Well going into it people were picking Reki Ioane to win world player of the year. But in the end World Rugby went for Beuadan. Probably not the year he had last year. But Barrett has been sublime at times this year. And I Think they recognised that.
Not sure he deserved it myself, thought he has been nowhere near the player he was last year especially on the EOYT. Our backline has been below par and some (not all) blame lies at his feet.
Not exactly. Lima was at ten a few games back and our backline was woeful. He lacked distribution and awareness. Beudan comes back and out backline starts functioning again. SO not sure I agree with that. You have to look at the players outside him too. They contributed just as much. While he did not have the year he had last year. He is still by far the best ten in the world atm. And it probably shows, even though not at his best, still by far the best.
I cant comment on who the best rugby player is as I dont follow all the other teams but to me the player of the year has to be the best all round player with consistant form.
Beauden is not that, great player yes but his in play kicking has been sub par and he has thrown some terrible passes, his goal kicking was too erratic earlier this year but he has sorted that out on the EOYT. He can still make that magic play but has made too many mistakes for me to be player of the year this year
I am not saying that our back line play is his fault but he is not helping and pointing out that he is better than Sopoanga doesn't mean he is playing 100% rugby it just means he is a better option
I share the general sentiment. BB is a great player, but he wasn't all there this season. I would have given it to Riekie.
Look I would of too. But then I look at moments where Beudan had to stand up. Final moments in the Bledsloe in Dunedin. His outstanding performance in Albany againgst the boks. Again in Newlands. He was great again againgst Wales. He wasen't sublime like last year. Being a game breaker. But I Thought he developed his game this year.
