Bent Read has back problems! Well we wish him and wee Dan Coles a speedy recovery!

All Blacks captain Kieran Read is to have back surgery this weekend and will miss the early rounds of next year's Super Rugby competition.

Read had an injury-plagued 2017 due to thumb and wrist issues and was ruled out of the team's final test against Wales last month with a hip flexor problem. (Beeno of course noted that Read wasn't looking good at all!)

Super Rugby champions Canterbury said Read had suffered a prolapsed disc while on duty with the All Blacks and would be out of action for up to four months, ruling him out of the competition until about round nine in mid-April.

"Head in for surgery on a disc in my back on Saturday which I injured at the end of the season," Read wrote on his Facebook page. "Hopefully I don't miss too much of the start of the @superrugby season."

Read joins hooker Dane Coles as long-term injury concerns for the All Blacks. The Wellington Hurricanes captain ruptured knee ligaments against France and is not due back for six months.

The Crusaders open their title defence against the Waikato Chiefs on February 24 in Christchurch

I hate back injuries more than knee injuries. Really hard to get back again without more problems down the line

Oh and Beeni, Read is the golden standard 8 man of all times! Where is Sore.. I mean Thor??? ;)

Luckily I've never suffered with either.

Mine is the left shoulder and that regained a lot of it's strength with weight training.

...Crusaders have three of there loosies in doubt for the beginning of 2018, with Sanders out for four months and Taufua has a broken arm ....to help out they have called up former AB Jarrad Hoeata is the latest..

Crusties are probably favourites for next season but injuries is one thing that could derail any team's chances of going back to back... they do have great depth though..

Using weights the wrong way can totally compound the problem. Working your way up to heavier loads with the correct technique can sort issues out though.

Been using a punching bag for cardio the last twelve months because i hate running for running sake. Put on some thrash metal and pretend the bag is Zuma. Best cardio ever.

One of the good thing about young people these days seems to be that they're go to the gym more often...even though it's really for the wrong reasons a lot of the time.

All you old codgers on here...20 mins four times a week. Gotta look after the old ticker

I'm sure Mike is fine though because every time he comes on here his heart rate is raised by at least a hundred % thanks to Moz.

Indeed, Plum.

Working your way up, with the right technique, is the only sure way of improvement. Slow and sure. Takes time.

Boxing bag? You sound frustrated. LOL!!

As I'm sure you know, a few rounds of 3 minutes each against the bag will have you gasping for breath in no time. I hope you've put a few good punching combination together. Killing two birds with one stone - good cardio and a well practiced strategy if ever you needed to defend your girl. Especially in this country.

Aaah!! Mozart seems to enjoy roughing up his fellow posters. Makes me feel better to know that I'm not the only one he has a go at.

@Dragon

The combos are easy. It's having the footwork match what the hands are doing that I struggled with at the start. Strangely I learnt the most about punching from taekwondo. Keeping straight lines, making sure your weight transfers the instant your elbow and shoulder are aligned. Surprised myself with how much power I could get behind a jab once things started falling in place.

Moz thinks you're someone else. Maybe you are, who knows? Anyway he's one of a good few here who makes pertinent points and ads to debates. Despite what some say, he'll actually extrapolate on a point of view, even if he doesn't agree with it. Lots of people are not able to do that due to having too much brain mass on the caveman side and it frightens them when others display such a seemingly mysterious ability :)

Anyway welcome bro. And if you are Rooi, then welcome back haha

Wee bent read was gobbled up by Thor. Bent read does occasionally do some flashy stuff on the wing with an open line in front of him. However these days he has looked liked a spent force.

Best combo is tennis and weight training. Take it fr om Beeno!

Ja Beeno. I'll chase a ball until I collapse but don't ask me to go jogging. I don't give rats testicle if I'll feel amazing after the first 2km.

Problem is, weights and then off to tennis/soccer takes a chunk out of one's time. Hence I settled o n the donder-sak.

@Plum - you sound as though you've put a bit of time and thought into getting your punch right.

You are so right about the transfer of your body weight and getting the timing right. Twisting your hip helps a great deal with the weight transfer while rotating your shoulder and making sure you hit a few inches past or through the target. That's bound to knock somebody's teeth down his throat. I usually like to target the Adams Apple. It's a one punch finisher if you get it right .

Actually, you sound like a nasty piece of work.

