agree Bok-Bef$k

Malherbe has not been good in the currie cup, never mind springbok duty. OH well.

The point is Jannie has picked up an ankle injury so that is why Malherbe has been called up. Meyer does know the difference between a loosehead and tighhead oaks so please give him some credit.

What foul luck this is. Our front row all gone Beast, Bissie and possibly Jannie. Bekker out as well!! 4 of your 5 tight forwards. Anyhow creates chance for other players to grow at internartioanl level. I suppose Cillers will start if Jannie is out. Hopefully Jannie wil lbe back soonest.

It would be interesting if Malherbe gets on the filed to see just how close he is to international level.  I think he could just about cope off the Bench?

Please can we be spared another disgraceful performance by CJ van der Linde,  Use any means possible to achieve that one.  The slob is unfit and useless - any player will be better than him+.

Beeno1, the kid has potential, but he is not ready yet.He got destroyed in the currie cup.

Jc janse van resnburg looked rather good when he got moved to tighthead against WP in the second game.

Jacobie adriaanse is also a very good scrummaging tighthead.

I know this is a long shot, but BJ Botha is playing in the NH. Surely he can slot in