Oh and no I am not Rooi, nor am I Urinal or Jalapeno Pepper or even Rooinek and definitely not rooitwit.

I am just Dragon.

@Plum - What's the point of learning how to punch if all you're going use it for is to push and shove each other around like school kids on the playground?

Perhaps it's best you use the bag only as a cardio workout. At least that way you'll be the fitter "pusher and shover" on the playground.  LOL!!

Just be aware of the incoming head butt. He may not have the same good intentions as you.

@Wardad - correct me if I'm wrong but aren't sabbaticals usually given to those players who have entered the twilight years of their career? My point is that it's something to try and preserve them for one last hooraah before sent out to pasture.

Kieran Read turned 32 in October. He'll be in his mid thirties come the WC in 2019. That's a little past his best.

Perhaps it's time to look for his replacement. Any idea who that might be?

@Dragon

A punch up is one thing. Aiming at the throat and the possible consequences of successfully landing a shot there is a whole other kettle of fish.

Doing time for manslaughter ain't on my bucket list.

Indeed, the bag is for cardio. Been a while since I had/wanted to prove that I was the toughest in the room.

Well the consequences of the throat punch would depend on the circumstances surrounding said punch.. . personally I prefer the PK, much less chance of serious repercussions...but then again, I'm not the violent type. Rather buy someone a beer than handing out a PK.

Dr Win's and Beeno's methods of unravelling pesky invaders like moles, trolls and even dragons, especially Welsh ones are totally inadequate...Sir Sebastien's (related to George) are the only way.

Moles are fair game. Mostly they have run their course in their last identity, lost too many battles, been humiliated too many times......so they choose a fresh start. But the old attributes that tripped them up surface again. There are a few exceptions who entertain....like Jimi Hendrix. Dragon is more of a plodder.

So is this where I come in?

You guys are discussing me as though I weren't in the room. That's rude! Didn't your mommy tell you not to do that?

@ DbDraad - no offense meant but is English your first language? It's either that or you missed my earlier post.

@ SebastienChabal - couldn't you find a more impressive dragon? That one will just not do. Try Kalameet or Smaug. Thanks.

@ Beeno1 - a mole? You have obviously seen too many James Bond movies. Rather stick to emoticons and Mr Bean avatar pics. It's a far better fit that the pretense of intellect.

@Mozart - a "plodder"? Exactly what does that mean? Is this another attempt at sounding clever? You were so sure that I was Urinal. You don't sound so sure of yourself anymore. You speak with such authority. Much like you did when you selected Vunipola out of position. Do you suffer from delusions of grandeur?

Welcome back Card....and you are correct that English is not my first language and I might have missed a previous post of yours. In one of my previous posts I mentioned that I don't really care if you are a previous poster under a new nick or not. Your posting style has a familiar ring to it. There is a slight chance that it's coincidental, but it's unlikely.  I'm just curious and really don't mean to be rude, so please indicate when you find some questions offensive...although you come across as confident enough without a thin skin.

Card?

Exactly how many "moles" have infiltrated this board? And why would they do that if all they needed was to join up and become a part of the community? Are all new comers subjected to your "mole" scrutiny or is it just me, Urinal, Rooitwit and Card?

You guys sure are paranoid.

My experience so far is :-

Plum - a wannabe tough guy but too much of a drama queen to see his dream realized. He has great punching power but prefers to push and shove. Seems easily offended.

DbDraad  - not sure what to make of him. Sounds like a decent kind of guys but easily led by the nose. Mozart has a lot of influence over him. Oh and English isn't his first language.

Beeno1 - sounds like a heavy pot smoker. Perhaps that's why he refers to me as "drug-on". He definitely has a few loose screws rolling around.

Mozart - he has convinced himself of his superiority. His ignorance of rugby hasn't dampened his enthusiasm. He speaks with great authority and posts regularly (by the looks of his posts count) but one can only wonder how many of them actually make sense.

What a strange rugby site. Not sure what to make of it.

Dragon, what rugby forum/sites did you post on prior to this???...you seem too cheeky and familiar and street wise for a novice poster...granted this forum has it's oddities but we are generally very experienced and battle-scarred from moles and misrepresentations but have an interesting assortment of members...some of which change their identities more than a chameleon changes it's colours.

Red stands for danger here and forked tongues is a common feature amongst some of our members...some of which have been awol for a month or two but probably will be back soon when the withdrawal symptons set in.
